@@lauchalz1 Yes! That opening commentary from Delia was foreshadowing for real. We are in the middle of a war and climate crisis induced global shortage of grain to feed humans. Why on earth are we continuing to breed more animals? "Next time you hear about food insecurity caused by disruptions in global grain markets, think about this. Cycling grain through animals, which metabolize >90% of it rather than convert to meat, is the most inefficient conceivable use of grain for ultimately creating human food." I'm vegan for the (farmed) animals, but there are so many other reasons like the human cost too.

I'd blame UK culture's historic allergy to seasoning food! No human gets hungry looking at a living lamb. Or gazing upon a lamb twitching, 'freshly' slaughtered (hence why the vegan ad was banned from UK TV recently after airing once, showing a dead cow's face). You are only drawn in by the cooking and seasoning parts. That doesn't really rely on an animal being involved against their will!

It's crazy how Science Fiction vegetarian food was back then: I remember when I ordered mac & cheese with a side salad they'd put crumbled bacon on the noodles. Checking with the service that I'd ordered - and expected - mac & cheese to be vegetarian in the first place, the waitress bluntly rumbled: "Bacon is no meat!". I think the meat and sugar industry went ballistic expecting their income going down the tubes. Still an issue today I think concerning the power of the food industry.

Try just going vegan, it's not much difference. Get a d3 + b12 supplement from amazon. Next time you're at the market try a new vegetable you've never tried before that looks interesting. Try it raw, try it roasted, try it steamed. You really expand your food horizons that way. Always find the ways to make cooking easier for yourself. If you do cooking right it will be easy and effortless. Get some flax or poppy seeds (whole) and either a mortar and pestle or coffee grinder and sprinkle a bit of them ground over whatever you make for all the omega3's you could need. Eating plant-based can have all the flavor and healthfulness you want. The only limitation is your experience and imagination. A grain like rice and a bean such as lentils or chick peas or kidney beans is a good staple to make up 50-75% of your meals. Learn to soak and cook dried beans. You'll get plenty of protein if you eat this way. There's so many options for food ideas. I eat sliced avocado on toast with chopped lekk (sort of like a milder onion) and flax seeds a couple times a week. It has a similar satisfaction to egg salad to me. I could talk endlessly about this but it's a bit much in a comment. Keep learning and exploring. Find some vegan cooking channels that connect with you. Above all HAVE FUN with it! Cooking is a joy for me. And I only spend ~$150/mo eating all the fresh fruit, veg and grains I could want. There's no reason it can't be that way for you too!

Vegetarian cooking has come on leaps and bounds since this was filmed especially in the last 10 years or so, and it's now easy to eat out if you are a vegetarian, whereas it was difficult or even impossible to do so back then. Nellie S Make sure you get plenty of essential fats like olive, coconut and avocado oil. Even butter is fantastic if you're only going vegetarian. These reduce your need for carbohydrates as an alternative energy source. Too many carbs lead to T2 diabetes and inflammation which prompts LDLs to deposit plaque on your arteries. Stay away from processed seed oils high in Omega 6s. Also a cause of inflammation.

@MarquisNoir78 True but if you choose to be a vegetarian for ecological reasons (amongst others of course) you should always focus on local products. I am of course prejudiced against soy because I have an intolerance (probably developed it by eating too much of it in my early twenties) and I think it's overused in vegetarian food. The last time I chose "vegetarian" on a plane I was given a tofu steak, mashed potatoes and a muffin, both containing soy milk. Frustrating!

I absolutely adore Kate Bush; she's classy, a true artist and 100% unique in her musical talents; but looking back at this segment now and with the advanced knowledge of almost 40 years of culinary advancements; this food looks absolutely terrible. It must taste horrific. Chefs must be holding back their gag reflexes.

Wow! What if it was her! I'll look out next time I'm at Castleton! It's not impossible though. My Mum once swore blind that she'd seen Mick Jagger coming out of a shop in Eckington. My Dad told her she was seeing things, then she found out that Mick Jagger's grandmother lived at Eckington and he would visit her whenever he was performing up North!

Kate Bush is beautiful in every way, and good for her for being a vegetarian. I am guessing a vegetarian diet is far more healthy than one packed with red meat, which causes far more health problems than carbohydrates.
@warrenbridges1891
@warrenbridges1891 2 жыл бұрын
newts Last That theory has been completely debunked. Nothing causes more problems than carbohydrates. Whilst excessive protein may induce an insulin spike, moderate levels and saturated fat, are the only macro nutrients which have absolutely no effect on insulin levels. High carb diets as an alternative energy source to fat, is a short wide road to T2 Diabetes. Carbohydrates = sugar and inflame all parts of the body. Including arteries, which depend in the short term on cholesterol deposited plaque for immediate protection. Remove sugar/carbohydrates and all of your problems are solved. I was a vegan. I'm now on a high fat, moderate protein (plus all my veggies) diet. I've not only lost 25 kg, I'm building muscle, I only need one meal a day and I'm over 2 years older than Kate. If you've seen Kate recently, you'll find that a vegetarian diet, along with the necessary carbs to provide energy, has done her no favours. I still love her though.
