One thing: chemicals that break up dust and grime etc... are also braking up your skin and lungs over time. So to make yourself last as long as your truck, you have to protect yourself (gloves! Facemask!)

An older gentleman who taught me how to work on cars told me if you want to stop or prevent rust, get a spray bottle of Automatic Transmission Fluid. It will last about 2 years per application. Just spray whatever metal you want to prevent rust on, let it sit for about 2 hours, then wipe it off. Works wonders

after cleaning id recommend if you have a box frame using 3m cavity wax and spraying that inside the boxed areas and anywhere theres an over lap then use that or fluid film but before all of that id use por 15 on any rust starting after you wire brush the loose stuff off then use like a rustoleum paint to paint it all then after thats done as routine maintenance id use the cavity wax and fluid film i have a tacoma and the frame looks new i also have a 73 f250 highboy and the underneath looks new on that and i live in pa in the salty road area of the united states that truck was a frame up restoration tho it did have sone rust but i didnt own it from new its rust free now

Found someone just like me only my vehicles are a Sprinter van and Subaru STi. Lots of advantages in getting underneath and cleaning, can see early evidence of leaks, wires/hoses rubbing or not supported properly, and obviously keeping clean is best for corrosion prevention. There is a lot of engineering under our vehicles and most of it is well done. It’s very satisfying to keep it clean if you have time.

Yup, my pre-winter routine is to spray, drive up and down a dusty dirt road until the drips stop, then spray, and drive up and down the road again. When you are done, it looks like your undercarriage is made from that expanding foam stuff, but at least it won't rust. Once spring hits, and there has been enough rain to wash the salt off the roads, I'll give it a good clean to get the oil/dirt/salt cement off, and re-spray. It's a 1952 Dodge M37CDN, and hasn't dissolved yet, so I'm calling the method proven.

I’m the same way with all my vehicles and bike (OCD), but it’s been 2 years since I did my Durango last. It’s that time again. I always used to clean it to the point it looked like new again purple power/paint where need be/dressing, which IS a phenomenal feeling given that it’s an ‘03! Thanks for the tips, I didn’t even think about finishing with WD-40...! I actually rebuilt the heads on my ‘11 Ram Hemi and cleaned them with WD-40, wire and nylon brushes, and even wet sanded with the stuff. It’s very multi purpose substance for sure!

I just got my new truck and it’s been awhile since I had a truck I plan on keeping till I die. So looks like it’s back to spending time doing this. I used to do similar just not as deep but thanks for some new info so stuff I was miss. Now not only is this good to protect the truck but you really start to get to know your truck it becomes a friend in a way. But another big thing about this is can find all the broken or damaged things also you can catch things before it can do damage in some cases. Say a nut fell off on part of the suspension while your mudding and the bolt Get covered up then one day the bolt falls out the. There goes a leaf or a coil then crash there goes your truck. But if you were this detailed about it you will notice the nut most likely before it falls off so you tighten it up and it’s all good. You really know your truck this way you know when somethings not right. Plus your more in tune with it. You become one with your truck. Now I see you are using all adam products. Now do you use them because they sponsor your vids or do you truly like it more then anything else. I can see you love you truck, as the same as I love mine. When it comes to products like car care wash stuff or really anything you will only put what you feel is the best for it and going to protect it the most and cost is not a factor for the most part. If your favorite quick detail is was 100 dollars a bottle but in the end you really saw it’s was the best and you saw the value in it you would spend it with out thinking twice. So why adams? Did you always use in the past before you even started KZfaq? How many other brands and type have you tried before them ? Also are You trying new types of products from time to time to see if something newer and better came out? Or is their stuff good and they send it free so you use it? There’s a ton of different products on the market and there’s a hand full of really good ones and I feel there’s at least 2-3 different brands that could be used instead of one another and the same results what be achieved. What do you think about that?

Living in Ontario, Canada you have spray the entire vehicle down with rustproofing oil and then the rooad dirt that accumulates on top of that actually protects it. Then you wash off excess accumulation of dirt in the spring and then spray on top of whats left once it dries. So we have a layer of oily road dirt to protect the vehicle.

Pressure wash using synthetic soluble oil used in CNC machine tools, it does not take much but it coats the undercarriage with anti-rust coating that will not collect dust, that is if you use 1/8 ounce per gallon mix. it also leaves the undercarriage looking great.

I actually take it a step further, I coat with fluid film and let it sit for a couple months.. the fluid film creeps into the cracks and crevices… then I clean and wipe all the fluid film off all the main surfaces and coat with WD-40! For plastics and tires 303 only!!! I’m super truck and boat OCD lol Truck always stays in climate controlled garage with dehumidifier and stays dry as much as possible. Great video! Prob the best I’ve seen in something like this. P.s. use latex gloves to keep your hands dry then put mechanics gloves on over so u don’t get all cut up. I also wear a full goretex rain suit.

Also from Canada. I don't know where this guy lives, but I've never seen a chase that clean on a vehicle that's been driven through winters. His techniques are for starting with a new vehicle in order to maintain it, not a vehicle with current rust. We really can't do an outdoor driveway cleaning every three months when the temperature is below freezing for four to six months per year. Most frames in Canada that rot out, rot from the inside out.

If you guys can get to it, try to reasurch KROWN or fluid film like applicants rust protective. I have a Tundra, which has a bad history with rust. Got it Krowned for the past two year. Took it to the Toyota to get oil change and the mechanic wanted to find out what I was doing to make the bottom of my truck last so good.

All fine and dandy when you live somewhere that you don't have 9 month winters! Here in Saskatchewan, we want to enjoy our "summer" when we do get it! I've seen snow in every month except July here! Just don't have the time to get this involved in cleaning my truck! Not that I wouldn't, just that our summers here are soooo short, and winters take forever, not to mention the four to six weeks of -30 to -40 C in January and February! Great video though, thanks for the info!!

Maybe you should all be driving snowmobiles instead of cars for those 9 months.

Was about to say that. It’s easy to do that if you don’t live in the rust belt 😂 that’s why his truck still has paint on the frame.

@Ross Outdoors Southern Ontario lays salt down just for fun. Was headed back down south on the 400 (north of Barrie), 4 hour drive. Got home and my truck was honestly COVERED in a thick layer of salt. Never seen anything like it. It's all cause many GTA people don't know how to drive in snowy conditions and crash unless the roads are dry.

In the beginning, I bought like 30 cans of surplus Rustoleum anti-rust paint. So the underside is like "Tie Die" because 30 cans go a long way. But over time, the black grease and other cans of "paint" I got covered the RustOleum. I'm so happy I did that, because after 490,000 miles I have Zero Rust, on on the "brake disks" rust shows...

I see you live in Cali, me too. One thing I never do in NorCal is get underneath my truck when it's just sitting on stands. We live in Earthquake zone, outside of that, on hot days the concrete driveway can bend tiny bit under the load (especially pin point loads). I usually throw all four tires that I removed underneath the axle when I use the creeper.

Lmao get off it. We don’t get earthquakes that frequently and that violently. Unless you live LITERALLY ON THE SAN ANDRES FAULT LINE. Ok boomer. Nice scare story.

Nice job! I am insane too. I enjoy detailing my trucks and under carriage. Looks like a need to use more dressing and WD4 then i currently do as it’s not as shiny as yours.

You are not crazy I have a 2022 ram 1500 limited I got last September, I lived in Ontario Canada where they salt the road here every winter what I did I when I bought the truck I painted over the factory paint on the frame and, then clear coat over it then got it rust proof from krown, I'm definitely doing a deep clean under my truck then rerustproof it when the weather gets better I don't give a crap what people think about me I love my truck and want it to last a very long time can't be driving a nice truck with a rusted out frame
