Rolex fam boys always shows. Seamaster is miles better than the Submariner. It is so hard for critics to give unbiased criticism and give true credit when credit it's due and earned. I own both, and I love both, but this Seamaster is such a beauty up close and it wears small, it does not wear big. Will Omega ever beat Rolex's status? No, because Rolex has a such Name established Status that it will be close to impossible to beat. Rolex it's simply a status thing, period. Omega's movement it's a beast and the quality it's such as superb. Guys, trust me, go to the store and put this watch on your wrist, it is close to perfection. And yes, I still LOVE my Rolex :) ... But the Seamaster deserves it's credit, they did a Fantastic job here.

Both watches are equally capable, so one of the obvious advantages of owning an Omega Seamaster, over the Rolex Submariner, is never hearing the "Is THAT a REAL ROLEX" question.

You can go into a shop and buy this watch, I tried it on today, it's beautiful....my mates been waiting 2 years for his sub, sod that!

I prefer fast rather than slow because I can simply extend the crown for a second or two every day and keep near perfect time for months.

I still prefer the Planet Ocean over this style wise but it’s an excellent watch. The Submariner is fantastic too but price, movement technology and availability of the Omega make it a compelling choice for me.

This new Seamaster could be the most beautiful watch I've ever seen. When I seen it in You Tube videos I thought it could not possibly be that nice in person. I was wrong. I've owned a Two tone Blue dial sub in the past, and was on the waiting list for a new Sub, but when I seen this Omega I had to have it. I have it now and It is beautiful, and wears like a much smaller watch. Extremely comfortable. I bought the rubber bracelet version. If the Rolex AD ever calls I will promptly tell him to sell it someone else.

Just purchased mine in blue after seeing it in person,, really impressed with the quality, omega has upped its game,, and that’s coming from a Rolex watch collector .... in my opinion Rolex has got to up there game with quality and availability

i have to disagree with one thing on this video.....if you dont like the size of the dial in general, obviously 42 is bigger than 40 on the sub.....however you went into detail that the lug to lug is 49.5 vs 48....you are correct on this.....but....you touched on the end links on the bracelet later and didnt mention that because of the way the sub links dont fall straight down like this upgrade on the omega, it actually wears more like 51 or 52......technically the omega wears more comfortably on a small wrist....(i own both a sub and this watch).

The newest Omega Seamaster is absolutely amazing. The ceramic dial... who else does this? It's crazy that I haven't seen this in a watch before when you think of how it will last decades, maybe even centuries with the color continuing to be vibrant. Great review man. Can’t stand that date window on the Sub . Looks ugly, collects dirt , obstructing the view of the hands and is date information really a priority on a dive watch ? Also , the Seamaster looks much better in live and feels even better , the best thing about it , for me that is , is the slightly curved domed sapphire that makes the markers look like they are floating above the dial . Also , when you hold the watch in your hands and go over it with your fingers everything is smooth , there are no sharp edges. Much , much better than the Sub . Even if they are evenly priced it is still a better choice .

Omega is my preference. The pop of it's design is amazing.

I own both. The Sub is a classic, more subdued watch (1950's style) and the SMP is a modern interpretation of a dive watch. I prefer the Rolex if I could only choose one. But the SMP is the best alternative to a Sub if: one cannot obtain one, cannot afford one, or wants a more modern watch.

I am very close to selling my entire collection to purchase either a Seamaster or a Sea Dweller. What is really turning me off Rolex though is this artificial, manufactured "shortage" of their most popular models here in Australia (Subs, GMT's, Daytona's, Sea Dwellers etc). There is no doubt in my mind that they are doing this on purpose to create an aura of rarity/ scarcity which is causing people to pay as much as double RRP in many cases. This slimy behaviour disgusts me and to my mind is borderline unethical. It has turned me off the brand even though I have always considered Rolex the king of all watch manufacturers. The issue is, if I bought a Seamaster, in the back of my mind would I always be thinking "It's beautiful but it ain't a Rolex."? It's a real conundrum!

Getting rid of the helium escape valve because it's not needed and extra expense? With that logic why have a dive watch that goes down to 300m when 99% of sub aqua divers will never get past 50m!? The escape valve for me is quintessential omega and a design detail which separates it from the pack. It's a beautiful watch !

I have previous version. Blue one and I love it. I think that Rolex is an overpriced myth. They are creating the demand so they can higher they prices. Not worth for me.

Great review. I own both the 2018 SMPc and the Subc. The omega is much more accurate. And it’s 15,000 gauss destroys the sub. Both great watches but my Rolex will either be sold or set aside to collect dust.

I just bought the Seamaster Professional 300 Diver 2 March 19. It does have the quick set date and the watch is awesome. I've had 2 submariners and the omega wins. Especially the new one.

I’ve had a Seamaster Professional since 1998. It has undergone only one factory servicing and has never missed a beat. Conversely, I’ve purchased three brand new Rolexes in the past three years, all three as gifts to others. Two out of the three of them have had to make trips to Switzerland to repair factory flaws with their movements. And so as such, you will NEVER convince me that a modern Rolex’s movement is somehow better than its competition. That said, my next diver will likely be a Fifty Fathoms or a CFB Patravi ScubaTec. The latter of which, the ScubaTec, if you’ve never tried one on then do so, it’s the most ergonomically perfect larger dive watch you’ll ever find!

I have the omega in Blue. Does the bezel align perfectly at 12 in yours? Mine is a click off (half click either side of 12). I thought I could live with it but it is driving me mad every time I look at it. I should have swapped it within the 30 days 😕

Great comparison!!!! I tried the Omega on and found it to be a huge improvement over the old model. The Omega is incredible. It is a real masterpiece and I believe it is a sub killer. I’ve never been a fan of the sword hands or the escape valve though. I do own both an Omega and a Rolex. I’m a big fan of both brands. I do love the change of the new date position and the new bracelet is great. It’s just that I can’t get past the hands and the valve. Id buy one of it wasn’t for those two things. I have smaller wrists than you and I love the fit of my pre-2018 SMPc and I tried on the new version and didn't like how it was at the edge of my wrist bone. Glad I got mine! Great review as well.

Went into the boutique last week and will be grabbing one of these in a few weeks. In real life this really shines. I had a no date sub, but this is much better in my view.

Wow you're one of the few people who prefer the smooth dial over the wave dial Seamaster. Omega got savaged for years by enthusiasts for removing the waves from the 2012-2017 version, which is why they brought them back in 2018. I like them both, personally. The HE escape valve should be smaller. Also your "lug-to-lug" commentary overlooks the fact that the end links in the newest version taper straight down, so they do not extend beyond the lugs. The same was not true of the older model, which means the new model "wraps around" the wrist about the same as the previous model.

Wonderful report. That Omega looks outstanding. Hopefully they will keep that model in time, giving it a real interesting history which is the lack against Rolex.

Running fast is, to me, always the most desireable as it makes things much easier in setting fully synchronized hands, by merely pulling out the crown at the zero point when waiting to hack to an accurate time signal (such as WWVB from Colorado).

It looks very stunning and refreshing as compared to the sub. Any idea how much if the rubber strap was bought from AD separately?

Remarkable, complete ,thorough, fair and well thought out review as always, top notch once again Guy . Imho Omega 300m has truly toped the crown. While partially horology hear say but with the published numbers to back it up , the consensus is Omega movement tech is top notch at least equal if not better then the kings . The wave dial and the co axial escapement now have clearly important horology history on their side - a strong nod to its lineage - and important part of a timepiece. Of course, artisanal dial design is a personal preference - unless it lacks it adds or detracts function. The Omega dial is more visible - both the hands and the indices are more conspicuous in all settings - and the presence of internal AR also aids visibility remarkably in daylight compared to the king - this is very important functionally , the ceramic insert is also much more visible, the bezels are now thought to functional equally well in wetsuit settings. The casework is more nuanced - the movement is better finished and visible. Its tough not to put the crown on the other head for today. One things for sure - Rolex is back in the gym as we speak. Thank you for a great channel.

An excellent review; really informative, thorough and balanced. My view is that the Omega is, by a fraction, the better watch technically by virtue of having a co-axial movement i.e. less friction, less lubrication required and therefore longer service intervals: just a more mechanically efficient solution. In terms of value, probably not that much in it because although there’s just so much more watch for what one pays for the Omega (and the watch is as good as if not better than the Rolex), there’s no doubt that the Rolex has superior residual financial value. As you say, both are pretty evenly matched.

Though the lug to lug distance on this new model is longer than the outgoing version, it is important to note that the outgoing version had endlinks which protruded from the case. The point at which the bracelet can be pulled directly down, is similar on both models.

On bracelet the NEW Diver 300 wears smaller than the old. Though the lugs are longer, the bracelet enters the end links instead of attaching at the exterior. The span of the older wears larger because of that.

Great video- I think I prefer the previous design too as its smaller for my girly wrists! I think the omega is a better "head buy" but if your heart is on the Rolex you're better following that. For me they're both too common/popular, which is not a terrible thing but id prefer a Seiko Sla017 or Sbdx017. The Rolex is annoyingly hard to get, yet you still them all the time and the omega reminds me of what a guy at work who doesn't like watches but "just wanted a nice one" would wear.

Thanks for the honest review. After watching your review I bought the old one. Main reason was price, the difference in price was 815$. Another reason was thickness, last but not least I liked plain dial over wave.

Love it, although I think it misses a deployant clasp on the rubber strap. I own the 2012 blue version and I’m seriously considering upgrading.

I have resisted buying a new SMP300 for years. I have a 2254.50 and a 2255.80, and just never felt like the new ones stacked up.....Until this one. I went with the blue, but it was a tough decision between it and the black. This, plus the Aqua Terra, make the collection perfect.

Omega states the lug to lug on the new SMP is 48mm. This makes the watch very wearable on most wrists. I'm not sure why some give a measurement of 50mm which is incorrect.

Omega needs to make a more attainable version (made of stainless or Time) of their world time...that dial is stunning. My only suggestion is to reduce the crown size.

I love the seamaster. I first noticed it on the wrist of a chap at my local shooting range and was instantly drawn to it. (Not sure which generation as I was probably only about 14) I've wanted one ever since. Time to get saving.

Great review ! We have about the same wrist Dimensions and the 50 lug to lug is an issue otherwise the watch is a stunner. I am considering between the previous version on the seamaster the current SMPC and 39.5 Planet Ocean as a retirement gift to myself after 34 yrs in law enforcement . Tough choice !

I finally held the new seamaster, was shocked compared to my Anniversary edition Submariner. I bought the black and gold seamaster on a rubber band since I personally don’t love any bracelet and will probably wear it on a nato. I love the new look, ceramic face with gold hands, ceramic and gold bezel, gold crown and HE valve, even gold around the raised numeric markers. Great looking and working new movement. Since buying it I definitely find myself wearing the seamaster more then the Submariner, enough for me to think about selling my sub to pick up an aquanaut. For me the Submariner seems boring compared to the seamaster. But after owning the Rolex for 15 years I’m kind of bored with it and while Rolex is hot I might as well sell before it drops again. Since back in 2005 when I bought the Rolex sub, it was not very popular and I bought it discounted below msrp straight from the AD. I personally think the aquanaut will be the next sub since it’s a step up with a textured face that’s becoming much more popular. I personally love the textured ceramic faces. On movement after wear, going through airports, the Rolex does get magnetized and needs demagnetizing but so far both ran well and accurately. More expensive movements like A. lange and Philippe Patek both rely on being only fast or 0 to some seconds of accuracy over any deviation to slow. If your Rolex runs slow it will not run fast the next day it will continue to run slow not even itself out. Same with if it runs fast, it will not be constantly varying to even the time out. Both are great movements but I’d nod to the omega due to the demagnetized capability.

I have the Omega 17’ and I love it. The waves I guess are there for the ocean cause it’s a “divers” watch lol

buddy...you have got one thing wrong...Rolex does not test its movements cased, except for the waterproofing part.....Omega gets the METAS certification only after the movement is tested across a spectrum of certifications in a cased scenario too....thus making the Omega movement superior....and I include the new 3235 movement of Rolex here too.

LOL.. it fits perfectly. (You did mention that the bracelet end links go more straight down compared to the old model, which helps here.) You might visually / aesthetically prefer smaller watches and that's fine, but it's not so big that it doesn't 'fit'.

This video could be a serious college drinking game on the word "aesthetic" or the phrases "don't know/not 100% sure". LOL Love the bezel on the Omega - so much more readable, almost 3D. And those HANDS - wow, Omega, just sharp!! Great comparison video! (Could be the booze talking... Wait - time to drink again.)

At first I wasn't a fan of these new ones. But just like a new car model their growing on me.

Applications are Rhodium plated. I bought the Omega in blue dial. Outstanding, well design watch. The clasp is outstanding, the should have tapered the bracelet to 18mm, it would have looked less bulky but it still very confortable. I also bought the new folding clasp strap, it cost me $500 but it’s super confortable and it looks very sporty!! Great and complete review. Omega all the way. Do not like how Rolex does their marketing. Rolex likes to measure status, Omega measures achievement. Outstanding video!!!!

I really love the dial, the case, the hands are unique and great, the movement is beautiful It's just the bezel for me. Such a pretty watch but the bezel font just seems too wide and almost cartoonish for me?

The numbers in the ceramic bezel are enamel and not just laqured. The numbers are lasercutted and then they are filled with 5 layers of enamel. Omega started this technique in the Speedmaster Racing watches from 2017 an its used for the tachymetric scale.

Great looking Omega but the increase in size was probably the wrong decision when the market is generally looking at smaller watches (witness the huge success of the Tudor BB58)

Can't get a much better in terms of a review and comparison. Nice job. Still walked away trying to figure out which one i would do. I'm definitely with you on the wave pattern, not a big fan. I think if the prices came down a bit on the older Omega 300's, i might just grab one.

Excellent review! Prefer the pre 2017 SMP. Have a black dial pre ceramic- classic!

The ceramic bezel is more vivid, the markings are not paint filled, they are Enamel so they will stay like new for the life of the watch, nice. I have many dive watches and a Rolex GMT Master II, for my this Omega Coaxial wins hands down. I would get the silver dial with the blued hands and applied indices with Blues outlines and blued subtle markings. Best looking dive watch, even the date wheel has blued numbers. Looks great on the blue strap or the bracelet, I would get both.

An Omega watch is a watch you think you need. On the other hand... A Rolex watch is the watch you really want.

I never though I’d own a Submariner but in 2009 my friend was in a tight spot and asked me to buy his 2004 38mm Sub and it’s the watch that I wear most. The reason that I prefer it over a Seamaster which I also like is that when a new version of the Sub debuts I know that I’ll always be comfortable in keeping the one that I have because they’re always basically the same watch. As for the cyclops at fifty eight years old my tired eyes have come to appreciate it a lot.

Rolex looks cleaner to me. Omega looks too busy. Skeletal hands on the Omega kill me, but I have a slight astigmatism, so that might not mean anything to others. Also, the date on the Omega is so small as to be useless without a magnifying glass. Either make it easily readable like Rolex, or drop it all together.

I also like the previous SMPc better. Unfortunately, I can't allow myself to purchase a pre-8500 calibre Omega, given how much of an improvement the 8500 architecture is and its impact on modern horology. I'm going to just have to wait until the next Seamaster update and hope Omega returns to its senses with applied logos, non-ceramic dials (why use ceramic on DIALS???), guilloche, sunburst, and other dial decorations, etc. A smaller beef of mine is they need to remove Co-axial text from its dials, almost as badly as Rolex needing to remove "Officially certified" from its dials. Almost all Omega watches have co-axial escapements; it's completely redundant and unnecessary. I love my Speedy and Skyfall Aqua Terra, though.

Great video, thoroughly enjoyed such a detailed review of the watch. Only criticism, more so consideration, your comments of the helium valve being pointless, the diver extension on the clasp being pointless, both because most people won't use them.. I agree, most won't, however, it's a dive watch. If watches followed your opinion, we would no longer have dive watches or pilots watches etc because 'most people' won't use the features. Get where you're coming from, but just think on that premise, we'd be in a world of simple date/time only watches and nothing else. Great video nonetheless ✌️

I would guess, your Sub is longer, if you measure from one endlink to the other.

I have both and do prefer the Rolex too but love the Omegas size more - I like a little flash so the waves work for me and the Rolex I’ve got is the blue two tone so obviously I like things a little louder than you prefer - I am surprised how close the two watches are especially since you can get almost 3 omegas for the price of the two tone Rolex - if $$$ a factor I would highly recommend the Omega hands down - great video I think your bang on in your review

Dude. The older wave pattern is MUCH more subtle than the 2018 pattern.

Only spending a little time with the omega, already concluding it is a “technical” better watch.....Yes its a Rolex killer, and to a much better pricepoint it ticks a lot of boxes for me! Well done with the review
