@@sunsetsportbikes9435 it is completely stock as of now. It does seem to get a little bit better as the carbs warm up though, was just wondering if it was a issue that could be fixed. The only other issue I have with it is getting it to start sometimes. It feels like my choke is very touchy and it will only start with the exact right amount of choke. Could this be my air mixture screws? For reference I rebuilt the carbs, and for a while this issue went away, but recently it has been back.
@sunsetsportbikes9435
@sunsetsportbikes9435 3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelhaley4524 yes from factory they did had a dead spot in the mid range. Air fuel screws are supposed to be turned out 2.5 turns if I'm not mistaken. As for the choke circuit, the air fuel screw could play a part in it but also, bad fuel filter letting trash by clogging the carbs up more, dirty air filter. The dead spot can be fixed, aftermarket jet kit, full exhaust and a +4 ignition advance. It will smooth it out

Hi from the UK. Thanks for the video. I have running issues (won't idle, runs on 3 cylinders maybe) since bike been sitting for couple years, with me starting it & letting it run up to temp once a month. It sounds like fuel jets are blocked to me, so can I just clean these from the float bowl rather than taking the other side apart? Also as I'm mainly using cleaner on the jets ok to use brake cleaner, as I don't have carb cleaner? Thanks

While riding or just free reving? Need to take the airbox off and rev it. Make sure all the slides are going up. Make sure they will go all the way up and not get stuck. Sounds like a air and possible fuel delivery problem. If you move the slides with your finger it should sound like... well I can't think of a thing to compare it to haha.. but they shouldn't just go up and back down without a noise. Almost like air moving and squishing.

I recently bought a 2000 ZX7R that was in need of some TLC, bike starts up pretty easy and seems to run ok BUT the bike was stinking my garage up BAD every day with fuel smell with no visual fuel leaks (tank needs to be painted anyway) so I drained the fuel and removed the tank, checked petcock which seems to work correctly and I didn't notice any leaks I was able to get my finger slightly wet with fuel by rubbing finger around petcock seal nothing major at all. Once fuel was drained and tank removed the fuel smell is pretty much gone .... I have since noticed that my oil may smell like fuel but im not 100% sure .... someone suggested that my floats are likely sticking causing fuel into the engine and creating the bad fuel smell but im not sure because the petcock seemed to work correctly and I keep the petcock OFF when not running the bike and the bike starts up pretty well never seemed flooded out, and also as I mentioned draining the fuel and removing the tank cleared up 99% of the fuel smell. What are your thoughts?? I don't know what I should do next, clean / check the carbs maybe (I ordered a carb rebuild kit in case its needed but I don't really want to tear into the carbs if I don't need to), I also bought oil but not sure if I should do a oil change until I know for sure what's going on and know for sure if fuel is getting into the oil. Any thoughts and advise would be appreciated! Thanks!
@sunsetsportbikes9435
@sunsetsportbikes9435 Жыл бұрын
I would drop the oil, that way you can for sure see if the oil smells like fuel.. fuel and oil will mix and you'll never know it until you hurt the engine. And if it does smell like fuel your float needles are worn out. Now this is just my advice, what I would do.. I would go ahead and buy a petcock rebuild, fairly cheap.. if you smell gas it's leaking somewhere. Rubber gets hard over the years causing it not to make a great seal. Iv seen bowl gaskets leak also, just a very small leak, no dripping but the bowl would be wet.. the carbs are easy.. if you bought the rebuild kit I would go ahead and rebuild them..
