It's not a vacuum line folks, just a vent line to the air intake so as not to vent fumes into the engine bay!!! If I could super like this video, I would!

I've given up on this issue. I am reminded of the wit of Oscar Wilde in his famous play, 'The Importance of Being Earnest.' Lady Bracknell : "ignorance is a delicate flower. Touch it, and the bloom is gone. Fortunately, in this country, education produces no effect whatsoever."

Probably repeating a rare case, but just keep the regulator in mind if you have a constant long crank time yet smooth start at any engine temp. It was instantly dumping all fuel pressure as soon as the engine was shut off, but no external leakage from the vent tube (on my M117 anyway). All the usual culprits, injectors, accumulator, pump check valves and plunger sealing were perfect.
@shaazy11 ай бұрын
You're describing the exact symptoms on my '91 w124 m103. Cold start in the morning is long crank. But if I shut engine off soon, and restart, the start is yummy and instantaneous. Add to that, an on-again off-again fuel smell in the cabin. Inspecting the regulator shortly!

The "Vent" (#52) is for the direction of fuel in the case of the internal diaphragm being ruptured, so that fuel is not released onto the top of the engine/intake manifold area. This "vent," which is made of a piece of vacuum line attached to a black rubber nipple, has NOTHING to do with any vacuum. It is really a safety thing so that raw fuel is not spilled. I contrast this with the M119 that uses LH-Jetronic & the M104 that uses HFM, which employs a much smaller fuel pressure regulator with internal diaphragm, which DOES have an external vacuum connection that DOES control it in part. But these are VERY VERY different than KE-Jetronic systems, which DO NOT USE VACUUM to control the diaphragm pressure regulator. Anyone saying anything else, is, well, an idiot who does not know what they are talking about. Simple as that.

@@MMWA-DAVE I had a regulator with a leaking diaphragm and fuel that got past the diaphragm and would spew fuel into the air filter compartment and the engine. I think the diaphragm maintains fuel pressure in the engine. Please, from where did you get the manual. I could do with it to consolidate information in brain-mind. No mechanics around here know nuts about KE-jets, and I need to learn to fix this car myself.

I just want to say you are absolutely right. And the car can run without de vent tube its changes nothing. Its simpel has it get .the vebt Its only security system if the regulator goes faulty and send the petrol to the engine and not on the floor or catching fire. And thanks for your videos. I really like to change some ideas with you, if you have some time one day.

I've seen the same information freely available online before and totally agree with you. I think people become confused because Mercedes use the same tubing for the that particular vent and the rest of the vacuum system.

regarding the freely available subject- it is getting harder for the general population to get it unfortunately. I have seen MB actively target sites sharing the service manuals etc and demanding them to be taken down. I couldn’t even have what information I have these days if I had to start over again without paying for a VPN service. I am currently in the process of doing a major and costly upgrade to secure my offline data.

Perhaps the confusion arises because vacuum does affect fuel pressure on the HFM systems of later M104.99X and M111 engines. Even so, I'm no fan of spreading misinformation 😉

I found this video by Pierre Hedary sitting at his kitchen table with all the KE components in front of him doing a live video on how the KE-Jetronic system works from end to end. It's worth a watch. Special guest is his wife turning off the kitchen light on him and telling him to calm down when he gets annoyed she did that. That's right after he shows the fuel pressure regulator at 14min 15 secs kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sL56ntl1mdjOgH0.html

Thank you for this. I'm tracing a very evasive fuel smell that comes into the cabin after 2-3 minutes of the engine being on. I can smell it as I drive. The fuel tank side of things, and all possible age related ailments check out okay. Of particular interest is this vent line behind the fuel pressure regulator, and thanks to this video, I can dig a little deeper. My crankcase breather pipe has a crack where the clip holds it to the valve cover. The theory in my head is, the regulator is venting to the breather pipe as I drive, and perhaps that's coming into the cabin through the center vents. Just one question, is this vent line supposed to emit any fuel vapors in normal operation, or only when the regulator diaphragm is ruptured?
@mikebaz784311 ай бұрын
If the vent line has any fuel in it, the regulator diaphragm is toast. I've seen the vent tube spewing fuel out onto the inlet manifold when disconnected from the crank vent hose on another car with the engine running. Check for brown stains near the EHA too, as they can weep sporadically and make smells
@shaazy11 ай бұрын
@@mikebaz7843 I dug in yesternight. Couldn't see any sign of fuel wetness or smell at EHA (thank the lord, they're not cheap), nor the fuel pressure regulator vent line. Didn't disconnect the line but, disconnected the breather pipe from cam cover, and stuck my nose well in there with engine off after running it for a couple of minutes. This morning I remembered another video where MMWA's fuel distributor was leaking beneath the airflow meter, but forgot to check that. I sure hope that isn't it, cause I also adjusted the full-throttle stop via accelerator cable yesterday, stuck half a bottle of chevron high mileage cleaner, and went for a spin. And it's spinning the wheels from 1st to 2nd! Really don't wanna mess with the distributor considering how well she drives!

This ventilation connection has the same function as the connection on the accumulator. If the diaphragm leaks inside, the escaping fuel will be sucked out by the vacuum in the intake manifold and burned as well...
@theundergroundlairofthesqu9261 Жыл бұрын
Well, besides all that and the fact that the hard tubing leads to crankcase breather system as it feeds fumes to the air filter and has no vacuum to give, what's your point? 😀

Bro, I have a doubt about these fuel inputs: are the pressures equal? Is it possible to use another 2 input regulator set to 6 bar, similar to the Ford Ranger? Or even 2 different 6 bar regulators joining the fuel return? The cost of the Bosh is absurdly high in Brazil due to the dollar valuation and mail... I don't use to push much power to the engine, most of the time I keep below 3k rpm.
@MMWA-DAVE Жыл бұрын
i have not experimented with universal type fuel pressure regulator. It could work in theory, as long as it is a fixed single pressure while the engine is running, ie, does not increase pressure based on engine vacuum. The plumbing could be a nightmare though.
@vmlelectronics Жыл бұрын
@@MMWA-DAVE yes, I think the contending guy was thinking about this vacuum variable type but I could simply leave the vacuum line disconnected or put it at the same place as the original; my concern was exactly about the side inputs, if there is any different parameter of pressure for each one or if they are simply connected inside the regulator's barrel... 👍🏻
