The lyrics "Dutybound to the Regent’s word But by His command alone the Son is heard" I enjoy it shows that the custodes are not following Guilliman just because he is the emperors son but because the emperor told them to and if the emperor tells them to stop listening to his son the custodes probably just abandon Guilliman and return to the palace.

And it's also a reference to the revelations in the recently published _Godblight_ on the nature of those warp entities that end up becoming called "gods", to Guilliman from both an Aeldari emissary and the Cawl Inferior. To quote the latter, "all gods are blights on existence, Roboute Guilliman, whether they call themselves gods or not."

Ten thousand years. By ten milenia, despite what many could trought, Custodies, especially ones that survived siege of Terra has felt disgrace and sense of unending guilt that they failed their Emperor. But now, in the darkest hour of the Imperium, they can now prove themselvs once more to their creator, and bring light upon his work.

I just love the reference to the Misericordia belief of the Custodes (in case u don't know, it's said that for each enemy Custodes un-alive with their knife, the Misericordia, the Emperor is slightly healed, bringing him to be eventually fully healed)

@@bowenorcutt78 I think it has come to light the Custodies have been active beyond Terra covertly all this time, this recently became overt with the return of Guilliman. Also there is a portal to hell in the Imperial Palace(They were going to have a portal network with the palace in the center it went very wrong), so they are slaying armies of demons daily.

They not only wards the Emperor Himself, but the future of mankind with all the knowledge and wisdom their possess, be arts, science, warfare and beyond; they are the only ones who keeps the dream of a better humanity, free of superstition, fear and blind faith on lies. How magnificents, but how pityfull, for in the grimm darkness of the 42nd millenium there can be no victor.

But after many years learning about them, they are the only "sane" faction of the 40k universe: They are not afflicted by sorrow or dread, instead they overjoy the strugles and keep facing the hardness with a smile; they not need a real wisdom because they have mastered the "know-how" concept of practically everything.... Maybe they are in the end simply idiots, or maybe the most clever of all factions

No matter how much greatness and power is in this song. No matter how much duty and discipline it is filled with, at the end the only thing left to hear is sorrow. Something hidden very deep within every single one of the Custodes who have seen it all from day 1. Custodes know what's up and that hits me really hard. They could have easily continued Emperor's work since they've been there and seen it all, they know exactly what to do. The word of any Custodian would be the most based and absolute order for any human in the Imperium. But they don't and "march in proper place" instead while keeping everything inside.

The plodding, steady beat really sells how ancient the Custodes are, first of The Emperor's warriors. Their duty and vigil has never ended across the life of the Imperium. The loss they feel, even from those who never saw The Emperor in his prime, is a shame they can never escape.

Imagine how hilarious every enemy’s reaction would have been if for ten thousand years the Custodes had been busy recruiting without taking loses to replace. All across the Imperium’s vast population. Guilliman shows up, tells them to kick ass, and an insanely advanced ocean of gold sweeps across the galaxy. Heck, the thought of the Eldar pissing themselves in jealousy and horror of Mankind’s potential…feels good, man. And really it’s waaaaay more believable than Primaris. Would fit the Space Warhammer analogue to WFB’s Storm dudes much better than Primaris, too.

They remain at around 10,000 because some of them have actually gone out on a mission(they vary rarely die for obvious reasons but it still happens) sent to them by the Emperor Tarot and the process to make them made is long difficult compared to Space Marine recruitment.

Here's my theory. The Custodes age really, really slowly, right? Turns out that they also mature really, really slowly. There are Custodian reinforcements being made all the time; it just takes thousands of years for them to mature, train, etc.

Among other things, this song convinces me that the Custodes aren't just automatons or perfect soldiers for the Emperor, rather they are what the Emperor believes mankind can become, a little piece of his vision of the perfect humanity he so strives for brought into reality, or as close to reality as it can be They aren't the space marines, the angels of the Emperor, as they lack any of the extra organs that define them They are humanity distilled and purified A shining fragment of His dream

Guardsmen feel less shame and guilt for the ‘death’ of the Emperor and more indebtedness to Him. The Custodes seek to regain the honor they “lost” in the Heresy and to continue the Emperor’s work. Guardsmen are mostly taught that they are nothing if not for the Emperor, so they have nothing to prove. They only have their lives to offer Him for ‘saving the Galaxy’ (mostly humankind) from Chaos (though they probably don’t know what Chaos is. Too much of a risk in the eyes of the Inquisition.)

I’m really curious and a bit concerned about what will happen when a second Primarch returns. In theory every single loyalist Primarch has an equal claim to Big E’s legacy, and so in theory could challenge him, and I figure whoever the custodies side with would win.

@@silverbladeofnorth7345 I absolutely agree, but Big E isn’t exactly a chatty person since being put on the throne, so in the time it takes him to announce his decision there is probably going to be time for a quick power struggle, and maybe even a duel.

One of the better songs. I'm not easy to impress. This song impresses me. The tones are meaningful and the lyrics state a message that isn't black and white. There's a sense of embracing the pain and suffering. Instead of pretending one can simply flee from it like a coward. Face and confront. Even if angels stand in your way. Forge your own path. A shame so many in warhammer lose sight of that. When they blindly follow the emperor or the chaos gods. Two sides of the same coin really. The lyrics hint at some space marines knowing that. After all, it was in the name of the emperor that a chaos artifact was destroyed and freed a chaos god (first dawn of war game). "Stand in disgrace" fits for reasons such as that. Adds more weight to "mankinds blight" too.
