I've been using the Flow 8 for a year now. I'm a solo musician, so I just use a single microphone on channel 1 and then plug my Nord Piano 3 into 7&8. Minor EQ, bit of low cut and compression, some reverb and mild chorus on my vocals, and then I turn my vocal mic up a bit higher for my IEM mix than I do for the main outputs. Does everything I need it to. Only thing I would like would be a basic gate perhaps, but I do just fine without it. The micro USB for the power is a bit of a pain though, I wish they used a barrel connector or USB C instead.

I have been looking for a good tutorial on this board since I bought it in February of 2022. I’ve had to learn by extreme trial and error and , after watching just this one tutorial, it was definitely a whole lot of error on my part. I gave up searching for tutorials at one point (since there really weren’t any) until I decided to give it another search today and am sure glad I did. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. It’ll be nice to take advantage of all the features this board offers me , for a change.

Thank you so much Drew! Been waiting for someone to put up a video. Learned a lot. I Bought one a few months ago and have been using it for small gigs. Works great when you have 5-6 microphones and need that extra eq on the output to get rid of feedback. Great idea to use it with Smaart! Will be watching for the next video.

The Flow 8 control app over Bluetooth seems to have fantastic range. I tried it outdoors at a soccer stadium …and 20 m range was absolute not a problem using an iPhone. I have used my Flow 8 with a usb power pack and got it run for 6 hours. The only drawback is the 16 bit audio implementation of Bluetooth. (The flow is a great family member to my XR18, X32 Rack and Wing mixers)

Hi, yes more videos please on this. I was about to sell mine until I saw your channel. Unfortunately, I’m a bit out of my depth with the digital way of doing things, I’m in my 70’s and only used to small analogue mixers but I bought my Flow8 mainly out of curiosity.

@fildok2 3 ай бұрын
@@toddmarshall7573 yes, the lack of documentation isn’t good. However, mines now gone to someone who can understand it and make better use of it than me. I’ve gone back to analogue . I see it as a failure on my part but I’m long in the tooth for these things. It’s obviously a cracking desk though.
@toddmarshall7573
@toddmarshall7573 3 ай бұрын
@@fildok2 I'm longer in the tooth than you are. It's not a digital vs. analog issue. It's a documentation issue. Even when you use their "block diagram" (which is absolutely necessary), you still have more questions than answers. I've had to learn their equipment like a scientist. I have to try different things and see what effect I get. If I had a schematic (or a usable block diagram) I wouldn't have a science experiment on my hands. And on the FLOW 8, I'm still not fast at hearing something (or hearing nothing at all) and knowing where to quickly go to address it. You have to have the structure in your head... and that's difficult when you first must guess at the structure. Actually Behringer isn't the worst. Yamaha is. But their sounds are so exceptional you put up with them. Yamaha repeatedly tells what you can do but not how to do it. It's all marketing oriented. They try to make a difficult machine simple and in so doing make a difficult machine more difficult. In my programming days we called that a KLUDGE.

i think im going to pick one of these up to handle my in ear monitoring at shows. since i can add some compression to my in ears to my vox and i think itll help my performance and help with not blowing my voice trying to hear myself. Could i set the monitor outs with different effects? Like if I wanted my headphones to have the FOH mix and my own mic with compression activated, could I set my Main L out to be just my mic, maybe with a slapback delay on it? so essentially have a mostly dry vocal send out to the Front, but have my own in ears be processed a bit heavier

Hello Drew, thank you for your in depth analyse of this mixer. Saw this mixer a couple days ago, but didn't even raise an eyebrow. Looks oldish on the outside, but after watching this video changed my mind. One question, you said that you can pair via Bluetooth two devices. Do they work simultaneously, for example. I want to play Backing tracks from a tablet but control the mixer with my phone. Is this possible and do I get break ups on my audio if I use the controls? And also, how good is the Bluetooth for audio streaming? Because last year I purchased a battery powered speaker from a very well known brand but the Bluetooth connection is constantly breaking up, causing glitches in streaming audio. So for a gigging musician this is a nono. Have to use cables and this wasn't the purpose of the speaker. Thank you in advance!
@toddmarshall7573

It's as if you have two blue tooth devices... one for the audio, one for the control. And they can be to two different physical devices. For example you can pair your PC to the audio blue tooth and your phone to the control blue tooth... and then control it remotely from an app on the phone. Of course you can have the phone be delivering the audio and the control. But you can't have two devices delivering audio simultaneously (e.g. PC and phone).

Thank you for these Flow vids. Curious if you know how good the ASIO drivers are when using it as an interface, regarding latency with plugins and soft synths? Example scenario: plug guitar in hi-z input and playing through the Guitar Rig plugin. I have an X32, do they use a similar driver perhaps? Thank you.

This is a nice little mixer. I currently use a Behringer Xenyx 1204 for my home personal use. So for example practice i hook up my kemper for 2 xlr, mic for 1 xlr and then computer playing audio. I was using a full x32 rack that use forn the whole band but hooking up unhooking weekly etc. The Xenyx gets the job done but hasn't been my favorite purchase. It just doesn't sound close.to x32. How does the effects and sound quality on this compare to the x32? I do realize they are diff devices but looking for something to replace the xenyx as sound quality is not as good. Also to kind of sit at home experiment with effects on songs, mics etc without the big x32. Anyway this looks extremely promising. The only thing I think the missed on this was midi. Do you know if it does midi via bluetooth? Might be a great later feature. As midi bluetooth controller continue to gain ground.
@DrewBrashler
@DrewBrashler Жыл бұрын
I have not done a comparison side by side to the X32 and the Flow 8 yet. But the EQ adjustment on the Flow 8 would give you more control than the Xenyx. The effects are good, I wish there was more adjustments for instance low and high cut, but I imagine Behringer is trying to keep this a simple mixer, so adding functionality like that would make it a bit harder to use for some. I believe the MIDI is only via the USB at this point. But that would be an interesting feature!

Love this product! Question: input 3 and 4 with the combo jacks are for microphones only? I tried to plug in my guitar modeler via an XLR cable but could not hear anything except some distorted sounds no matter how I adjusted the gain level. This led me to believe these inputs can only take microphone level signals. Is this correct? I guess I’d need a DI box to use these ports with my guitar modelers? Than you!
@toddmarshall7573
@toddmarshall7573 3 ай бұрын
The combo jacks accept TRS or XLR. But both assume they are mono balanced. If you want stereo and you have it on a single TRS you need to split it and use two channels. You can refer to the block diagram to learn this. In fact, that's the only source I've found so far. What is it with Behringer and their derth of documentation?

Love to see more videos about this. Can you do a video about sending out mic(audio) to PC(abletone live) and return back(monitor sound) to flow8 through same USB line routed to monitor (LR) on record mode. My sample rate is 64 and delay is not noticable but returned sound quality is not exactly same don't know why. Delay is not just about timing? Does it has to do with sound quality as well? As I increase the sample rate not just timing but the sound quality changes as well. I can't find any explanation on this. Thanks.
@DrewBrashler
@DrewBrashler Жыл бұрын
Interesting! I’ll make sure to add that to the list of videos for the future. Are you doing any processing on Ableton for your microphone? Also, if you were blending the direct sound of the mic to the delayed sound of the mic through Ableton, this would cause the two sounds to alter the overall sound in a bad way. So that might be what you are hearing. Hope this helps!
@hanye8977
@hanye8977 Жыл бұрын
@@DrewBrashlertested with no processing, audio is out from main channel 1 and return back through USB 1/2 routed to monitor(monitor channel 1 fader is all the way down) to hear only the returned sound not the main out(channel 1 mic) but I feel like there is blending going on. If that's the problem I don't know how to fix it.

Hi Drew, Thanks for taking my question. I'm using flow 8 in streaming mode to manage multiple mics in an auditorium venue while streaming a presentation via Zoom. Those mics need to be amplified in the auditorium while. My interface to the auditorium's sound system is via a HDMI connection. Remote callers need their voice to be heard in the auditorium. It has been suggested that I also use VoiceMeeter to get audio signals to both the Zoom App and to the computer for the HDMI. Do you have any pointers on how to configure F8's routing settings so that I don't need VoiceMeeter. Or do I need VM? Any recommendations on my setup would be appreciated. Peter

I didn't see if the faders are motorized, but assume so or switching between main/ monitor or phone controlling would lead to some pretty interesting results!
@ppmtv-qh9qk
@ppmtv-qh9qk Жыл бұрын
Hi Adam - the faders are not motorised. If you switch from the Main mix to a monitor mix the faders stay where they are - but the mix will remember its settings. If the fader is not where it should be then the led on the channel will illuminate to alert you. When the move the fader to the point it 'should' be at it will then become active to change the level of the mix. The small led screen shows you where your mix level is in relation to your actual fader position. Sorry it's harder to describe this than to show it! There is an issue with the mic amps check out the video - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/osWXmdGkr83eg2Q.html Ta like, ppm6.

Hi Drew, I just ordered my Flow 8 and was wondering if there is a way in the settings, either on the actual mixer or on the app, that will allow you to use 5/6 & 7/8 as 4 independent channels. I am a solo one-man-band worship leader and use a drum machine with the Kick, Snare/Toms, & HiHat separated into 3 different channels on my regular analog mixer. Can you possibly suggest the best way to utilize the last 2 channels (5/6 & 7/8) and still have some kind of isolation mix control for kick, snare, & hi-hat? I can do some individual tweaking/mixing on the Alesis SR18 for each drum, but I want to keep them on separate channels, if possible. Any thoughts or suggestions would very appreciated before my Flow 8 arrives soon. Thanks!

I hope there will be an update to have a seperate eq mixes for all the inputs that will not affect the eq settings of monitor 1&2 or if i changed the eq of one of the input on monitor 1, monitor 2 should not be affected of what ever changes of the eq settings from monitor 1. I've had mine for about a year. I've been exasperated at the dearth of documentation. Even in this simple overview you reveal things I've not seen documented anywhere. Can you supply links to written material that gives you this information. For example, where moving a fader and then simultaneously pressing main and selection enter to turn phantom power on and off. I've not seen it documented and only found it on the app by grope. Hope I find the links by the time I view all these videos.

If this mixer had the function of listening to the channel (AFL\PFL), then you can use it as a DJ mixer for small events...

Hi! Just to be sure: the "width" setting could also be labeled Q, right? Higher value does not mean more width, but higher Q?

OK, I have a very specific question. It's probably already been answered but I'm clueless about these things. I wanna stream drums on Twitch. I have Rolan V-drums and an XLR mic. The drums only have a headphone out, but they output in stereo, so I have a 3.5mm to 6.3mm audio L&R (Red & White). The drum module has Bluetooth in so i use my laptop to send audio (music i play along to) into the drum module, then the module into the Flow8, then into the PC and send that to OBS as an audio source. If I use input 1 with XLR mic and the jack inputs for the drums, will I be able to stream and directly monitor the sound using my headphones with the Flow8?

All inputs are balanced mono. If you have stereo on a TRS you need to split it to two mono TRSs and use two channels.

wouldn't it be easier to 1. install the usb audio driver to laptop 2. select either USB1/2 or USB 3/4 as the windows or software playback device, use 24bit/48kHz 3. unmute BT/USB channel (or ch5/6, 7/8) on flow 8

I have a Querstion - Maybe you can help : Ist it possible to connect to the App via bluetooth with different android and apple devices at the same time to controll the knobs and faders. I Tried I pad and Android Pad but I could not connect at the same time. As soon as I put my flow 8 in Blutooth pairing app the device that is already conected looses connectivity

The following comes directly from page 26 of the User Guide: "Only one Bluetooth device at a time may be used to control the mixer via the control app. Audio may be streamed from a separate Bluetooth device or from the same device running the control app, but a maximum of one audio device and one device with the control app are allowed at the same time."

I'm using it for a show, for IEM. And for a minute there wasn't any sound on the channel, then I noticed the yellow LED above fader 1 was on. I then turned it all the way down, the LED turned off, and there was sound again. So somehow I managed to mute just that 1 channel. And I've been trying eagerly to do that again, but I don't know how it managed to mute. So anyone knows how to mute just 1 channel? Instead of mute all? (I didn't watch the whole video, just skipped to the mute part)
@johnschalk1271
@johnschalk1271 7 ай бұрын
The yellow LED at the top of the channel on the mixer indicates when there is an OFFSET (difference) between the fader position on the mixer and in the app. Best guess is that you somehow turned the fader for channel 1 all of the way down in the app, which overrode the fader's position on the mixer. By moving the fader on the mixer, you "take control" back from the app.

@@johnschalk1271 well I never connected through the app, so I can't see how that's a possibility? Never even downloaded it actually. But there isn't anywhere/anyway to mute just 1 channel from the mixer itself?

If you’re interested in sound and mixing, why on earth would you want to send your music signals to the mixer via Bluetooth, which is less then cd quality?
