One problem with the choke is it may last exactly to the end of the ski's lifetime. The screws could potentially fall into the intake. Rare, but it does happen. Also not as good for starting if it has sat a long time or ran out of gas. Choke plates add restriction too. But you're right, the plunger primers suck. Which is why I got a pack of chainsaw primers for under $1 each.

Nice revival! Reminds me a lot of a Kawi X2 (w/ 650) I brought back from the dead a few years back.

If it floats and has a motor, you'll figure out how it works. Another good video on diagnosing what isn't working right. I think soon your expertise on outboard and water toys will have you fixing others problems.

After I realized a 650SX has just enough power to move my fat ass around, I kinda wrote off the 550 and especially the 440, but they look so cool! Really nice classic lines and it brings me back to the original days when my dad bought one.

Smart move on the crank seals. I replace mine every season. Also, kudos on getting a round body BN carb working. My way of fixing them was to promptly eject them into the trash and replace with a SBN haha
