What we see here, depending on how long this beautiful old bird has been sitting, is probably the result of 200-plus combined hours of work before attempting flight: checking, inspecting, adjusting, cleaning fuel tanks and lines, removing water, lubricating all moving parts, etc. Many probably believe the abundance of smoke at start-up is due to extremely worn piston rings and/or valvetrain components. Nahhh... very, very likely these gentlemen wisely, correctly and painstakingly pulled all her spark plugs out and squirted some oil into each cylinder shortly before start-up (highly recommended before attempting to start any engine which has sat for a long time.) Hearing an old engine come back to life after sitting for years is Gothic. Recently experienced that starting up my 87 Radian which had sat for 31 years. The sound, smell and sight was absolutely intoxicating.

When I was a child one of this thing periodically landed in the backyard of our town’s Hospital. It was a great adventure too see how it takes off.

If the compression is weak , pls machine cylinder liners out from old casted iron sanitary sewage pipes. Proved by experience. And it will work for some time.

The Kamov Ka-26 is one of the koolest and most unique helicopter ever made!

Love those big radials, but best to fly at a height you can survive the fall from. 25' would be ideal!

this thing looks like star wars. i mean it is known that they took inspiration from old aircraft, when making the original trilogy, but this thing genuinely reminded me of r2d2, due to its landing gear. and those pods just are SO friggin star wars
