4 жыл бұрынSteam-hauled service trains is today not normal at all in Europe but some spots remain where steam locomotives are used on a regular basis, shunting and sometimes venturing on the mainlines, as is the case in a number of collieries, in Bosnia where is video is from can you see the former Yugoslavian Railways classes 33 and the shunting engines 19-12 and 62-125 in the mains around Tuzla and the narrow gauge mainline from Banovici whit the narrow gauge engines 25-30, 55-99 and the 83-159. The tour was arranged by Tanogo Tours from 30 October to 2 November 2019.

The Deutsche Reichsbahn built these in the middle of the war using simpler construction techniques and fewer precious metals as a stripped-down variant of the Class 50 freight locomotive in common use at the time. Even the Germans must be surprised that their service has lasted into this century

In Austria, they were used until 1976. My father was working on such machines for a little time at the end of the 60's.

The worlds most prolific steam locomotive class, the German "Kreigslok" (DR Class 52) with around 21,000 built across numerous countries during WW2. So obviously quite a number are also preserved in a number of countries, in addition to Germany. I drove one at Stassfurt (steam centre), an old DR Roundhouse, with a mile or so of running line, just to the East of the Harz mountains in the old East German zone. The "official driver" was a Dutch Railways driver, who spoke English, but the Fireman was a young German who declared his loco was being invaded by the Allies, im stark Deutsch (in strong German) ! Of course Stassfurt is only a 25 minute drive east, of the famous Harz Mountain Railway (HSB) and its 100km network of steam hauled routes, subsidized by the EU as an official public transport network. The HSB use a fleet of 66tonne 2-10-2T on metre gauge, along with a couple of now extremely rare 0-4-0+0-4-0T Mallet tank locos, in all year round service. One of their lines climbs to the 4,002ft summit (by normal adhesion) of the famous Brocken Mountain. Of course the Harz mountains are probably more famous for the infamous Valpurgis Nacht (Night of the witches) every 31st of April. When for hundreds of years it has been the tradition for all the most beautiful girls in EVERY town and village to run naked through the streets at midnight. This of course attracts around a Million tourists to the area on this day every year ! Re-enactment of the classic play "Faust" on the Brocken mountain top on this day, complete with all the debauchery included (banned in Britain) allows the HSB to operate into the early hours, as its the only way to reach the summit, unless you want to be eaten by mountain lions & wild boar !!!!!

@@krimskrams I don't have contacts I'm afraid, but I do know that a German touring company y have prga used a Plandampf for October this year with all their steam locomotives so they still must be running. They had pretty much all of them out when I went and that was last October the 28th 2021

@@matthewpalmer2049 the details are pretty scarce on the tanago website. the German description reads "as far as they are able to plan it" so it's not even certain that these locos will be operational until that point. there is no price listed either, so I guess they are still waiting for a go ahead or something. I hope I can see it for myself though

@@krimskrams when I went, 2 of the 52s were running, one is in an overhaul and one in for a boiler washout. The 33 was running, and one of the narrow gauge tenders.

In Sweden the last steam locomotives came out of their mobilization shed in 2008 but the last mainline use of steam had been in 1972 and the last industrial use of steam engines had been in 1978. The best steam locomotives had been kept in mobilisation sheds to be mobilized in case of a war in Europe until 1992.

I also think it was wild to see how far it slides. The reason is a mixture of carbon dust and oil that makes the rails smooth and thereby makes the train slide silently away.

So wie es aussieht bremst der Lokführer nur mit der Zusatzbremse der Lok. Sonst wäre ein deutliches Quietschen der Bremssohlen des gesamten Zuges wahrnehmbar . Bei so einer Anhänge-Last für mich unverständlich nicht das Führerbremsventil zu benutzen und Flachstellen an den Radreifen der Lok in Kauf zu nehmen.

as nice as it is seeing theese german ladies still operating. they do look like they are barely cleaned..... in germany you will mainly see perfectly clean steam locos. also that at 2:12 ..... that cant be good for their wheels, keeping them locked and letting them just slide on the tracks

Germany uses steam locos for turistic trains and no tourist would ride any train pulled by a dirty engine.

Are they still in service now (2022) ? I heard recently the last industrial steam in China at Sandaoling has finally ended, and Bosnia is a lot easier and cheaper to get to! I'd love to go and see it

There should still be active driving with steam in the mines around Tuzla and the two railway experience companies Tanago and FarRail Tours are planning an excursion there in 2022. The steam locomotives are only used for shunting in the mines. And about steam in China I am unsure but i believe that the last run of steam in the Sandaoling mine was ending at the end of 2019.

I do not think you have to worry about the climate being a big factor down there, because the coal mined goes directly to the coal power plant in Tuzla as their only energy source and the economy is so bad that it is cheaper to use the steam locomotives than to replace them with diesel :-)

How come at 2:02 the side railes on the seam engine are not moviong but the train is?

Because the other side of the train's cylinder is still working properly, and the side you see at 2:02; the wheels are sliding on the tracks.

@@nightlightabcd its done on locomotives that only get used for shunting. most likely the cylinder on the right of one of their more useable BR52s is busted so they removed it from this locomotive as theres a lack of spare parts

Yes, still. They haul coal to the biggest power plant in Bosnia. They even have a facility where they maintain them so that they will remain in service for years to come.

@@francoiselesensuelite6884 there is not really any access to the mines without permission, but it is possible to see them on the legal side of the gate in Sikulje, and from a small road at the end of the mine in Dubrave. But the runs are very minimal. I was down there with the Tanago Tour who arranged permission and extra shunting and lot of ohter things on the tour.

ClassicGamingDude yes but German Engineering is renowned for their reliability. I think the same mine has an American S100 & those were notorious for firebox issues later in their life

@@neutral1950 Tako je. Ja mnogo volim vozove. Bila sam vrlo mala, ali se sjećam, kada sam putovala iz Bosne za Srbiju sa takozvanim “Čirom”. To se ne zaboravlja. 😁Kada sam došla kod svoje sestre, bila sam sva crna po licu i rukama, jer sam otvorila prozor i gledala prirodne ljepote. Oh bože, kakva sjećanja.

@@Honeydwarf85 cylinder delete. the right cylinder was most likely donated to another locomotive and this ones only used for shunting
