Kate was born July 30,1958. "Wuthering Heights" was released in 1978. She is not a recluse!!! She had one tour in 1979, the Tour of Life, (Europe only, I believe). In 2014 she did a 22 day residency at the Hammersmith Apollo called "Before the Dawn". It sold out in 15 minutes.Oh yeah, she's a musical genius.

@@pamelarobinson7719: Yes, Pamela, that is how it is spelt in the U.K. and many other countries outside of the U.S. The same goes for words like ‘Colour, Favour, Humour, Endeavour, Armour, Behaviour’ etc. We also place the ‘r’ before the ‘e’ at the end of words like ‘Theatre, Centre, Lustre, Calibre, Kilometre, Litre’ etc.

My dad really loved music of all kinds and he had a huge influence on me. I vaguely remember this song from when I was a kid. He loved a haunting tune and this would have been right up his alley too so I don't think I'm imagining it (I was very young in the 80s). I'm not quite sure Kate Bush was as popular in the U.S. as she was in the UK. Anyways 80s music always makes me think of my dad so thanks for the happy nostalgia! 🤗

I became a big Kate Bush fan in the early 80s. I went and bought this album (one of the last albums I purchased before CDs took over my collection) the day it was released. I loved the sound and never thought much about its meaning. Now I know its meaning, it has been like rediscovering this song. Nice reaction.

I hear you, Daz. I first heard Wuthering Heights as a 17-year-old in 1980 and it changed my life. Literally, I was listening to things like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Led Zeppelin… You know, “normal” music. Lol One of my friends was at Boston University at the time and brought back home The Kick Inside and it was a real eye-opener for me. I had never heard anything even remotely close to the music she was putting out. She was also absolutely gorgeous and that didn’t hurt at all. I’ve had a huge crush on her for 2/3 of my life now.

For anyone who was a child in the 1980s like me and visited United States malls they would play this along with MTV at the time. The '80s was such a decadent and Brilliant decade to grow up in the United States. Kate Bush was a Talented Artist from across the pond that many of us loved to listen to, and I was just a small child at the time. I remember this song being played in 1985 at home when my parents had cable MTV and at shopping malls. I think this came out right before Dave was born. Because 5 years later I remember the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990.

Poor Madonna. Tried to stave off becoming the old crone she looked like with plastic surgery which has left her now, resembling one of Victor Frankensteins earlier creations that he botched. Kate however, remains delectable.

This song is so poignant in Stranger Things because the character Max is dealing with trauma and survivors guilt and wishes she could go back in time and trade places with her abusive brother Billy, and die instead of him, which is why she connects with the song so much, ("If I only could, I'd make a deal with God, and I'd get him to swap our places")

When I saw/heard this song in the mid-80's on MTV, I immediately went out and bought the album. I was more into The Jam, The Clash and Elvis Costello, so this was not the type thing that I had been listening to at all. It has a very eerie, haunting vibe that seems to appeal to a lot of people.

I remember this song... Its like Tori Amos is the American Kate Bush. You should listen to the Tori Amos song "Cornflake Girl" although it's not as poppy as this... KB wasn't as big over here as over there but her duet with Peter Gabriel was pretty big over here. [EDIT] This one came out in 1985. And I just checked and she apparently did 3 collaborations with Peter Gabriel, Don't Give Up being the only popular one here.

I really just watched this (presuming it was the same song) because my sister was telling me the story of all the recent hoopla over it because of Stranger Things and wanted to see if it was familiar. She seemed to think I should know it, but it doesn't ring any bells. I probably know 95% of the music they have on the show, so it is somewhat nostalgic to watch. I haven't started ST season 4 yet, but now I'll know the big scene(s) when they happen once I hear this music.

this song has a great music arrangement. Haunting synths, driving drums and Kate's amazing voice made it so special. First I thought unbelievable that song is from 1985 but on my second thought I said to myself "No it's not" That's how musicians did their productions those days - and it was a Charts song. Nowadys there are around 15 music producers who produce most of the charts stuff with same sounds, beats and rythms. Just sayin'

Yes this was pre-recorded like the Whitney Houston American Anthem this was pre-recorded back in probably June. There might have been copyright strikes and they couldn't release this until then today in the last days of August 2022

I think it's great soundtrack song, like a background music song. Which is why it was so great in Stranger Things. I just don't think it's great song on it's own, like it's not something that I'd turn up if it come on the radio, it's a bit meh. The music is just so nostalgic because it screams 80s with that synth sound.
