Toei is responsible for the animation but the author of the manga is Eiichiro Oda. Oda is one of the best world builders ever, he is up there with Tolkien (Lord of the Rings series). Oda made One Piece so intricate that small details are hints to big answers that will come into play. The story revolves around the Strawhat crew but the politics, and world changes without them being involved directly because other crews and individuals also play a big role in the story. I have read books, comics, and manga but out of all of them I can say with honesty that One Piece is a rarity among most of it. Edit: is this better?

Haha I think that the craziest part about Oda is how much he manages to pull off on accident or by coincidence. Oda’s favorite character is Buggy the clown, and that kind of speaks for itself 😂

I tell this again and again: One Piece has layers of every kind and teaches the reader/viewer how the real world is in a comical manner. It looks goofy at first but shows the dark shadows humans have. This work is fictional but could replace courses/classes like social studies and world history in high school. Typical topics are rascism, discrimination and genocide, corruption, child and animal abuse. This series is deeply political and historically correct if you see its origins in the real world. Typically pirates are evil and have to take responsebility for their actions. This series has evil pirates and other villains as well. But the main villains are the putative heroes. The twisted logic of the world government and their navy alias marine. In the very early episodes is shown how corrupt the navy can be. And Oda mastered to impact his world with real people and locations like famous musicans and actors as well as cities having their own identities but a twist for this world. A country of origins in Egypt and the Middle East with a Las Vegas in it or Venice, Italy as one huge fountain island. And of cause the masses of characters. I don't know how many of them are there right now but a few years ago were over 800 named and developted characters listed. And I belive that also the characters passed the 1000 mark. At least with a name and mostly more than that.
@fernandaoXD2 жыл бұрын
Last time i saw it was close to 1200 named characters. One of the things that impress me the most about One piece is how fucking many charismatic characters it has. Some characters that appear for literally just 1-2 episodes have so much impact and are still remembered over a thousand episodes later.

Definitely take your time. It has a slow start, but it is because Oda leaves really subtle details everywhere... and you don't notice them, because you have no idea where the story is heading... but once you get far enough, you will start noticing these details and when you look back, you will be amazed how much imporant stuff you've already seen. Oda is truly master at foreshadowing.

One Piece is packed with history. The world-building is insane! The character has so much depth to them. One Piece is so worth it. Even with the anime's many flaws, the pure storytelling makes up for it 10 times over.
@ellusiv5121 Жыл бұрын
This is what I love about One Piece. The world building is not just details about the environment, but it goes in depth with the verse's HISTORY. More anime needs to utilize that like there's a lot of interesting settings for anime but it doesn't evoke the same feeling as One Piece because it feels like only a few handful of characters were important to the history while every location the Strawhat visited is oozing with the trace of everyone who changed it and it gets more rewarding the more you learn about it. The only other anime that gave me similar feelings is Trigun Stampede and the Toaru verse.

I'm pretty sure the song your looking for is "Adimus" by Karl Jenkins. Fun fact, it's not a real language because he wanted to use vocals as an instrument but not let lyrics distract from the music so he invented something that sounds like human speech but it just gibberish.

@matthewzeller50262 жыл бұрын
The animation isn't always as crisp as in the video for a few reasons. First it came out over 20 years ago so while I think it will looks good, it definitely has that older animation style at the start. The second reason is a lot of the clips were taken from the movies which obviously have a much higher budget to work with them the anime. That all being said, the animation really does pop off hard when it wants to, they'll often save up some of the budget for special moments and it's always so clean.
@animeabyss42542 жыл бұрын
The beginning of the anime may seem a little boring, meaning the first 20 episodes, because most of it is an introduction to the characters, so if you watch it, do not judge it from the beginning, as many do that
@fernandaoXD2 жыл бұрын
I think a good indicator if someone would enjoy One piece comes with only 4 episodes. If by episode 4 (when the luffy shanks story is told) you don't like the comedy and the characters at all than it's safe to say you won't enjoy the show. But if you like it even a little then you just need to endure some not so great episodes until episode 20.

ngl, you are right with having a lot of expectation of one piece it's an amazing story with a lot of things needed to be tell but do remember that it takes time to " install " all these plot and amazing things, in the beggining you will not see all these stuff you have to wait and see all the plot comming step by step, enjoy the enjoyable, light and simple interaction on the beggining and all the dark and heavy stuff will come to you one day little by little until you find out what you are seeing right now is a masterpiece.
@katanime6192 жыл бұрын
Tbh, one piece is one of the anime/manga that has a dark story. The anime/manga style makes it less dark. From what happened to people on gray terminal, dressrosa, punk hazard, what happened to zeff and big mom, etc. If they took the style of aot, this would be one of the darkest story. But this style also gives them advantage. They could easily changed from tragic to humour, thus makes no limitations for them.

The world building, the story, the foreshadowing, the characters, the thousands of side characters that we have all come to know and absolutely adore. Fuck man. Oda, you spoil us to much.

While Toei Animation has made a number of other shows, One Piece itself has a pretty distinct art style all its own, thanks to the manga artist/writer Eiichiro Oda. It may look goofy and cartoony, which does give it a lot of charm, but make no mistake that the story is VERY deep and serious in places and goes to some REALLY dark and tragic places narratively. I'm hard pressed to think of another piece of media that has gotten me to feel the sheer range of emotions that One Piece has. If will make you laugh, cry (yes, even you), cheer, gasp, and think a lot more than a goofy show about gimmicky pirates starring a boy made of rubber would lead you to believe.

Today is 25th anniversarie from the 1st manga chapter. Around 23 since the anime started. One Piece has had different drawing and animation styles, both in the anime and in the manga (although the anime ones are perhaps more noticeable). Still the type of author's designs are quite similar, but there are differences on the artstyle along the years

One of the darkest anime’s I’ve ever seen. With the greatest story I believe has ever been told. Haha whatever you think the story is, put that out of your mind. It’s so immersive with so many webs being weaved. Stuff that happened in episode 1 has implications in the 900s. And that happens constantly. Little things you see and forget comes back and you just sit there like “wtf!?!”

Many more people will probably say it, but I'll say it too: The thing about "Onbe Piece gets better at chapter X, you simpyl need to be patient until then" it's a pile of bullcrap. One Piece is good from the beginning, that's why it managed to become popular enough in the first time to avoid cancellation and reach the point it is in now. The thing is taht things get so big later on, and so much time has passed since people started following it week by week, that they forget the beginning, and when someone says taht they tried it and didn't like it, then they say to be patient and wait until chapter X because "That's where it gets good". And I have seen a lot of people try One Piece with the mentality of "Okey, teh start is going to be bad, but I need to push through", so they don't enjoy it. But at a later point of their lives they decide to give it anotehr try, simply trying to enjoy watching it for a while, and they ended falling in love with it. The mentaility that "It is boring at the beginning" is a great way to make people feel like it is boring at the beginning, even if otherwise they would ahve enjoyed it. So simply watch/read it slowly and at your rythm, enjoying what it presents to you. If you don't like it, then it isn't for you, it won't magically become a different story with a different way of doing things taht you'll like more. But if you enjoy it, then you'll continue enjoying one of the greatest stories ever told.
