I think the girl is being rather selfish, she may think she is an adult now that she is 20 but the way she is behaving; she seems more like an immature child.
@sidesideful
@sidesideful 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree with u. I feel like a lot of people think that adult-ing is about having freedom at a certain age, being independent. But no, becoming older and being mature does not mean, "oh, I don't need my parents, I can take care of myself". Being mature means being able to take care of oneself, then others, parents, maybe even friends, and also, tbh, learning to take a step back and rely on others as well. Growing up is not all about providing providing. At the same time, it also means that we also have to learn to how to rely on others, asking for help when we realize we need it, allowing others to help us as well. We have to learn to see the full picture of developing relationships, romantic, platonic, friends or fam. If we see that growing up is being independent, all about the self, then ... you're not quite there yet.

Ri'AikaCröw you're acting like anyone under the age of 25 is completely irrational and incapable of making decisions. whilst the age of 25 is when the brain stops developing, and is when your decision making is fully developed, you actually start developing abstract thinking and hypothetical reasoning at the age of 12, meaning that at the age of 18 most people are more than capable of consenting to having sex and knowing how much is safe to drink (smoking's just fucking rank lmao). alcoholics don't start drinking at 18 when their brains aren't fully developed, then at the age of 25 immediately cut back because their brains are mature and they've suddenly realised alcoholism is bad. also, i love how you act as if having sex at 18 is scandalous when it's literally the most natural thing in the world.

i think she knows that she wont be able to live like this ever again , she knows what she wants to do, start a cafe and all. After all she is going to be the income source for the family since the mom cant work and they have no dad and her sister will most likely go to college which. Also i didnt like the mums attitude when the girl said she would finish hs she just acted like that wouldnt happen. she should have more faith in her daughter and argue with her less at this rate she is only pushing her daughter who was bullied her whole life into weird clubs where she needs to talk with strange men to feel acceptance

sidesideful i agree. When you are an adult it gets so much worse. When i was 11 i even prepared myself for the mental breakdowns in college ill have at 3:00 am. There is no freedom. The mom should just not let her in the house, or just get her a dorm
@teresc3181

She wants to be treated like an adult, that's fine. Then she should act like one. And that doesn't mean being able to go out to drink and stay out as much as she wants, but to be independent and be responsible for her actions and its consequences...

sammy it’s a lot harder in Korea for them to get their own place. The “key” (deposit)they have to give for even a rent is ridiculously high. If she doesn’t have her ged she prob would not be able to get a job to afford it. (Plus she seems irresponsible either way)

@@TheFighterfemme Actually it's not that hard.. There is a 50/50 deposit and rent place like studios "officetel" types, I was only 16 years old, had my own job, lived an hour and a half away from my parents, I was super independent, and yes I rented it at 16 because apparently in Korea the realtors can co sign for you instead of parents which when I think about it now is pretty ridiculous and I don't know why they even did that for all they know I could have been a runaway lol that was back in 2011/2012 I don't know if they still do that now lol.

She's definitely not staying in those motels with her friend. She even said her friend lives on her own and nearby so why would they need to stay somewhere else? She is going down a dangerous path. And this "boyfriend" of hers should be smart and end things. A girl with a boyfriend shouldn't be going to 'pick-up' bars.

I think she goes there only for guys to pay for her drinks and have fun. Maybe her mother doesn't give her enough money for what she wants to do. Doesn't mean she does anything. But the motel part is way too much, I'd go home while my mom is sleeping or go at my friends sometimes. Motels cost a lot i'd chose to go out with that moeny instead...

She's a definition of a selfish person. After hearing everything that her mom and her sister's struggles at the end she still thinks about herself and that stupid pick up bars. How could she go out, party all night and think only about herself when her mom is at home worried and couldn't even do much work because of her illness. And considering her age she should be responsible and mature enough to take care of her mom and her sister and find a decent job or even finish school.

In Korea, it can be difficult to get your own place if you don't have the money. A lot of apartments require you to pay a "key money" deposit, which is usually around 2 years' equivalent of the rent. So, if the rent was 500 dollars a month, she would have to pay a key deposit of around 12,000. Another option is living in a goshiwon but with her not being able to find a job, I doubt she'd have the money to afford that either.

Aww, didn't realize. Also, I think the minimum wage over there is around $7. :O Maybe she should try to get several part-time jobs and save up very very slowly. We can't get anywhere without hard work. However in her case, I don't think it's physical hard work she needs to work on. I think she needs to work on her emotional needs. I think she's avoiding the guilt of facing her family that she's so useless. She had originally wanted to look for a job. So I think she needs to put in the effort to be courageous and live with her family again and learn to accept her family's love despite all she's done.

WTF. She's the worst. Everybody gets yelled at by their parents. Argue, being compared with siblings or friends by their parents. She should have understood her mom. I think Its just her mom was just having a hard time thinking what she could do to give her kids a better life stressing and everything. She doesnt have a husband to rely on, so as a result she easily gets angry at everything. We as their children should understand our parents. I was fuming mad when she said that she doesnt want to go home because she do not want to argue with her mom. Like WTF dude Your mom is helpless you should have helped her instead on doing stupidity.

At a certain extent I relate to the girl. Because I also argue with my parents mostly with my mom. She constantly stresses me out and compares me with my friends and my relatives. Which is why I would constantly go out with my friends at night or during the day. But as much as I don't want to go home, I do. I don't stay out overnight without telling them or else something worse will just happen.

I can relate to that but as much as I want to escape the antagonizing torture of comparison; making you feel like you're worthless.. I'm broke xD so yeah I just listen to it on my right ear and take it out on my left ear. I just can't wait when I can earn money so I can escape this hellhole

I went through some similar situation, like you folks. Best I can say is, try to see it from a different perspective and stay strong, it might feel like suffering but you can learn a lot from it. Some parents are strict for a reason, maybe it was their education or the way they see things, you might not understand, but you can't change that. Absorb the good things, take a deep breath and move on, once you get older you'll be grateful for good part of it. Toodeloo

I’m the same, I can leave for weeks and come home like nothing happened. My father stresses me out most days, so I go out and stay with friends. The difference is that I stay with my grandpa(mothers father) and my father lives with us, so he has no say in how I spend my days. I also, am very prompt with my bills and I pay my grandpa every week for expenses. Theres a mutual understanding.

Thank you for each and every comment within this thread. You guys are the mature ones who keep it real. You guys know that the situation is bad, but you don't handle it irresponsibly. Thank you for sharing the thoughts I was thinking about. I rarely see comments so articulate, where I agree with fully. Also, this may seem like a useless thing to say, but I truly believe it that for all of you who commented, things will get better. The universe works in ways we don't even understand.

I can't relate. My dad called me fat and made fat jokes when I stayed the weekend due to court ordered with him. Then to come up to my alcoholic stepdadr who beat my mother everyday basically. She would kobe he should up the cops didn't do anything. I have PTSD fro.him touching me and other mental illnesses. Had to take care of my disabled sister who had cerebral palsy had seizures and is quadrapaligic. Yet no matter what I didn't go out much even when I wanted to. I never drank and still drink. I came late 2 times because the car broke down and I took a taxi. I never burdend my mother just because I was bullied at school and people telling me to kill myself. No excuses in a way. But everyone is different you tell someone no and you'll get 1000 reactions...

aHHHH this story reminds me of my story.. my older sister passed away almost 9 months ago due to this problem. But my sister was a little different. My sister worked almost everyday just to help my family pay for rent, wifi, food, clothes almost everything. She also liked to go out with her friends and drink. My mom didn't like it so they would always argue. In July of last year, my sister got mad at my mom for lecturing her and ran out the house. She never came home and my family lost her.. I just want to say, going out with your friends is fine but don't stay out for days. You never know what will happen. The thing I can relate to is that this is me and my sisters age. She's 20 and I'm in 9th grade like her sister so this really breaks my heart..
@sidesideful
@sidesideful 6 жыл бұрын
Aww, I'm sorry to hear, I'm sorry for your loss. I hope your mother doesn't blame herself. It's not anyone's fault. Accidents happen. Things happen. Life happens. It must be very tough for you and your family. But no matter what, instead of being sad thinking of your sister's passing, allow this to be an extra reminder to work hard. I'm sure your sister wouldn't want to see you and your family sad and fall apart over this. This might be too soon to say, but I know, that when you get older, things will get better. Things will always work out in the end, for sure. I know you will try very hard in life bc of what you've experienced in your life. I believe everything happens for a reason, and your sis did not die in vain. Continue to stay positive and support your parents as well, emotionally if not financially, be loving, patient, and understanding. I believe in you :)

I understand her to an extent. I mean... she's completely of age now and can do anything she wants! HOWEVER, as long as she's under her mother's roof, she should be more responsible. Now that she's also an adult, she should talk it out with her mom. I don't think she should stop going out 100% but she needs to find a healthy balance with work, school, family, and friends. It might be hard at first, especially since she's at that age where she wants to just go out and have fun, but I think that with time she will realize. Some people NEED to learn the hard way, so they won't make the same mistakes again. My mom is always begging me to go out with friends 😂😂 The great thing is that when i do want to go out, she doesn't mind. She said "as long as you go to school and work, I don't mind when you go out. just come back at the time that you promise to". My parents are divorced too, and I live with my mom. I hope that she learns how to manage her time, so her relationship with her mother will be fine too. She should consider herself lucky, I'm sure there are other people her age who don't have a parent around who looks out for them the way this mom does.

Im not sure about laws in Korea, but in the Netherlands, parents are still responsible for their child until they turn 21. Tbh she can go out all night long, but as long she lives under someone else's roof, living off of someone else's money, she should follow the rules more.

Looking at the comment section I think I realized that some people don't understand that not everyone is from the US or the rich countries in Europe, not everyone has the money to move out because in some countries it's harder to get a job that pays enough to pay the rent than to win on lotto. In my country, we have around $3 minimum wage and that's what 50% of all jobs here pay and you're considered as lucky if you even get such a bad paid job, while the most rents are around $500-700 for a small apartment. Another issue here is that the higher your degree is the harder is it to find a job because the country is poor on itself and no one is able to pay you for the high degree. So yeah, some people don't have the privilege of living in countries where it is normal to move out at 18 because even if you get a job that pays well, you rather stay with your parents to save up money and to support them with it instead and give them and yourself a better life. :)

I can tell that the older sister is hurting and wants to get back at her mother for something, but what she doesn’t realize is that her selfish, petty actions are also hurting her younger sister, who is completely innocent in this situation. The younger one wore an old coat to school because she knew her mother could’t afford a new one, while the older one spends her money at bars and on motel rooms most nights of the week. Overtop of that she doesn’t work, or even go to her GED classes. I feel no pity for her, she’s a selfish person looking for excuses. Life is going to come crashing down on her one day.
