Kate's Pond Update, how to deal with all the MUD! #7

In the last video (#6) I left the pond filling with water. Water continues to be the feature of this video too as there is so much MUD around the area which makes for very unsafe walking. This was the only long term solution, so watch as Anthony, hindered as usual by me, start to make a wooden walkway around one side of the pond, supervised as always by my goose Eileen.

Anthony White has a landscape business and is a dry stone waller too. In fact, I don't think there is anything he can't do! In the next few videos, you'll see some of the plans we hinted at coming to reality. My imagination and his skill and encouragement will see us talking this project in all sorts of amazing directions. Add my friends in the garden, Adam and Arran from Heritage Country Gardening and you can see I have the best team for all these garden projects!

I grew up a tomboy and three other girls and I created quite an uproar when we declared we wanted to take shop class versus another year of home economics. Best decision I ever made as there's very little that I won't attempt to tackle. 🙂

@@moonlightcrafter6299 yes, you won't regret that decision. My dad wanted a son but got me so I was always encouraged to help with whatever DIY jobs he did; he was a hands on man. I'm pleased of that now, even though at the time I didn't appreciate the lessons. ☺

I get the feeling that Eileen's heart is full of gratitude as she swims around the pond. Regardless of how muddy it is, it takes some strength to pound those 4x4's and Anthony does it like it's toothpicks ... wow! I am so happy to see Eileen sharing her pond with you! As for your decking skills, there's no doubt if you can keep a sewing machine in working order and maintain 1/4 inch seams that those decking boards were going to be flush.

This is an absolute joy Kate! What a wonderful place it’s going to be just to sit and watch the world go by! You’re efforts have certainly pleased a certain goose! I recall having a pussy-cat as a d site manager when we were building our workshop - they can certainly be exacting bosses! The new walkway will save a lot of muddy feet and be lovely to walk on and rest at the new landing. Eileen is one very special lady to have the pond to herself.

What an amazing habitat (for those critters) and peaceful, natural environment (for Eileen and yourself) is being created. Once the wooden decking blends in and the landscape grows around the edges it'll look like it's always been there. Nice to see you and Anthony sat having a well-deserved cuppa!

One of the things I like the most about all of your videos is the lack of pretension. You are who you are and do what you want. My sister who is in her eighties says one of her greatest pleasures is doing things that people say she can’t or shouldn’t do at her age. I think it runs in our family, independence at its finest. Can’t wait to see the finish of the pond.

Reading the comments, I see many have reacted like I did.... I just have to smile whenever I see Eileen. She must be thinking, "Yes, my servant Kate has given me a very nice gift here!" She just looks so happy. I've also smiled when several have said "Us old ladies"" cause I see you in the prime of life, not old! I just turned 80 and I know how much life is still in THIS for-real old body! You are becoming the Martha Stewart of the UK.... can do anything!

I mow our lawn and the folks that pass usually do a double-take when they see a woman sitting on the tractor!
