Mine won't engage the e brake at all. I will try this on it and hopefully it will fix it.

My racheting pawl on the hand brake had become corroded over winter. I took the side cover off and used plenty of penetrating oil in the mechanism while tapping on the release button until it started to move again. Finally I lubed the whole assembly with lithium grease. Works great now.
