I would dispute the "non-athletic" bit. It is simply a too narrow definition of athleticism. Having great footwork and coordination is athletic. Being able to process a game situation ahead of everyone else is pathetic. Being so well conditioned that you can make good decisions for the duration of an entire game - and trust me - if you are poorly conditioned you decision making ability is the first to go. He never seems out of breath for an entire game. He manages to blow by someone like Antonio Davis, which requires considerable speed. Tossing a pass across the length of the court with high accuracy is athletic. Having superb hand-eye coordination is athletic. @@Herbalizer28

@coledorillo6685
@coledorillo6685 Жыл бұрын
Joker has better shooting than Dirk and arguably better rebounding than Moses. Joker can shoot on all 3 levels at better efficiency. Joker's passsing is better in half-courrt offense but maybe magic has the edge in transition offense. Joker's outlet passes are crazy though so maybe not. Joker is a better rebounder since his rebounds actually have more value. Hes also in the argument for greatest passer so when he gets a rebound, he can dish out dimes.

@@coledorillo6685 if Jokic tries to shoot outside the paint on Dirk's volumes he would drop off a cliff in efficiency -- the mid range most especially. Inside 10 feet though it's no contest, Jokic takes it by a mile. The passing game is totally different as the Showtime Lakers likes to run. Jokic can't run as fast as Magic or Worthy haha lol And rebounding? Not even close. Moses can't pass like Jokic that's why you say that his impact has a lesser value but in terms of purely rebounding the ball for another possession Moses blows him out of the park. Now my hot take is when it's all said and done Jokic would be greater than Dirk and Moses and would prolly be in the top 10 all time if he wins 4 rings like LeBron and Steph

@M&M No, here's the thing. He's NOT a superstar. Not because of talent or ability but because the NBA had no desire to market one of its best, arguably the best, player in the NBA. So the question is why? Because he doesn't jump out of the gym? Doesn't have a soul crushing dunk on someone's head? Doesn't shoot 3s from the logo? I don't know, only Adam Silver can answer that. It wasn't until after game 1 of the Finals that the NBA acknowledged people were searching for clips of Jokic. He's a back to back MVP and was in the running for a third consecutive MVP and you market him now just to try and ensure your Finals ratings don't drop? Shame on you Adam Silver. I can guarantee that David Stern wouldn't have missed on such a globally marketable talent.

@@walterworthy7494 Meh. When a guy wins two consecutive MVP's he is, by any reasonable definition, a superstar. You can't accuse the league of downplaying him when, you know, two MVP's. And I'm OK with Embiid winning MVP this year even though he's not quite the player Jokic is. The league should throw a bone to other great players, too, even if they're not quite as great as Jokic. After all, Barkley and Malone won MVP's when Jordan was playing, even though everyone knows they weren't his equal.

Its an great comparison cause he doesnt dunk or bully defenders like shaq, has an signature move like hakeem that changes the game or an elite athlete like wilt. but none of those have jokic impact on team winning as he can make any player look like an superstar if the game was winnable by only passing he would, could drop 50 at ease with over 60% fg while grabbing more rebounds than your favorite team in 3 quarters

nah Mark was right to gasp at the Moses comment. Because the reality is this; Magic who played on a star studded team where others grabbed a lot of rebounds and scored a lot of points, still managed to drop a regular season career average 19.5 points and 7.2 rebounds. So Magic, in sheer volume, was a step above Jokic in passing, but was also basically as good as Jokic on rebounds and scoring, he just played point guard on a team where his teammates had a bigger statistical contributions than Jokic’s teammates. So yeah to say Jokic rebounds loke Moses, huuuge stretch. The beauty of the Jokic rebounds is that like so much of his game, the fascinating thing is the reading and anticipation. He just knows where to be to get the boards. But he is not in the cream of the elite rebounders who fight for it and win it.

I remember the Rockets title in 95, I was 10. We were REALLY into the run that year, my whole family. I think I still have the special edition unopened coke bottles from that year lol. The intermediate school that I went into that very next year was brand new, they had just built it and we were the first class to go through it. They asked us to come up with the name of the place/mascot by submitting options, and the top 5 would have a "by round of applause" in the next assembly to name the school. They ended up being named the Rockets. The kids erupted when they mentioned that name, almost blew the windows out of the place. On the radio that year, just before the championship games (and all during) they created a version of the song "Do you believe in magic?" with changed lyrics talking down to the Orlando Magic and how Olajuwon's gonna take Shaq to school, etc. Those were some fun times :D

Keep in mind that while KD was out for the first 4 games, the Raptors didn't have their best 3&D wing and DPOY candidate, OG Anunoby, throughout the entire playoff run, and they ran smaller rotations than the warriors did the entire series. Plus, you have to start relying on guys who aren't normally in the rotation which is always a risk especially as you get deeper in the playoffs. Considering Cassell was pretty inefficient in the 94 season you wouldn't expect him to step up in 95 playoffs, which he did but not by a huge amount. No big man will ever fairly be comparable to Dirk, he shot the ball in an era where there was little floor spacing and the mavericks have never had great spacing until the turn of the three ball. Dirk's shooting prowess is of the highest calibre a big man will ever reach.

I don’t necessarily think the "NBA is rigged” theory is a bad take. At the end of the day, the NBA is a business. They probably aren’t "rigged” at the extent you explained in the video, but it’s a good amount of evidence out there that supports they might have mettled with the integrity of the game. You have Tim Donaghy that has been saying for years refs have influenced multiple games to lean one way.

I agree, I feel like for sure it's a tiny bit rigged. They don't write the scripts, but I think they will give the teams they want to win favorable refs/calls. I think they do it fairly subtly to maintain the illusion, but I've watched enough lakers games to know the league definitely slightly pulls for them.

Jokic can break down the opposing teams defense in ways that can have a profound impact in any give game. The fact that he can do all three at a high level helps him pick apart the defense in ways which is his own thing entirely and puts him in his own category.

Some of the offensive boards that Jokic manages to come up with are beyond impressive. He will reach into three defenders, pop the ball out, track it down, and start initiating the offense. He will beat 4 guys for a board night in and night out. He is always thinking about getting good rebounding positioning while the play is going on if he's not initiating the action. He boxes out better than anybody else in the league. He's averaged 13.3 rebounds per game in the last two post seasons. 3 of those are offensive. Moses Malone averaged 14 or more rebounds in only four of his postseasons, his highest being 20 in 1979. When Malone played, possessions per game were much higher and shooting percentages were much lower. He also was confined to the paint, and didn't have to go out to the perimeter anywhere close to as much as Jokic does. So Jokic gets less opportunities, but puts up comparable numbers. I don't think it's a stretch to say Jokic is one of the best rebounders to ever play the game. I think he would have a lot more rebounds if he played in the 70s or 80s, and he's averaging 13 right now.
@jake8748
@jake8748 Жыл бұрын
7 play-offs he averaged over 14 (including 1 in ABA) and his career playoff rebounding average is 14. Moses also averaged 5-6 offensive boards through most of his peak and had 20RPG in a post season. Jokers best reb post season would be 9th best for Moses. So no Joker is no where near Moses as a rebounder. He's more comparable to Kevin Love in his Minny days as a rebounder complete with the boxing out and passing on quickly/outlet passing. Plus Moses was a beast on the offensive boards (averaged 10 ORPG in one post season). Jokers a great rebounder but Moses is a horrible comparison.

@jake8748
@jake8748 Жыл бұрын
@chauvintookaknee4blm268 except Moses still beats him in rebounds per 100 possessions too, and any other advanced stat, so that context was also made up stats. Moses is one of the best rebounders ever. You have to be seriously delusional if you think Joker is even top 25 best rebounders of all time. Joker is a better player but this was specifically aimed at his rebounding. Oh also about that pace or whatever. Average rebounds per NBA game during Moses years is all in the same range of 43-47 that current seasons mostly fall in. Moses averaged double Jokers offensive boards per game, more per game by a large amount, higher rebound percentages, more per possession. Joker needs to increase his RPG by around 20% for the next 9 years to get close to Moses averages. That would be unheard of, most big men slow down quickly in their early 30s so I dont see Joker playing better at 37 then he is now. So like I said horrible comparison player on that stat.
