The truth is, we don't know how much he contributed to the song...my guess is that the song was written and perhaps he re-arranged things or added a line. Let me give you an example... Demi Lovato's song "Heart Attack" has Demi's name in the writing credits. But the demo of it got leaked and the lyrics are pretty much the same. She made some vocal arrangements, yet still got songwriting credit. Meghan Trainor did an interview recently about how singers take credit for songs they didn't write. Also, the song was co-written by Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels, who happen to be big songwriters right now, and I doubt they only wrote 1/2 a song. If he wrote it with them, you'd think he'd remember their names, right? But this is not undermining his songwriting capability...I'm just saying we shouldn't assume anything because we don't know who exactly wrote what.

+Rach D yes,but there's a difference here,justin said on interviews that he is excited because he is finally showing his OWN music,he said before much of his songs weren't written by him,he just sang them,and now he can finally write his own songs,his co-writer and friend jason boyd said they both wrote like 103 songs in the past years but most of them are not released yet(some of them are in the album PURPOSE),so if Bieber says he wrote a song is truth,because you can even search for most of his old songs,and there are not credits for him like "writer" because he didn't write them,he is not gonna lie with that.

Hence my statements, we don't know who wrote what lines. I'm sure he wrote most songs on the album but we'll never know what were his contributions. Songwriting is very collaborative. Singers can say whatever they want, but we can't assume anything. This goes for all artists out there. I'm just saying you should taking songwriting credits with a grain of salt. But it's not a hit on JB because I'm sure he's a great songwriter. Unless there's a sole writer, it's hard to know what percentage of a song someone wrote.

And seems like he's dancing around the question of his contribution. He doesn't actually talk about the writing process. He said that there was one other writer, but there were 2 (3 total). He said that the writers collaborated on it before he heard it.

Even if an artist so much as changes a lyric or part of a melody / timing / production elements of a melody that's already been written for them purely because it's easier for them to pronounce then they're entitled to song writing credits. If you look at the songwriting credits for 'Purpose' (the album) each song has half a dozen of the best pop songwriters in the world so you can probably make a safe bet that Bieber's contribution to the finished product, other than the actual singing, is absolutely minimal.

Man this dude is in tune with what he does and hes so right some music today Is OTT and sometimes missing the basis Less is more the simpler the better. yes he has more resources to draw from than others but he has real insight and passion. I use to think he was a fake artists like talor and kate just pumping out songs like a actor reading a script And to say his song is trying to copy the Beatles like the song hello hello that is easy listening free flowing catchy style means he knows how songs truly work and that is one of the big things that makes a real musician. woods trees you need to do more research if you're referring to "talor" as "Taylor swift" being a fake artist. You absolutely have no idea what you're even talking about if you consider bieber a real artist and Taylor swift a fake one. Taylor swift writes her music, she pretty much always has. Her music is just as corny and repetitive as Justin's but at least SHE WROTE MOST of her music and still tops the charts. She's like one of the last artists in like the last 10-12 years with an album that was mainly written solo by the artist themselves and that was her Fearless album she pretty much wrote on her own with very limited contributions from other artists and writers. If anyone ever watched an interview of a songwriter then I'm sure you noticed that they explain their collab process with the artist. A lot of the time more often than not I've witnessed countless songwriters say that they kinda get an idea of who the artist is. They have a conversation with the artist before the creating even starts... They basically find out what the artists wants to say on the album and they create that vision for them through music.. the songs they create may reflect what the artist has been through or what the artist is feeling but that doesn't make it the artist's Creation because a lot of the time they aren't involved in the creating process it's basically them picking out what they like about what the songwriters have already created or them picking out what they don't like and I think because of this Bieber thought that made him a Creator and it doesn't. Essentially it might be his vision and it might have to go through him but he's there just validating what he wants from what's being created by others not by himself. That doesn't make you a Creator just because you went from the label telling these producers and songwriters the type of stuff to make for you to YOU telling the producers and songwriters what to make for you... You're still not the one creating

it's wrong to think "music used to be good back then" or "nowadays music is missing the simple melody" fact is, simple and good melodies are already taken, its getting harder and harder to come up with new (good) stuff, or you sample stuff
