In this video I show how I fixed my friends Kawasaki Mule when it was overheating. My 3010 Mule had the same issue and I fixed it a couple months ago. This video we reinstall the head and the thermostat.

Good Information. I am having an issue with my Kawasaki Mule 3010 Diesel. It has 39 hours on a rebuilt engine. It has been awesome until a couple of weeks ago and I had to replace a glow plug sensor, and then a couple of weeks later, it just bogged down when I was driving, as if it only has half power. It sounds good, but won't hardly drive. It was recommended that I change the Fuel Filter. I did that, but nothing changed.

It could be a lot of things, but I would start with valve clearance check if the fuel filter didn't help. Good luck.

Hi, I bought a worn out one, won't even roll off the trailer yet, so this was very helpful to me even though I am a fair mechanic, its great to have a run through and review of some of the fine points and idiosycracies. Mone is an 04 3010 4x4 Diesel. Thanks very much.

Great videos! I just bought a 2013 4010 diesel but luckily it runs great with no overheating. I changed out the coolant which did look a little rusty… Makes me wonder if his whole problem was a loose belt since his fan was slipping which would also hinder the alternator output. I would’ve kept an eye on the coolant level to see if it was slowly dropping… But you definitely did the “full Nelson” on that unit, GREAT VIDEO!

I own a Toro workman with the same motor it's got nearly 5k hours and running strong, although compression is low on one cylinder. At some point it's going to get a valve job and cylinder inspection. Take care of these and they can last

If the belt runs the water pump too then I’d say that was the smoking gun there for sure.

Really good videos, thank you very much for sharing. I have an overheating issue with mine. Took a long ride in the woods last week and steam boiling coolant was coming out of the coolant reservoir and the fan was not kicking. I suspect air was locked as it was missing coolant when I got the Mule. I had filled it up before I went riding and I know the fan was working before with short rides (less than 1 mile). Today I started investigating this and the thermostat is missing. So I ordered a new one. I hope the head gasket is not blown but will see when I get the thermostat and purge the air...

Thanks for watching and good luck. Remember if you do have to replace the head gasket use original parts. The aftermarket gaskets are not any good.

@@JasonJonieBuilds I followed the coolant "fill" procedure and took a couple of longer rides and the MULE is not overheating anymore. However I am seeing a loss of power compared to as before the heating event. I took a compression test thru the glow plugs (took out the 5 amp fuse to disable the diesel pump) and got 420-420-440 psi. Are these values acceptable ?

Those look good to me. You have less than 5% difference between cylinders. You could try loosening your valve lash to .009 instead of. 008 and see if the power is any better.

@@JasonJonieBuilds Hi, I changed the fuel filter beside the tank, debris and a bit of water came out of the old filter and I also changed the air filter and I am seeing a bit more power. I noticed puffing air is coming out of the rubber cap at the end of air filter bowl. Is this normal ? or Am I having a valve intake problem ?

@@richardverville3893 It could be valvetrain related or engine blow-by. The mule I repaired in the video had a similar issue. He said it had been doing it for some time.

I have a pair of Kawasaki 3010s I traded for some work. Both have cracked heads on them. I am going to fix them up. After a lot of thought, and tearing these things apart, I think I know the reason they fail. The water pump in the D950d/g are undersized. They might be fine as a stationary engine with a short length coolant circulation system. But the pump really struggles to move the fluid to the front radiator and then back. Honestly, unless you are reving it, the coolant doesn't move. At first I thought the engine was made of cheap materials or a improperly torqued head gasket, but no. It's just not getting cooled properly. As solutions I have thought two things. Bring the radiator to the back, closer to the engine like the first generation of these diesel mules or an inline water booster pump. I bought a BMW auxiliary electric water to to see if I can add it to the system. Unless the water circulation can be improved, they will keep baking heads and gaskets. That's what I think anyway.

Hi, Jason I am another follower great video with great explanation and like you said no many videos like this. I own a 2009 kawasaki mule 4010 trans diesel cranks but won't fire up and I bleed all the fuel sistem put new glow plugs and still can't get it to start but I recently checked the compression on all 3 cylinders and two of them read 150 and one only reads 25. Do you think maybe I have the same issue your friend had‽ Any info would be appreciated and if I can get the link for the parts would be appreciated as well thanks looking forward to hear from you

Thanks for watching Raiza. I don't have the part numbers handy but they are pretty easy to look up online. Just don't buy aftermarket gaskets. Pay the extra money and use OEM. I would make sure your valves are set correctly before you tear it completely down. If a good valve adjustment does not help I would probably pull the head. This is just me. Good Luck!

@@JasonJonieBuilds Thank you for your reply! I'm definitely going to take up on your suggestion before I take apart the engine. I just adjusted the valves, the manual book says to set the valves with .008 clearance and that still didn't help my problem. I did a leak down test and compression test and no pressure on cylinder 3. There's air coming from the exhaust, I hope it's just a bad valve or top end work that needs to be done.

It is tough....fill with coolant, raise the front of the utv. Purge air from the purge valves (screws) at the thermostate and radiator coolant tube. Runs the engine with rad cap off and let it bubble the air out. It can take a long time. Pray....These are finicky machines.

I have a 07 mule 4x4 diesel that if I start mine with the rad cap off it shots water out think I have a bad head gasket to but can't find the gasket or the exhaust gasket

I bought my gaskets off Ebay. I sounds like yours is blown but of course I cannot verify that for you. Good Luck

How long does it normally take for my fan to kick on. I followed this video to the T, new radiator and water pump included and I never heard it come on. Hot engine light turned on. 😔😔 I hope I didn’t just waste my time with a head gasket job.

You might have a bad fan switch. It is screwed into the radiator. Does your radiator get hot? If not, and still get hot temp light you still have air in the system or getting air in system.

@@JasonJonieBuilds hi Jason. The radiator did not get hot. I did see a small leak around the hose going to the thermostat housing. Going to repair it. I did put a new fan switch.

It sounds like the air is not out of the system or you possibly have a cracked head. There is no way of me knowing. I am just trying to give you some things to think about. Good luck.
