Years ago I heard that Jack LaLanne never liked exercise but loved the results. With instructors/coaches like Dan John out there I myself continually find enjoyment in both the process and the accompanying results of exercise. Just researched Dan John's "Quadrant Theory" and find his thoughts, exercises, and programming for fitness/sports both intriguing and refreshing.

This is a great video. I have had my snatch looked at by multiple instructors and even looking at it myself it looks solid. I have no issues getting the bell overhead or keeping it close to the zipper. But I still get pain in my bicep from snatching. I feel it always on the drop as I catch the bell. It’s fine with lighter bells (16 and 20kg) but the 24 gives me issues

Thanks Dan, I’d tried everything, but was still hurting my lower back. The throw was the cue that helped me feel it in my glutes/turned it from a drop into a hinge.

Gotta try the throw thing. I'm getting into higher rep snatch emoms and my grip is taking a beating. Blisters under the callouses sort of thing. It looks like you're gripping the bell at the start of the throw but are you saying that you're not applying any pressure to the handle until it's nearly between your legs?

Coach is a wizard! I have watched this video a handful of times but haven't snatched in far too long as I was doing S&S & ABC! While I will unlikely ever be able to justify the cost for the SFG I cert I have always had it as a bucket list item since I heard about it back in the day (early 2000s) when it was RKC. My goal is to be capable of exceeding the cert requirements by June '23 as if (& just maybe I will be there) for the Utah SFG cert. If you folks are not listening to Coach's podcast you need to fix yourself! Episode after episode is just a fire hose of easily digestible info & more importantly wisdom from a man that has been innthe game since what '65 & coaching since 79'! You can thank me after you spend a day binging on them.

I was just doing a home kb conditioning workout I think you might get a kick out of. I'm still dialing in the ratios but it consista of... 8 kb snatches Rack the kb on the shoulder 10 kb racked March steps per leg Drop in 5 burpees Rest. Repeat on the other side. My goal, which I did not reach todat, would be 80 total snatches, 100 march steps and 50 burpees as a workout. What do you think about this as general GPP?
@DanJohnStrengthCoach
@DanJohnStrengthCoach 2 жыл бұрын
The burpees might be overkill, but this looks good.

I like the way you teach !!! I do have a question - is it a shrug or does the bell needs to be swung up and outwards then pushed ?
@DanJohnStrengthCoach
@DanJohnStrengthCoach 9 ай бұрын
It's not really a shrug, no. I like to describe is as elbowing someone in the face who is over your shoulder.

In learning the snatch, do you find it’s easier to start w a lighter bell or do you train people on the bell they’ll use during the test?

My biggest issue with the snatch is tearing my fand during the drop. I try to use the tips you gave here but it still feels some kind wrong. It's like I have to catch the whole weight at the bottom to guide it back between my legs. And during this catch i get a lot of blisters. With 20kg it's not that bad. But I recently loaded up to 24kg and that's where I really noticed it. I have to glove up during some days till my calluses go away. Than try again. Maybe my grip strength is too weak for the 24kg I thought?

Can I ask, have you ever competed in kettlebell snatch? What's your PB for 10 min snatch with one hand change: 20kg or 24kg? Many thanks.

With the 32k, I did 84 and then the skin on my right hand came off. A lot...a lot of skin. It was gross. With the 24k, I did the SSST: 200 reps in 10 minutes

Amazing how your hips stay centered at 2:45 with kb in one arm when you swing it back...Tried this at home many times despite the warning but feel my pelvis wiggling-wobbling depending in which hand I hold it :( Still wondering which part of the body lacks tension and stability...lower back, legs, lats or elsewhere
