I agree with you, she's a horribly unlikable and annoying character, but essential for the plot and especially a real, consistent and well written character. She is so superficial, that it's good, seeing this behaviour from a third perspective in a situation that you have no control over is "refreshing". It's rather hard to analyse her imo, so this is a well-made and rather accurate analysis :)

I could never explain my experiences more accurately then "Evil disguised as an angel", I will eternally cherish this manga and how it doesn't romanticize egomaniacs(*cough*cough* MCU TONY STARK*cough*cough*). Nor do they say "but they CAN/ARE good REALLY REALLY DEEP INSIDE", the sad reality is some people are born and live scum who just CANNOT AND WILL NOT POSITIVELY CHANGE. More so how no one can "fix" them, and how there literal poison to everyone around them. Gosh now that you got me thinking about it I need to re-read the manga again. Thanks!!🤗

Ueno when forced into an apology to Shouko "Back in elementary school, I totally failed to understand you, I think that was the reason I came to hate you, so I attacked you, but you didn't understand me either, so I attacked you (...) I don't think the feeling I've held towards you was a mistake, but now, the past is in the past, I hate you, you hate me, I believe we can make peace when supported by mutual hatred." Kawai when forced into an apology to Ishida "I'm sorry, but it's your fault too Ishida! Trying to intimidate me in the classroom of all places, if it bothered you so much you shouldn't have bullied anyone in the first place!" At first, both seem similar, with Ueno and Kawai blaming the other person for what happened. However, Ueno admits that she did wrong too, tries to reach some understanding with Shouko and make some sort of peace. Whereas Kawai immediately tries to shift all the blame onto Ishida and plays the victim card to deny any responsibility for what happened to Shouko (which Ueno calls her out on). Enough said.

@Cold Kawai is basically your everyday bystander. When bullying's being done, they all laugh at the person being made fun of (even if they are not part of the bullying itself), but when something serious happens they play the "I had nothing to do with it" card when they're actually responsible too for letting it happen. So it's hard for them to change because they aren't even aware of the damage they did themselves (though Kawai does show some signs of guilt towards the end when she changes back to using her glasses).

@christianwehner5565 5 жыл бұрын
Narcissist is a deeply misunderstood idea. People with the dramatic cluster personality disorders (Borderline, Histrionic, Narcissistic and somewhat anti-social) have a deeply unstable sense of self. Most people don't recognize that they have a relatively solid sense of self. If they do something in alignment with their self image or in contrast to it, they can frame the situation accordingly either being upset with themselves or proud of themselves. The level or response will dictate the amount of emotion and effort toward correcting the deviation or reinforcing it thus bolstering the cohesive self. Narcissists don't have this, they tend not to have any concrete sense of self, when someone call you selfish, you may feel bad but part of you resists, pulling up and idea that that is not the kind of person you are. A narcissist can't do this effectively. What someone says or an experience of abandonment or criticism becomes an all encompassing hole. They are nothing but selfish, there is nothing but that void. This results in a constant need for reinforcement because any positive feeling can collapse at any moment into a void of emptiness. The pain is too great to withstand let alone endure for the sake of others slight discomfort, which is how they see it because how else can you. That said, Kawai can't be a Narcissist

The movie made Kawai out to be a contributor to the "bystander effect". This usually involves the mindset that "I wasn't directly involved, it wasn't my fault." As well as "someone else will do something, why should I have to?" It doesn't excuse her behavior, but it did lessen the effect of her character change at the end.

The Manga made me hate her the most. She thought that she knew how Nishimiya felt, that she felt the same pain. The biggest scene in the Manga that pointed this out to me was when Nishimiya said she wanted to continue the movie, she smacks Nishimiya then continues saying "we've been worried about you" and continued saying about how she knows how she feels, that she's been bullied too (neither of those are true) and then once she's done Sahara says to Nishimiya is sign language "I'll tell you what she said later." Shows me that she couldn't even care enough to keep in mind why Nishimiya was bullied.

You hit the nail on the head with this Analysis! Kawai is the most repulsive character of the group, however she is most likely destined for a life of unhappiness and misery. As much as I disliked the fact that Mashiba and her ended up together at the end of the story, I don't think the relationship will last. Mashiba is a little misguided, but a genuinely good guy, and is dedicated to being a teacher and once Kawai realizes that, she will inevitable dump him/cheat on him and then blame him for not being there for her or putting her needs first. Narcissist Manipulators are never truly happy and are just as self destructive as people as people who hate themselves and cause self harm. They don't want to be wrong, so most of them never get the psychological help that the need. That's also probably why her character never changes, because people like her in real life very rarely do. And the older she gets the more she will victimize herself and will be always be unsatisfied with every little thing that goes wrong in her life. Not showing her learning anything from the whole experience in the manga/anime is another way of showing the viewer that this unhealthy vicious cycle with probably stay with her for her entire life.

Have to admit, you are pretty much right about Miki. She is rather annoying with her narcissistic ways, of course making her a very hated character, that sometimes represents the worst of humanity. However you are right that she is rather well written & realistic character, and while I dislike her narcissistic tendencies, I can relate to her to a degree, because sometimes we can be very self-absorbed and don't take criticism very well. Her thoughts can be disturbing, while she did the least amount of damage during the bullying, but to think she thought to herself that she did no wrong to Nishimiya, its goes being pathological. To a point that she manages to make Shouya's accident and Shouko's suffering be about her instead, although at the final chapter with Nagatsuka she may have moved past that (so maybe she did changed a little or gotten over it?) but who the hell knows. I kinda wonder how everyone just quickly accepted her even after the whole debacle, I mean I don't know if Ishida forgave her for what happened after the whole school then accident (maybe he forgave her after she gave him paper cranes, or because she worked hard on the class film everyone worked on).

Thomas Fernandez I'm honestly not so sure why she was forgiven so easily either, tho I will say she may not be blamed by those involved as she is by a 3rd party viewer. Ueno blamed herself and Nishimiya, Nishimiya blamed herself, Ishida blamed himself, the cast has a bad habit of doing that. Haha.

I argue Kawai was the worst of those who bullied Shōko. She used Psychological Abuse since Kindergarten and Mental Abuse has the potential to be more Dangerous than direct and Physical Abuse. The seed of her Abuse had really taken root in Shōya’s Mind and had been festering and growing for Years since Shōko was transferred, blaming himself for literally everything that had happened to her and thus attempted to commit Suicide since he felt he couldn’t live any longer with such Guilt that everyone involved placed on him

I watched this movie at a rather young age, and didn't really catch onto how manipulative her behaviour was. I thought she was just a nice girl, it's just that she inhaled with an open mouth, and it was Nishimiya's mistake to start singing. It's just that she's clearly working hard, and can't learn sign language, which was Nishimiya's fault for expecting her to work even harder for something she doesn't need. It's just that she didn't wanna step on others' toes, and felt really hurt by Ishida's words, and wanted to call him out for the bad things he did, long after the bullying ended, and him and Nishimiya made up, besides, it was Nishimiya's fault anyway for demanding protection, and being so susceptible to bullying, and not telling Kawai that it's fine. It was Nishimiya's fault for trying to kill herself. I found myself sympathising with Ueno and Kawai far more, than Nishimiya and Ishida, I thought the first was misunderstood, and the second was nice, while the third was pathetic, and the fourth was a whiny bully who got what he deserved. I found myself blaming the two characters who I saw myself in, rather than the ones, in whom I saw my "friends". Those friends that never stood up for me, never helped me, and talked dirt about my bullies, long after said bullies left our school. Those friends that participated in the bullying, enabled it, just because the bullies were older "cooler" kids, and they wanted to be friends with them. I was weird, I was disgusting, I deserved the bullying. Only after rewatching the film a year or two ago I realised that Kawai wasn't as good as I thought she was. Only after binging a few of the analysis videos on this movie I realised how much I clung to the idea of Kawai and Ueno being good people, because I wanted my "friends" to be good people. It's a very strange feeling. I hope whoever's reading this never has to deal with harassment of that variety, and has a nice day. Stay safe.

I...haven't read Koe no Katachi (AND I WILL), but I just watched the movie. And may I say...this analysis was spot ON! In the beginning of the movie I kept a good eye on Kawai as the other kids bullied Nishimiya, and having been bullied, while having seen others being bullied, it struck me (I'm in tears at this) the instant she immediately claimed of never bullying Nishimiya, because in my head I was screaming that she did. To think I had looked at her the moment she first appeared and thought - "Oh, thank GOD! Finally a nice character!" I even looked past the fact that she was a child at the time, and was scared to speak up, but to refuse that you made a mistake, that your 'silence' was hurting Nishimiya, even as a teenager?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? For a good while, I couldn't stand Ueno (still kinda can't), but her crude honesty was a trait I could actually tolerate and like, despite her awful selfishness and refusal to accept the change that had occurred since Nishimiya's arrival. But Kawai...she really was a despicable character. Of course, she may have accepted her faults, but of all the characters, of all the 'You haven't changed' moments in this movie, she's THE ONE who hasn't changed.

Aside from putting the blame on other people, she invalidated Nishimiya's feelings. That latter part was shown when Nishimiya met Kawai and Mashiba at the park. I'm glad that they're both happy to see her alive, but Kawai invalidated Nishimiya's feelings by saying something along the lines of "everyone else is suffering, like you" (or something... just read the text at 7:22 of this vid), like... That will just make the suicidal person feel worse! Personally, no one has said that to me (because I still haven't told anyone about it), but when I try to make myself feel better by saying that, I just feel worse.
@TheAnimeDude
@TheAnimeDude 7 жыл бұрын
Hey, You! Kawai is self absorbed, and thus she wasn't just invalidating Nishimiya's feelings, but rather projecting her own feelings onto her as she spoke to herself. She says Nishimiya isn't the only one suffering because Kawai victimizes herself, and thus sees herself as just as much a victim as Nishimiya. (Not accurate, I know, just how she sees things I guess.) If you ever feel depressed, you definitely shouldn't think about how everyone is suffering, as that'll undoubtedly make things worse. 😅 Instead, focus on the bright points in life, however bleak they may seem. Happiness is like glass. Even when it's there, its not always easy to see, you just have to change your perspective a bit to be able to see it. 😊

The Anime Dude ...She's the worst kind of person to be around with irl. Her personality and way of thinking is just so toxic... I'm just so glad that I don't have anyone like her in my life, or else... I might be 6 ft. underground rn. And, well, yeah... I tried to change my perspective on things, but there's just those days where it suddenly comes back full force, and I just try to get the thoughts out of my head... It lasts for a day or two, but after that, I'm back to normal... Then it will come back again. It worries me because it's enough to put my thinking into doing. I did a schedule, once, just like Shouya, but I never got around to doing it. I almost did, though...

As I saw some people talking about Ueno being supposedly worse, let me explain why she’s definitely not: Ueno when talking to Nishimiya said “I didn’t try to understand you well, but you didn’t try to understand me either.” She accepts that she was wrong. She accepted what she did. Meanwhile Kawai though, she was the “laugh and go along” in the bullying and shrugged all the blame on Shouya, and omitted what she did when she SHOUTED FOR THE WHOLE CLASS about when Nishimiya was bullied. Ueno was an ignorant and impulsive girl but eventually had a great development in her own way, understanding and accepting Nishimiya’s personality and learning sign language. Meanwhile Kawai never apologized, she started and ended as the fake, backstabbing narcissistic and she will never change. I feel kinda bad for Mashiba tbh and rlly hope those two break up because he doesn’t deserve dealing with her. (Mashiba if u break up with Kawai hmu)

Kawai is the more hatable character becuase of how fake she is but I wouldn’t say Ueno should get any credits for being openly awful. Even in her attempt for character development she still puts the blame on the victim of her bullying and she had physically assaulted Shoko and victim blames her. Just because she’s more honest about being a bad person doesn’t make her “less bad”

@@WeiYinChan honestly but atleast she knows what she did was bad but doesnt care cause i think whats important for her is just i guess her friends back then. Ima guess the whole bullying incident affected her too, cause now looking at it she didnt seem to have friends after that. I guess she started to blame her, but she also knew what she did was wrong instead of putting the blame shouya unlike kawai. Two she also defended him when kawai started making shit up. She also had some source of character development. at the end i would say shes less bad although she was hella messed up. Idk Kawai just makes me mad asl.

I agree, and while the movie & manga both put that theme to good use, I think it’s something I didn’t truly appreciate until I analyzed Sahara (which was after Kawai.) Definitely something important to consider when talking about Kawai’s role in the narrative tho. She’s far from perfect, but they all forgive her and move on in the end, Ishida included. There’s something significant about that.. God I love Koe no Katachi. Haha.

I have always considered Kawai as what most of us are like, honestly. We think we'd do so much different in the bullying of someone like that, but a lot of us would fall right in line without even realizing. That was why I hate Kawai as well. I have a very similar person in my life who had mentally damaged pretty much everyone in my family but steadfastly maintains their victimhood. When asked why they were verbally abusive and even physically abusive the excuses they came up with were so flimsy and yet the fact that they steadfastly believed in their innocence made most of us doubt our own memories. Even when things had only happened a week before. So no matter what people say, I find Ueno a much more interesting character because she actually is capable of change. She recognizes her faults and is disgusted by herself, and yet without a support system she finds it near impossible to actually change. Yet she tries all the same and I very much thing that going to Tokyo with Sahara will do her psyche a lot of good. Because at the end of the day, most of her impulsiveness will mellow out with age and experience. Kawai on the other hand, never changed. Oh she somewhat recognized her faults to a brief extent at the end, but to me it felt like she only did it because it was what was expected of her after Ishida's accident. It would take completely tearing down everything that she is and stands for before a narcissist like Kawai could actually change for the better; and frankly I don't think she's capable of that.

CeruleanRogue that doesn’t make sense to me because ueno didn’t change and age didn’t change her impulsiveness because she’s still the same. I don’t understand the idea that just because you acknowledge you’re a bad person then still do the same thing makes you better. Literally hitting someone when you have no reason to makes you better. She did all of this because she thought shouya loved someone else it was that petty. She even says something like “if he doesn’t love me he’s better off dead” in the manga that’s the person that’s better because she’s straightforward? Both are horrible but to say she’s better is unbelievable.

I like her part in the story but I find the comments to be a little jarring. No, she is not the true villain of the story, she isn't the reason everything went to shit. Arguing that she's to blame for the bridge scene could easily be said about Ishida's self hatred. If anything, I'd argue that Kawi's flaws are the most relatable, and that's what makes people uncomfortable about her. People love to say they weren't at fault, using whatever mental gymnastics they can, but the simple fact is if you do nothing to stop the bad things happening in front of you then you ARE at fault.

First: Thank for your great analysis of the characters of this great movie/manga. Also I noticed with Kawai in the classroom-scene where Ishida gets blamed for all of the bullying, how she took off her glasses before she started to cry. She did that, because she didn't want to get them dirty from the tear drops from her eyes. That again shows, how her crying was a total act she put on and that she had planned to cry, so she can play innocent.

Also even if Kawai didn't do that whole thing of telling everyone in the classroom of Ishida of what he done before, it would changed the series into a different direction but it wouldn't be the same, for one thing, it wouldn't have made Nishimiya realize that she was being selfish and still be suicidal and Ishida would still feels so worrisome and hold back on his past and still feel like he hasn't atoned. And it wouldn't have propelled to have Nagatsuka and Sahara move forward further. Because of Kawai, it helped the series moved forward, for the better.

If you watch the manga, you'd know she's the real "consistent bitch" throughout the whole manga series. She's one of those typical backstabbing bitch who always try pick the side more favorable to her. Kawai reminds me so much about my older brother, the definition of narcissism, as well as manipulation of other's behavior through self justifying , even fooling herself that she truly is the victim from the bottom from her heart, unable to realize her own mistake. This behaviour portrayed such realistic personality that reflect people in real world so much. That's what make her so unlikable, because she is too real, too similar to many people in reality. By far my least favourite character in the whole series. PS: I actually didn't dislike her that much when I first watched the movie because the movie doesn't give her enough screen time to show how terrible her personality is. The manga took its time demonstrating every aspects about this disgusting character. That's why I dislike her even more after reading the manga.

Thanks buddy for doing this video from what I requested last Character Analysis. Its really true there are a lot who are alike Kawai-san it is so realistic. These characters were like based on real life though. The way of their attitude it just feels like it's showing the reality of each person's perspective in their lives. Her realistic personality for some reason annoys me. I have gone through a lot of these people and some oddest reason I like it. I like the way I can see billions of personalities and attitudes through going by people. Again of course its your opinion and we almost have the same way we see Kowai. Kawai is the exact type of person I fear I might be. When I was a kid, I was a self-centered jerk. I didn't exactly bully others the same way Shouya did to Shouko, but I did so in a more passive way like talking about them behind their backs. I didn't like to spread rumours even then but me and my close friend always openly talk about people we hate together. Most of the people who we talked bad about maybe didn't even see it as bullying, maybe because they didn't know what I've even said, but what I did was still so so wrong and immature. I also frequently shift blames to others and I even talked about my friends badly sometimes, I was also overconfident and had a superiority complex around everyone. Especially since I was well liked by teachers, my classmates, and I got really high grades. And I can also speak English in a non English speaking country. There was an incident in my life where it shattered my life view on me being this perfect person, basically I made a mistake at school and the teacher got mad at me for it. It made all of my confidence shatter, but my superiority complex and tendency to blame others stayed, albeit in more subtle ways since I don't say those things outwardly anymore but I know I still have bad thoughts. I'm trying my best to improve but I'm a bit lost. I remember watching A Silent Voice when it released and now I'm coming back to it because the message resonated with me more than I thought. I hope I can have my own redemption.

I just watched the film yesterday (I know, I’m super late to the game). Afterwards, I felt a strong need to discuss Miki with someone - or at least listen to someone else analyse her character. Because boy oh boy, do I dislike her. I think everything you just said in this video rings very true. I’m still struggling with the frustration that the film left me with, because while I absolutely loved the movie in its entirety, it still bothers me so damned much that Miki was never truly forced to admit her wrong-doings, not even to herself. The scene where she ‘outs’ his past in front of everyone, after Shoya desperately tried to get her to lower her voice, saddened me to an extent even I was surprised by. In like five seconds, she tore down everything he built up, after YEARS of depression and loneliness - which she must’ve been at least partly aware of, as she was in the same class as him. He is so shocked and decimated by this that he literally gets sick. The “apology” she later offers him is a damned joke, too. She is still utterly refusing to admit that she’s in the wrong. And in the end, Shoya apologises to ‘her’ for saying mean things?? He is a much bigger and better person than me, I’ll tell you that. I would’ve struggled to even look at her at that point. Ueno was awful, too, on multiple occasions, but at least she ‘knew’ she was a bully. She never tried to downplay that, and her reason for never apologising to Shoko was that she was straight up mad at her. Arguably not rightfully so, but still. For some reason I respect that more, than Miki’s complete refusal to admit she had anything to do with it, and her total lack of empathy for Shoya. I, too, am completely disgusted by her - while I still agree that she is an incredibly well-written and realistic character. I think I’ll always be frustrated that she was never truly forced to face her sins in the film. To be blunt, it feels like she “got away with it”. (I might read the manga, too, to get a better sense of what happened in the original story.) thank you for this video. It was a satisfying watch, after huffing and puffing on my own all day yesterday.

The first time Ishida called her out, when they were kids, I believed Kawai was actually innocent. But after watching this, and watching the movie two more times, I see now that your explanation showed me that she is a narssistic bully, who looks out for her own interests and makes her self out to be the "wrongly accused" one, seeing as how she makes a huge deal out of being accused of bullying Nishimia. She tried manipulating Ishida in a sense to make him and everyone else think she wasnt in the wrong, and she was "only trying to help", only to be called out halfway through the movie, which, lets be honest, gave me a lot of satisfaction. But, this video made extremely good points, so thank you for making this.

As someone who unfortunately has experiences with Narcissists. Your assessment that Kiawi is one, is 100% correct. Reading the moment where she hypocritically denies any involvement in the bullying. And humiliated shouya in front of his classmates to fish for pity and attention is not only a direct case of gas-lighting. (When an abuser attempts to manipulate there target via humiliation, bending the truth/reality, deflection of blame, and falsely earned guilt-tripping) it sent chills down my spine and washed over numerous memories I've had with people like her. I've been in Shoya's shoes more then once when it's comes to him and Kiawi's dynamic. I love how someone pointed this out, thank you, considering my memories of those people are still so fresh. I've had to put down the manga a few times just to brace myself cause I knew what she was gonna say and do. Reviewing those memories in my head, this just shows how emotionally raw this story is. It's so close to my heart and rarely do fiction tackle this topic accurately and head on. I seriously have to re-read the manga now.

Okay so kawai is the main antagonist. Gotcha 👌👌good vid
@TheAnimeDude
@TheAnimeDude 7 жыл бұрын
Sammy Sung PAD I wouldn't necessarily call her an antagonist. The true antagonist for this show is the lack of understanding between people. Kawai's narcissistic personality makes it hard for her to genuinely get along with others, Ueno's flaws cause both Nishimiya and Ishida to suffer at different instances, Mashiba hated people he seemed to be bullies without trying to understand them (at least at first), Nagatsuka places Ishida on a pedestal without understanding anything about him or his past, and Nishimiya's inability to hear and understand how others feel also causes issues, etc. The cast is full unique individuals who are always affecting each other in one way or another, whether they realize it or not. And wow, this comment is way longer then I thought it'd be when I started typing. Haha. Thanks for watching, glad you liked the video! 😁👍🏻

I feel like theres a scene in a manga that perfectly shows how fake miki kawai is from vol 1 that no one talks about, because when everyone accused shoya, he tries to also blame miki, and you can see that she gets mad and instantly changes her mood and starts crying, and it always pisses me off (page 124)

Amazing as always! I respect you for the fact that you were able to delve so deeply into a character which disgusted you , instead writing her off as someone insignificant out of hatred (pretty much what i did with kawaii) . Her actions and personality did indeed affect those around her massively and when you consider how common people like her can be , it really added to the movies realism. I was wondering , besides the characters from koe no kotachi , do you plan on doing any of these character analysis videos for any other series?

Despite the fact that i find her action is toxic most of the time but i cant deny she is still a one of many factors that help ishida move on to reconnect with other. I think there is still somewhat genuine in how she treat others just that she not a typical "friend" material who can go with you through hard time, just good time only. Because the movie indicated that no character have fixed personality so i dont judge on her character just her action (havent read the manga yet).Her character problem havent resolved yet in the movie which is a good "un-intended" node since her problem need another 90' and an array of characters who have strong mentality (and inreal life it might just never get resolved at all :))

I loved this video, I also had a person in my life who acted almost exactly like Kawai. They would always put blame on everyone else even when they were the ones who caused the drama/ problems. They were a little worst then Kawai though, they would tell a completely different story to make themselves look better. They would talk shit about everyone to me, but then act buddy-buddy to them. In the end, after the friendship was completely over, they talked shit about me to everyone in highschool. Making me out to be a completely bad guy who made their life horrible and them being the "helpful, mature" friend. I've put up with this person for 4 years, people like this hardly ever change. To this day they continue to lie and manipulate. Awesome video and great points! :)

I was probably a bit too harsh on her towards the end, so I’m glad the analysis still holds up somewhat. I added a bit more of my thoughts on her to the end of the Nagatsuka Analysis, but basically... I think she’s important for portraying the importance of self-love, despite whatever flaws we may have.

I think i was very much like her in the past. I feel like I've changed, HOPEFULLY i have.. A very similar situation happened when i was in middle school. A kid was bullied and I acted exactly the way kawai did ( specially when i was called out for it. i didnt cry but i shifted all the blame on everyone other than myself, even the victim). Im really proud of and happy for that kid becuz even tho he was bullied for something he couldn't help he stood up for himself and got an adult involved. It didnt completely stop the bullying but it reduced it by alot. I hope he's being his happy cheerful self somewhere safe and nice now. And now years later i watched kawai and immediately felt so repulsed by her. But on the other hand could relate so much to her that i felt like i could understand her. It was a weird disgusting and confusing feeling along with an hour of self reflection and flashbacks to middle school.

Very well made analysis! I completely agree with most of the things you have said. That's what narcissists do. They try to manipulate others by playing on their flaws. They manipulate in order to victimize themselves and recieve attention whilist bringing others down in the process. That is Kawai's major flaw. The complete inability to feel empathy due to her narcissistic and self-absorbed nature prevents her from developing any kind of humility that allows her to learn from her mistakes and seek redeemption like Ishida. The reason the characters on Koe no Katachi were great is because they all had some sort of flaw that is far more complex than what we can easily assume. This is what brings their characters to life. The author did an amazing job to demonstrate how seeking redemption is different depending on the individual. And that everyone struggles to forgive themselves because of their personal flaws. No matter how disgusting Kawai's hypocricy is. She serves to reinforce and complete the main idea of "what it takes to seek redeemption" in the series. And from Kawai's character. We can learn that in order to positively develop by forgiving/accepting ourselves, we must be willing to have humility and take responsibility for our imperfections.
