This started off like a song from Counterparts, then segued into something that could have been off Victor. I don't think I had noticed what a freakishly weird solo we got on this one from Alex! Again haven't played this one in over 20 years, happy to be along for the journey.

Even on mediocre Rush albums, there are a few gems. This is a prime example. Even with the postmodernism of the lyrics, I really love them. It's strange how a song like this can co-exist on the same album as Dog Years and Virtuality. That's artists for you, I suppose.

Time and Motion is one of my favorites on this album. This and Driven. It was only played live on the Test for Echo tour. Like most of the live tracks from this album, it was never played again. Driven and Resist were the only tracks played live after the TFE tour and only maybe on the subsequent tour. I think the fact that Rush largely stayed away from playing this album live on subsequent tours demonstrates that it just didn’t catch on with them or with fans that much.

In an album full of safe dull songs, this song kinda sorta resembles old rush with the heavier feel and odd time signatures. Wish they did more songs like this on T4E but at this time they were so settled into pretty stock sounding rock songs like color of right and many others.

Love all these first five songs, and as far as the words, dude I can’t stress enough: “ITS ALL ABOUT THE LYRICS” they never played The Color of Right live and this one only made the set list on the first few nights of the tour before getting permanently dropped. I would imagine that, one it didn’t translate well live, two they witnessed the whole audience going for beer or the bathroom once it started, three they weren’t really enjoying it and four: ALL OF THE ABOVE😂🤘🖖✌️🥁🎸🎹🎤

Personally,Dog Years was a favorite of mine for lot of years,still my top 5 to this day,simply because i was amazed of how the drum parts was created when you listen/see it.What got me more on this album was Neil's A Work In Progress DVD where he filmed every song on drums and how he reinvinted himself with Freddy.In my opinion,T4E is top 3 of neils best drumming album..not always pounding everything..just the way he incorporates and go smooth on every track and change instead the timing of his fills and beats..! Maybe for some ppl to enjoy this album more,i highly suggest to look at this doc! 😊

This sounds the most Rush Like song on the album. I like Alex's sinister chording at the break but I absolutely agree with you, the musical switch ups were kind of all over the place for me. I'd skip the rest of the album personally.

Bad, dark evil opinion….. after hearing this album…. The reason for the hiatus is terrible, horrible, tragic and no one should have to endure what Neil went through…… But I am so glad they took time off, reflected, rejuvenated, then came back to make the best stuff they ever made. This album made me feel they were losing direction or something. Especially after Counterparts which was a massive shift in focus. But Rush is Rush. They do what they want. Express what they want when they want to. Props and respect. But I never revisit this album.🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️😭😭😭😭

A lot of interesting individual ideas and sections in this one, but I don't think it quite hangs together as a song. The feel reminds me of Camera Eye and Witch Hunt at times with the very prominent (for this record) keyboards. Certainly the most attention-grabbing track on the record. Coming up: Totem is maximum 90s alt rock, and then the one-two punch of Neil's worst lyrics of all time with Dog Years and Virtuality.

Always thought this was an interesting song. Musically, one of my favorites on the album. What I don't like about late-period Rush is mainly Geddy's vocal melodies - or lack thereof. The well ran dry at a certain point. They began to sound flat and uninspired.

I like this song, but I do see that it's not one of their strongest ones. It's almost there and has a lot of the qualities you find in Rush songs and is good, but it doesn't have that special quality that makes it one of the ones they would want to pull out on a regular basis.
@yes_head
@yes_head Жыл бұрын
Definitely one of the better songs on the album, plus notice: another triple meter arrangement. It's as if Neil came in from his Freddy Gruber sessions with a new rhythmic exercise to use on a song. This is also an example of Geddy's vocal harmonies being used for positive effect, instead of just beefing up his weakening chops. My only gripe is the backing keyboard on those angular melodic fills. The texture just seems very out of date.
