I'll say straight up that this is my kind of pedal. Robert asked me in the late stages of the Hydra's emergence if there was anything I would change or didn't like about it and I can't think of a darned thing. The reverbs and tremolos are beautiful as is the mix-and-match functionality. Tremolo before reverb or reverb before tremolo? No probs. Kill dry? Yes. Stereo? In and out. Can I change the stereo field from mono to wet/dry to panning? Sure can. Trails? Yes. Extensive expression control? Yes. Presets? Yes: three. Tap tempo for the tremolo? Yes, and I'll demo that and other stuff in a supplementary video. But it's the sounds that floor me. So good. If you're considering a trem/verb pedal, you need to consider the Hydra. Wild fun.
I know that people will want to know the signal path of this video so here's the deal. Guitar to input of Axe-FX III which is running a good old JTM45 model, fairly clean, to two late 60's 4x12 Greenback loaded cab IR's. Between the amp and cabs I routed an output, post-amp, to the mono input of the Hydra. From the Hydra I ran left and right outputs back to the inputs of the two IR's, panned left and right. This basically creates a stereo effects loop in a 1962 Marshall amp. For this video it was perfect because it retains the amp's tone, the pedal's tone (not being compromised by the front end of the amp) and the greenback cabs tone which is final and, thanks to panning, fully stereo.

This is one of the best reviews of this pedal I’ve seen. You get straight to the point, show all features in detail and don’t waste time with idle ramblings like most reviewers. My only fear is that if watching other reviews by you will drain my bank account. It’s a chance I’m willing to take. Good job!

Had this pedal for a month now, the sounds really are insanely good. To be able to use in stereo and pan from left to right/wet-dry so easily is a fantastic feature which sounds unbelievable and the harmonic tremolo is my favourite. No risks buying this pedal, now saving up to by the Ecco's! Great job Keeley, great review as always Brett...

Brett's gear demos are so vastly superior to anything else available that the rest is useless by comparison! No one is as good at running through sounds and features as clearly and efficiently. He's so good, you don't need to read the manual on a complex pedal like this once you've seen his rundown. Can we clone this guy and have him demo every product in the world- not just guitar gear? Simplicity = Genius

@@steveyankees1 it just came in late yesterday and I haven't had the chance to play it yet. Main reason I got it, besides it sounding great, is cause it will fit on my board better and shares the same layout as the Eccos which I have and love. Also, I plan to have a stereo setup some day, so having true stereo reverb will help down the line.

Brett (or anyone reading this), I need your advice. I'm looking for a new reverb pedal and i'm lost. I play mostly heavy metal, grunge & hardrock and like a nice clear/pristine plate reverb sound on the clean parts. Although if you listen to the isolated tracks of Judas Priest & Iron Maiden there's quite a bit of reverb in the distorted rhytm sections as well. So the reverb also needs to work well with distortion. I'd also like it to have options to choose between a spring and room/hall reverb. But there's so many options, Strymon BlueSky, Neunaber Immerse, Source Audio Ventris & Collider, Red Panda Context and ofcourse the Keeley Hydra. I don't care for shimmer or modulation at all. What would you recommend?

I’d really appreciate a response from anyone that might know: Does this have analog dry through? Thanks!
@RobertKeeleyTV
@RobertKeeleyTV 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. For example, when you have reverb on the dry signal is 100% analog. It is true bypass also, even in stereo, with relays. It can be buffered. For example if you have trails on or the Tremolo of course. Thanks for your question.

Hello, is possible to put tremolo in one amp and reverb in other, when run in stereo?
@josephstewart5201
@josephstewart5201 3 жыл бұрын
Very impressive, but sadly, more is not always better, and more money is not always better either. I own the Hydra and the Flint, and I also some of the better better standalone tremolo and reverb pedals (i.e., Supa-Trem, TR2, BigSky, even some rack stuff like Lexicon, etc.), and to me, the Hydra is just too sterile sounding, too synthetic, too "digital". That all works well on Bridge of Sighs (Robin Trower) and other deeply ethereal stuff, but if you're into the older, more natural, analog stuff, the Flint and other daisy-chained stand-alones beat it, in my humble opinion.

@@RobertKeeleyTV I do like the fact that you engage with those of us who carp a bit about your pedals, even here in the bear pit that is 'KZfaq Comments'.
