I Love Kanye West, he's one of my favorites and one of the best artists EVER and I'm glad he's noticed in the mainstream for it but I'm here to represent for the artists who don't get enough credit or attention they really and truly deserve starting with J-DILLA J-DILLA J-DILLA!!! Best and Greatest Hip-Hop Producer and Beatmaker EVER!!! Arguably the best producer/rapper/singer/artist EVER because all he cared about was the MUSIC!!! He's behind and responsible for more classic material and 20+ classic bodies of work which is why he was the most respected, revered and copied artist with at least 2x more than ANYONE you can mention, Kanye, Dr. Dre, Pharell, Timbaland, Rza, etc. and he's been dead since 06!!! Check the history and the stats... Even Drake copied elements and styles from J-DILLA that he used to carry his career and made famous! So Jon Denton, if you really serious and wanna continue discovering Rap & HIP-HOP then get ready to add a playlist of J-DILLA to your channel. I don't want clout or fame, I just want to be your guide similar to your position with Simon, not to be seen or heard but to play the background since MUSIC is my first love and HIP-HOP literally flows and runs thru my veins!!! You can reach me @ instagram.com/maximumsuccess14/ if you're interested in some insight and perspective on this culture we live and love so much called HIP-HOP!!! Thank you for bringing such new light and exposure the MUSIC, such a big fan of YOU, Simon and the channel!!!

Another great video! And another suggestion....you guys always seem to pause the track in the middle of a meaningful bar. In my opinion it'd be better to pause, talk, then go back 10 seconds. You pick such good songs that every line/bar is good. Cheers!

She was gonna run for Congress as a Republican in Compton or something like that. She's definitely conservative.

Why are we not talking about why u can't stay together? Creative differences? So what? That's why u have separate channels. You guys are doing it right already. Look at your channel growth. You guys exploded. And travel? We understand. But don't end the channel..even if it takes awhile between uploads we will live with that. You know??

There were tons of conscious rappers back then, but not so much in the mainstream other than Talib Kweli, Common, and Mos Def.

Yes but the roc-a-fella marketing schtick was that Kanye is “different” to all the rappers out at the time. Many have bought into this and now suggest that Kanye was the only conscious rapper out at the time

@@ladykiller226 Cause this was at the height of gangsta rap with 50 cent at the top of the charts and Ja Rule on the tail end. Mos Def and Talib weren't mainstream and Common was in his own lane as a conscious rapper. So Kanye wasn't the only one but he was one of the more mainstream artists.
@ladykiller226

Ben H all three of those artists released one or more gold certified albums between 2000 and 2004. They might not have been selling at 50 cent level (no one was tbh) but those kind of sales are more than enough to consider them mainstream.
@benh9935
@benh9935 5 жыл бұрын
@@ladykiller226 Common only had 1 of his first 5 albums go gold. His second gold album was Be produced by Kanye. Both Mos Def and Talib were underground artists. Mos Def had just one solo album by the time Kanye was signed to Rock-A-Fella. His second was in 2004 and was certified gold in 2017. And Talib dropped his album in 2002. Only Common reached a wide audience. Talib and Mos Def each had only dropped one solo album each and one collaborative project as Black Star.

Ben H genuinely impressed by your research. I guess I always considered dead prez, immortal technique etc as underground and mos def, common types as mainstream even though they weren’t at 50, Ja rule or Kanye levels. At that top level nas was also a conscious rapper maybe qtip too. Even though there weren’t an abundance of conscious mainstream rappers I’ve never agreed with Kanye being held up as the ONLY mainstream conscious rapper even though he was one of a small number of them
