When Jalen Hurts got paid, everyone said he needed to win a Super Bowl to justify his paycheck but now that Justin Herbert got paid, he only has to win a playoff game to be deemed successful? Make that make sense.

It's pure media nonsense and favoritism. Now, 2 things: 1 - for some reason Jalen's meteoric rise seems to displease many talking heads. The guy is not "liked". He's the phenom of the 2022 season (along with the otherworldly Mahomes and Miracle Purdy), but his name is barely been mentioned ever. 2 - Jalen does not need, nor does Herbert for that matter, to "justify" anything. Their employers (the owners) showed us all how worthy those QBs are to them. Owners don't "bet" on future results on the field. They invest in a QB knowing already what their global ROI will be on all fronts (TV and content rights, commercial exposure, jerseys, hot dogs...). It's all accounted for already. Peace, Tam.

I’m a diehard Herbert fan, I don’t think jalen needs to win a Super Bowl same with Lamar, they just need to stay healthy and produce in the realm of their best seasons. Same with Herbert.

Then the defense completely collapsed in the 2nd half and gave up 31 points, along with the Chargers kicker missing the dagger FG… if you watched the game, you’d know Herbert wasn’t the problem

Mahomes has been exceeding expectations with middle of the pack defenses for years and continues to get it done one way or another. there’s levels and Herbert isn’t there… YET. i think he’s a good/great QB but you have to get something done to be considered top 5 in the league

“Jalen hurts has been to a Super Bowl”. Yeah, imagine if Herbert only had to score more than 7 points every game to get to the Super Bowl. Pretty sure he could do that no problem. Talking about what he did in the second half and not talking about how he drove 60 yards for an easy fg to change the game, and his kicker misses it. He has lead his team to more points in a qbs first 3 seasons ever. His defense has given up more points than any team in a qbs first 3 seasons ever.

Hey, I’m no Herbert fan (overhyped, treated with kid gloves, needs to win more), but Kyler got paid way early, Hurts was an easy contract to reset the market.. Josh got the check pretty easily.. and to be fair, Lamar didn’t have an agent to shield him from the PR push against him from an already stingy organization.. and then still reset the market.. to me, Herbert should have a higher bar set for him than “win a playoff game”.. but the money makes total sense

I think people forget that in that playoff game herbert DID drive his team down the field and set up a chip shot field goal of like 38 yards that the kicker missed, giving the jags the final possession down only 2 instead of 5. If that kick goes in we apparently all have a very different opinion of herbert, which makes no sense

@@suv3534 Ok but if trevor lawrence's kicker would have missed the field goal with no time left would that have made his second half performance any less extraordinary? I believe it isn't a QBs fault when they put their team in a position to win and the rest of the team can't execute. Herbert played a solid clean playoff game with no run support or O line blocking. He wasn't extraordinary in the second half cause the OC decided dink and dunk offense and 2.6 YPC was good enough to finish the game.

As a black Lions' fan, it's not racism. Hurts got his money quickly. I get being hesitant on Dak, I like him but he's super limited as a qb. I hate how they did LJ and I don't think it was because he's black. I think how the media trashes his throwing ability when he's won far more than Dak, Herbert, Allen, Cousins, etc. With LESS talent around him is kind of discriminatory. Like look at the Pressure that the media puts on him him versus Allen and Herbert. They talk about injuries to the chargers like LJ didn't go a whole year with 3rd string players when hard the team had acl and Achilles injuries.

Chargers have had top3 defensive rosters every year. Terrible coaching and a lot of injuries always takes away from them, but the coaching can be controlled. Still, Herbert ain't winning anything and has no accolades to earns such a deal. Chargers don't care about winning, they want to put up a show and earn those dollars.

Jalen Hurts had one good season. One. Not to mention he plays in the NFC. Did we ignore Herbert’s first two seasons where he solidified himself as a Top-5 and forget that he played the entire season with fractured rib cartilage and a torn labrum on his non-throwing shoulder towards the end of the season. And still put up numbers? Need I mentioned the Chargers defense?

Hurts was 2nd Team All Pro. 2nd in MVP voting. Balled out in the SB. Coulda easily won MVP and been 1st Team All Pro had he not been injured and a bounce here or there and he's a SB Champ and SB MVP on top of it. He's accomplished more in less time than Herbert. Herbert has to not just win a playoff game but make a deep run. Conference Championship at least.

I feel like there are times Herbert outperforms mahomes against each other. But mahomes doing mahomes-like things outshines Herbert stats. And defense letting chiefs win. I still think even if Herbert does beat mahomes multiple times not winning division will still be his next negative criticism. I mean coach plays a big role. Who would you have Reid or Staley. I’ve got nothing against Herbert, he’s good no question. I’ve just never seen a player crowned so much before accomplishing. I know I sound stupid, but I really feel if Herbert was 6’1 not 6’6, everyone would scrutinize and trash him.

I love how the offence blasts the Jaguars up 27, yet it's the offense's fault for the loss? C'mon man. The other team has a defense too. Chargers defense lost them a won game, blaming that on the guy that orchestrated a 27 point lead is absurd. 'Oh he could've got 3 more points' he can't even do that, he's not on the punt team! They could've let him down too! If I was on the defense that night, I would be apologizing to the offense, not just Herbert.

Herbert is highly overrated, I've said this a while back.............the man hasn't accomplished anything. I think he's a good player, but hasn't accomplished anything to warrant such a contract. He reminds me of Matt Ryan who was good but could never be the man in big moments and he was overrated as well.

I think the chargers offense doesn’t get some of the blame they deserve with the playoff loss to the jags. If the offense can’t score any points unless the defense and special team forces a turnover and give the offense short field position imo they can’t be off the hook.

How can you and sit there and blame the defense for that playoff loss when the chargers defense forced 4 turnovers putting the chargers in great field position. When it was Deshaun Watson they said for that money he has to win the Superbowl now Watson is 7th highest paid with this new deal and Justin Herbert is the highest paid and all they're saying is win a playoff game? It's not slanted though, Not at all. This is the stuff sports analyst claim they don't do, They say we aren't slanted against any team it's all fair and unbiased. I hate it that they use stats like that to make it seem like he was so amazing. Most in the first 3 years ever! He play two seasons of 17 games. The seasons are longer than ever before. He lost at home to Jimmy G. He barely made playoffs, and I don’t want to hear the injury excuses. Great qbs make other players better. He chokes and in no way should be getting that much money. They talk about all those failed 4th downs from two seasons ago… maybe they wouldn’t have to go for it so much if the kid could move the chains

I guess stats dont matter to Joy. His numbers have declined his first 3 years. Albeit one of the best first 3 years for a QB stats wise......the stats were off the charts in year one. Drop in year two. And year 3 was his worst. So, sorry Joy, he has not got better every year. In this instance.....you got the bag to be on this show, now you need to perform like it.

Stats lie. You call it "decline"... but didn't mention WINS. For all I know, year 1 is "garbage time stats when trailing", while year 3 is "efficient playoff team".. Throw 2TDs and lose 17-14... Throw 1TD and win 7-0... Which is the better game? Sure, in one game he "threw more TDs"... but maybe he had more yards in the win... there's so much left unmentioned...

What are u taking about year 2 was his best year by far so his stats didn’t decline and year 3 if u maybe watched the games his ribs were cracked all year he dealt with his Lt and RT in and out of the lineup same with his 2 best wrs and play calling was horrible and one of the worst run games in the league and a defense allowing 24 plus points a game

Pretty sure his 1st & 2nd year Herbert beat KC at Arrowhead both times. And the losses were at home in OT & or were close, down to seconds.
