I think she is highly overrated as an actress. She did a few good ones, there was that one scene in on Golden Pond, that was pretty cool where she tells Henry Fonda to get on his horse and ride, that gave me goosebumps, but all in all she was just an average actress.

@@debbiepowers4743 A mannered and overrated actress. Highly pretentious. No Tallulah or Ethel Barrymore. A notorious WASPy snob. Ever hear the story Jane Fonda tells about Hepburn and Michael Jackson. Apparently Hep hated Blacks so when Jane brought Jackson onto the set Hep was super polite. She probably thought he`d never make it. LOL!!!! Elizabeth Taylor knew. Liza Minnelli too. Shevey too. LOL! Jackson`s manager lived in Riverdale then a `restricted` neighborhood. Jackson and Janet and one or two of the others used to take the Riverdale coach as did I as we lived in Ludlow on Hudson. The coach driver pointed them out one day and said `Do you know who they are? The Jackson Five. They are going to be SO BIG!` I have never forgot it.

Kids are definitely not for everyone! Dolly Parton, Jennifer Aniston, Katharine Hepburn all made the conscious decision not to have children because they wanted to focus on their careers. That is not selfish, it is selfless. Too many “working women” in Hollywood had kids , ill-prepared to raise them properly , to devastating consequences. Joan Crawford, Shirley MacLaine, Carol Burnett, Debbie Reynolds, Bette Davis, Judy Garland, among others.

How judgemental you are! Tracy lived separately from his wife even though they never divorced. Hepburn and tracy took great care not to be seen together in public. Despite taking a 5 year career break to look after tracy in his failing health until his death, Hepburn did not attend his funeral out of respect for his wife and family. I think that shows a lot of class and respect.

Was this women on the spectrum before it was well known as a medical/genetic predicament? I don’t mean this disrespectfully but her rudeness and abrasiveness doesn’t come off as arrogant as much as the workings of a deeply methodical, analytical mindset that genuinely does not “need” connection as she figured out it’s logically insane or something. I get the sense of a deeply introverted brilliant mind not phased by the normal rigamarole of human relationships. Her “co habitation” with Spencer Tracey felt more like two good friends forced into a union to hide her closeted lesbianism. It was sort of a bizarre setup as she even said they slept on opposite sides of the house. She eschewed dresses and feminine wiles and seemed supremely confident almost bordering on narcissism. Again, no salaciousness or cattiness on my part. Just genuine wonder based on observations. Her prickliness and sense of distance was remarkable to me. Not necessarily a “snob” at all. Just someone who logically figured out that relationships are “meaningless” and deeply private. Her sign on her house said it all and it’s not endearing at all. Just someone who appeared to lack good will toward her fellow neighbors. Bordering on misanthropy. Also, Howard Hughes was probably a “chum” of hers like a male drinking buddy that they concocted to appear as though it was a dalliance. I just don’t believe it. I think Hepburn was a total lesbian. Period. That’s why she gets so hostile when he comes up as he did in the Barbara Walters interview. 🤷‍♂️

I'm a Katharine Hepburn fan who's in her late 20s and has seen many of her interviews multiple times, so I like to think I know her pretty well. I mean no disrespect as it seems you do have good intentions, but you are stereotyping here. Just because a woman doesn't like to wear dresses or sleep in the same bed as her lover doesn't make her a lesbian. Many healthy relationships involve people who don't sleep in the same bed. My great grandparents did that and they were happily married for over 50 years before they passed away. She grew up around feminists and I can totally see her wanting to wear pants instead of dresses as a statement. I think if Miss Hepburn was a lesbian trying to make people believe she was straight she would have chosen a fake boyfriend she could be seen with publicly. She also probably wouldn't have wanted to disrespect Spencer, his wife (whether alive or after they passed) and their family by lying and saying she and Spencer were lovers. She liked to do things that didn't sit well with people, so I think if she was a lesbian she wouldn't have hidden that. That being said, she also loved her privacy so if she had been romantic with women she could have kept it to herself, but I still don't think she would have lied about Spencer. Just because she was introverted and spoke her mind doesn't mean she was on the spectrum, but I suppose she could have been. I also don't think she thought connection was logically insane. I think she was a very independent woman who valued connection in doses... why else would she find interviews like this fun and always welcoming friends over for dinner etc? She was ahead of her time in many ways and I think she simply just wanted to do things the way she wanted to do them. Again, no disrespect. It's hard to tell the tone when we're conversing through text... I just think your point of view seems old fashioned, so I wanted to shed some light.

God, I think the same too. In the Dick Cavett interview, he asks her if she’s ever shared an apartment with someone. And she seized up like a clam, got so defensive. I suspect he was referring to how she lived with female companions at different points in her life. And I agree with her possibly being on the spectrum. Her being so particular about certain things, not giving a f about certain others. Her strict routine, her becoming a chainsmoker overnight , her playing tennis for hours in her what? Seventies? Idk about misanthropy though. I think the “hermit” thing is part of the act. She obviously loves being adored (as she says in this clip about the neighbors and truck drivers) I mean it’s not in her constitution to do press? She went around town with a gibbon hanging off her neck. She’ll walk around the studio in her undergarments for taking away her slacks! I do think she loves people and attention and being interviewed. (Just how many are there of her in her old age lmao) Hence this “opening up” towards her later years (esp also now that most of her friends are dead and cannot call out her bs if we assume Tracy wasn’t really a fling of the normal hererosexual kind) And to the other reply, the wearing slacks/androgynous figure and unconventional lifestyle Are not the Only reasons why people think she might have been attracted to women. There’s so much else that points to her possibly being “queer” but of course it’s only speculation of course. Hepburn was always very astute about her public image. (Who else bounces back from being a declared Commie traitor to beloved American treasure?) and most people would rather believe in the narrative Hepburn wanted them to believe in.
