I headed out flicking lures for Murray cod from my kayak. This is my first Murray cod kayak fishing trip of the season. I fished with crankbaits (diving lures) and surface lures. This was my first kayak fishing session since I hurt my back. My sore back actually handled the kayak really well and I enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing afternoon of kayak fishing on the Ovens River.

I had a feeling I would have no phone service, so I scheduled my video to publish at 7:15 in case I didn't have enough service to publish it at 7. And I didn't. LOL That's why it was a bit late.

Another enjoyable watch. I recently got a 5kg baitcaster and am wanting to get on to some natives. Is 50lb braid not too heavy for a 6kg rod? What is the correct weight for a 5kg rod? Also, what do you do if you snag? 6lb line breaks off when targeting trout. The heavier line would make this a bit harder. Not to mention to cost of native lures.
@robbiefishing
@robbiefishing 5 ай бұрын
Hi mate, I use 50lb braid with my 6kg baitcaster rod and have no problems. I don't know what the recommended weight is. Basically, the heavier the line the less lures you lose. If you use too heavy it may effect the swim pattern of the lure. I find 50lb to be a good balance.

Hi mate, I am using the smallest one. I think it's 110mm. It's not that big, unlike most lures OneWell include the bib in their measurements. The 110 is great for cod and yellowbelly, but if you're after big cod in bigger waterways you may want to choose a bigger size. The 110 is ideal for lure casting in the types of waterways that I usually fish.

@@robbiefishing thanks for the reply! They are currently out of stock of the 110mm, do you think the 137mm would be any good in The Ovens? Also are you friends with a guy by the name of Lindsay Knowles? 😝

@@Indy_Dylan haha I sure am. I know him very well, he's a bloody great fella. I reckon the nest size up would definitely work, but might be a bit harder on your wrists if you're casting. No worse than a number 1 stumpjumper though.
