If you look at pre-college me from 2016-2022, you'll see me watch every possible Warrior game plus all other game I'd find interesting. Nowadays, it's hard to keep up with all the Warrior games and the other game I would have found intriguing before. I have two reasons for this: - The Warriors are tough to watch nowadays. I tough it out as much as I can but the drama around them and inconsistencies sucks sometimes. If before I would just stick to that Warrior game; now, I would switch over to other games. - I just have more important things in life than watching basketball. Now I get why not everyone would have "correct" takes and that's because not everyone can watch games. All they could do is look at the scores and possibly highlights if they can

I feel that consistency in making the playoffs and reaching the finals should be considered in a players legacy. While of course raising the trophy is ultimately the final goal, to be at a level where you are consistently beating the best to compete is also an accomplishment in of its self.
@s_ame1135
@s_ame1135 4 ай бұрын
Reaching the playoffs and the Finals is a "team accomplishment" but winning the trophy mostly relies on the best player on that team so no, reaching the Finals shouldn't count on the legacy of a player. I'm a huge Heat fan but I'm not counting their recent Finals runs to Jimmy's legacy alone.
@dragonwolfx77

@@s_ame1135reaching the finals and making it rely just as much on singular player contribution as much as the finals do. Like would the 76ers or nuggets really be where they are at without Embiid or Jokic? Winning the trophy is also just as reliant on the whole team performing. While one player being amazing certainly helps to win, you can’t succeed without your team stepping up.
@guiwhiz
@guiwhiz 3 ай бұрын
People act like basketball isn't a team game. Consistently making it to the post-season requires a good TEAM... the Denver Nuggets is a prime example. With the best player on Earth and that year's MVP the Nuggets still couldn't climb out of the West because Murray and Porter were hurt. Bring them back... presto.... Rings for everyone.

@@guiwhiz Same logic if you reverse it. They're still a good team capable of consistently making it to the playoffs without Jokic but do you think they'll win without him? People act like you just need a good team. You also need a perennial superstar to get the cogs running.
@pewpew9193
@pewpew9193 3 ай бұрын
@s_ame1135 This is the correct take. You need both. If you have a great team & a Top 5 maybe even Top 10 player, you should be contending every year. If you only have one (Dallas)or the other (Sacramento) the margins get so slim that you can only make a rare run because you don't have the capacity to over come anywhere near as much. Luka can have a 48-13-15 Playoff Game & hit a crazy game winner to get you a game, but at some point you gotta have other guys that can step up in a best of 7. Likewise, you can play amazing team ball & steal some games, but when Jokic takes over in the 4th, you gotta have a guy that can match him.

Kind of a KD hot take for you: He would be considered at least three spots higher all time by most if his entire career resume was accomplished with one team, and aside from a select five or so franchises, he would be considered the consensus best player to ever play for that franchise.

About the "watch nba games to understand the league" take, I completely agree. Being italian, i dont get to see many games, so i usually watch highlights when i wake up in the morning. So during these months i was confused about why the Lakers kept losing after the Nba cup. Then this christmas i watched Lakers - Celtics and completely understood that apart from Bron and Davis, that team isnt that much of a deal. So yeah, watch games,people.

I've watched more than a dozen Nuggets games 'post to post' and my brothers... the man is so chill you have to take his pulse. He is TOYING with the best basketball players on Earth. If he wanted to it is not a hot take to say he could average a 40 point triple-double. It is kind of like the Messi v Ronaldo comparison. Christiano is one of the best strikers to play in the last 30 years... Messi is the best to ever lace up the boots and get on the pitch. Embiid is having another great year. I wouldn't trade Joker for Embiid straight up... in fact I wouldn't trade Joker for Embiid and Maxey straight up. The man is as durable as a tank. Nobody... I mean NOBODY can stop him one v one with any consistency. The last player that could do that was Shaq and he couldn't pass, shoot outside, or shoot free-throws to save his life. Joker can do those BETTER than dominate on the blocks and he does that too.

13:38 I think an important piece of context that Jxmmy left out regarding fan viewership/casual fandom is accessibility. Sports are becoming increasingly less and less accessible to the general public as cable deals, streaming packages, less games shown on non-cable tv channels etc cause prices to soar and general viewership to drop and plateau to where only the most dedicated fans can watch regularly since they’re willing to shell out their money for it. It’s not necessarily that the other fans don’t want to watch games, it’s that the barrier to entry is so much higher now and not as many people are willing to pay that cost. Also time-zone differences and limited accessibility to recordings of finished games makes it difficult as well.

As insane as LeBron’s scoring record is, my biggest push back that it will never be broken in our lifetime is that the entire history of the NBA has happened in one lifetime. Literally every single record, regardless of how ‘unbreakable’ we claim it to be, has been set and broken in one lifetime. I have no reason to believe that if we literally double the lifespan of the nba there would not be new records set across the board.

Depending on your age, this makes sense. It won’t be touched in 20 years. That being said, I think that the 11 rings by Russel (8 consecutive might be even more unbreakable), and 55 rebounds from Wilt in a game, are records that COULD stand until the end.
