When I listen to this I like to imagine this is Tim's daughter singing a cover for him a couple of decades later :)

I tear up every time i hear Tim Minchin sing this song. When he gets to his daughter, it chokes me up every time and i don't even have children of my own. Didn't think someone else singing this would do that to me but I'm blinking tears out as I type this. That was very sweet. It's arguably the most beautiful song Minchin has ever penned, sung by a beautiful lady. Nicely done.

The "you'll be handed round the room like a puppy in a primary school" line gets me every damned time, and makes me awfully sad that my family is awful and my children don't get to experience that.

Life must be hard for those whose can write criticizing comments about a beautiful version of a beautiful song. Thanks for the cover, Kate.

This is the closest thing to an australian christmas carol i think there is.

The first time I heard this song I was visiting Sydney and attending a rehearsal of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir. They had me sit up front next to the director and it was sung so well and in such a heartfelt way that I cried. It was a beautiful moment and since then it’s been a favorite song of mine.

Such an incredibly powerful voice and Kate’s apparent effortlessness reminds me of the brilliant Linda Ronstadt from the ‘60s and ‘70s, even though their ‘styles’ are different. Kate’s voice is so musically seductive it didn’t even matter that the video lip-synch was up the spout.

KM-H is in my top 5 best female voices in Australia, along with Tina Arena, Kate Ceberano, Vanessa Amorosi and Vika Bull - sublime. I rememebr first seeing her singing 'Psycho Killer' at the end of an episode of 'Spicks and Specks' years ago - completely gobsmacked.

lol when I heard "I get freaked out by churches , Some of the hymns that they sing have nice chords but the lyrics are dodgy", I laughed out loudly. I can relate to that lol. I once visited a Catholic Church and was freaked out because of the Catholic Mass.

I'm wondering why she left out the lines that lead up to the refrain change at the end.
