I am stunned, I didn't know it's so much like Finnish. For an Estonian it sounds like finnish only with some C-s with umlauts I liked the song

I agree that Karelian is beautiful. It has a rich phonology: č, š, ž, dž, z, g, b, d are well represented. It sounds like evaluated, progressed Finnish (if we talk about phonology).

On jah päris kummaline. Aga eks ole tore, kui enam-vähem pooltest sõnadest aru saab.

Terveisiä Santtu Karhulle ja Talvisoville. Mikkelissä olimme katsomassa heitä vuonna 2005. Santtu Karhu lupasi tulla soittamaan, kun joskus menemme naimisiin. :D

It is fine that there are still folks that can sing in this beutiful Karelian - the poor tribe has suffered more than enough for living in an area which became an everlasting battlefield. Those who have nothing to say related to this song - please continue your quarrel elsewhere.

@TheAnitamus Livvic is living language. There is ca. 5 000 person in Finland that speak it and 14 000 in Russia. I dont know the language myself, but plan to learn. And the Karelians as a nation has not disappeared either... Like my family we are living on both sides of the border this day.

@dimuska You are exactly right. Karelians are a tribe of their own. Karjala is the land of song and ancient Kalevala! Pride!

It is probably the other way round. Those sounds are typical for many Fennic languages (e.g. all exist in Sámi) but did not exist in Viking age Scandinavian (some exist in modern Swedish, but the are derived, as shown in spelling: č = tj; š = sj or stj..). These sounds disappeared from modern Finnish and West Karelian probably because of Swedish infuence.

I would like to say something, Karjalaiset, finish and estonians, they seem to be all one nation, and thats what they are. To start a search bout history, and look into dialog lexikon, we all have one- one words, and have lots of them.

@erikandreasnilsson After the war 130 000 Karelians stayed in USSR. Karelians is a nation, they are a bit different from Finnish people.

@TheAnitamus Now I am a bit lost with your text.... Ofcourse they had and have the right to live on both sides of the border and they do. My family (by family I mean may great grand father and his family not all relatives) were quite lucky and survived first the captivity in russian camps and both wars. I personally have not met the relatives behind the border (on the Russian site) but other finns have met them and it was not impossible in the soviet rule either. It was hard but not impossible.

I could imagine playing this song if I were hiking or kayaking in a wild forest. Truly a beautiful song. Does anyone have a translation for this song? I'd really like to understand it.

@Peppepoppldoppl I swam in the river for 100 metres the day before yesterday, and today I had run for 7 kilometres. It's much better than to smoke and drink beer. :-) BTW the water in river is cold - about 12 Cels.

@Peppepoppldoppl probably OS has fatal errors or damaged. Also check hard drives by CHKDSK (if OS = MS Windows). Maybe it's necessary to reinstall OS. BTW have you some antivirus on your PC? (like Kaspersky)

@Peppepoppldoppl “I am educated to the brim…” What a kind of education? Economic? Mathematics? Electrotechnics? Chemistry? tell me for not to be unfounded. “education is a bit.....let's say rotten” - you don’t know at all about Russian education. I don’t know about Swedish education, therefore I don’t write anything about it. Russians first had taken Cosmos, made a lot of nuke weapon and military technics, Russian influence in world science is strong. It’s too much to enumerate.
