Early 2000s, Y2K, what a moment in time! Many of you maybe weren't even alive to remember Y2K. You probably don't remember that we all thought the entire world would end, or that computers would never work again, do you? But you may remember thin eyebrows, bump its and shiny lip gloss! In this video I'm diving into some of the biggest Y2K hair and beauty trends.

Picture it- high school in the year 2000- everyone looked like hot trash. No one used skin care other than neutrogena bar soap and Oxy pads. The trend was bleaching one's hair, but NO ONE knew about toner, so everyone had brassy yellow mops. Foundation was two tones off, and was applied with the fingers in a swirling motion all over the face, NO POWDER. Everyone used those mechanical eye pencils (I think they were Maybelline) and we melted the tips of the pencils with a lighter, and then smeared it all around the eyes, and eye shadows were CHALKY af, and never blended. Mascara was Greatlash in the green & pink tube, and NO ONE coated their lashes to the roots. Lip glosses that were metallic and sticky, and smeared everywhere. No one contoured or blushed or high lighted. And everyone smelled like Tommy Girl or Cotton Candy perfume.

The thin eyebrow trend needs to be held accountable for the irreparable damage that was inflicted on all the unsuspecting brows of the early 2000s! The trend slipped out the back door when no one was looking, leaving my brows looking like sperm, and they still haven't recovered to this day. It's a travesty and I want justice!

I know a lot of middle aged gals who still have the spermies, and I don't have the heart to ask, did they not grow back or do you know know that trend sailed a LONG time ago. Mine are patchy to this day. Damn skinny brows.

I tweezed my brows in high school and they have literally not grown back. I stopped years ago and don't tweeze at all but they're gone forever so I have to draw them on now (I have halfass really sparse ones) 😭

Ladies, dont worry. The current huge thick brows trend will not last forever...it has already receded from its zenith, when the teenager cashing you out at CVS always looked like she had drawn big rectangular cartoon eyebrows on her forehead with dark brown magic marker that morning. Eventually, it will shift to a more moderate style where your sparse brows arent so difficult to whip into the fashion profile.

We were genuinely stressed about y2k. They brought in people to my office for a year to reprogram everything. It was the best New Year’s Eve party I’ve ever been too, though.

For anyone who wasnt alive at the time: The y2k "computer systems will have problems, this might be a major issue" thing was not just a random panic or conspiracy theory. It really was a potential problem, and it was tech scientists who were raising the alarm. IT specialists spent a lot of time and effort creating patches to try to avoid any major problems.

Fortunately enough was patched in time that no major problems happened, but minor problems did. At my dad’s company at the time, their software was displaying the year as 19100.

Yes, I saw a post comparing it to Covid and the vaccinations where ppl scoff and say there was no need to worry cos the results haven't been as bad as predicted, not getting it's because ppl have worked their tail off to provide mitigations/solutions

@@suzylovesmambo I work in IT now but my boss who was already in IT at that time said that the government really made sure that the computers were especially patched in hospitals, because that would be catastrophic to some patients. Even making sure that the medical records and medicine dosage of each patient doesn't get blipped by midnight into 2000 because the computers thought it's year 00 was something they had to address and make sure each single server and computer were sent patches.

I've always had thick eyebrows and was mercilessly made fun of middle school for it. Now those same people are drawing their eyebrows on as thick as mine 🤦‍♀️Trends come and go, put people stay stupid forever!

You already mentioned some of these but the following is a list of just a few of my y2k fashion blunders: -scenster/hipster bangs -frosted/foundation lips with absolutely no blush (I looked like a ghost) -thin brows (I’m so grateful mine grew back… mostly) -the lowest of low rise jeans -lacy camisole spaghetti strap tops -small rectangular handbags -studded belts -Uggs -those rimless pastel colored see-through sunglasses with Swarovski hearts and stars -Swarovski everything -Von Dutch trucker hat (though in my defense that was a micro phase for me) -velvet sweatsuits -cargo capris -dark denim EVERYTHING -fedoras and poufy newsboy caps -pleather -dresses over jeans!! I was all over the map with my fashion choices and then went full on scenster from approx 2003-2006 🥴😂 p.s. you are a shining bright light, JVN! We are blessed to know you 😘

My mother still has this eyebrows, she is now 73, never grew back. She always reminds me of not plugging my eyebrows and I never did! Though her overall styling is bomb, better than mine, it’s a talent!

Ohmygosh! I did the hair bump for sooo long! I had these long thin Goody barrettes that I used to make the bump. I’d tease it, push it forward then use one barrette. Then held pushed forward, I’d slide the second barrette in parallel, but from the opposite direction. It would hold all day and night- with tons of hairspray though.

My mom was told that smoking whilst pregnant would help her to not gain as much weight. Good decision on her doctor’s part. My growth may have been stunted, but at least she looked hot in a bikini during her third trimester. 😏 priorities….am I right?

Baby girl ask any drag queen, NO brow coverage looks that good! Maybe they were shaving their eyebrows a la Jeffree Star, maybe they did pluck their shit into oblivion and it's been a makeup lie ever since, but those pics of Xtina and Gwen are NOT covered with glue stick (especially since that was their every day look, it wasn't for a special occasion.)

Nah Xtina and Gwen took their eyebrows off. They were probably shaved so they grew back better than when people plucked snd waxed them. But they’ve also have micro blading snd eyebrow implants since.
