Hello Becky - if you are struggling to feel your muscles this is usually down to nerves and lack of sensation, and weak. This is one of the most common problems that women can’t ‘feel’ their -pelvic floor muscles so they are unable to activate them to help them do their job. The pelvic floor or Kegel muscles can restore sensation and nerve sensation - it is the exercising that promotes improvement. The muscles become strong, the rest and release stimulates blood flow and improved circulation. Nerves are a bit more difficult, but electrical stimulation (such as the Kegel8 Ultra 20) does the exercising, which is great if your muscles are weak and you can’t move them yourself. Also, the pelvic muscles get tired very easily - that’s why we cant ‘grip’ for long, but an electronic exerciser causes the work (grip) and release that mimics a natural muscle contraction. The rest phase is as vital as the work part! This is when the blood rushes back into the muscle. Also with electronic stimulation it works to get the nerves back functioning again, so restoring control and sensation. This is especially vital as we get older 40+. Most women give up on Kegel exercises because they get tired, or they think they are not working. Please do not stop, it is vital you continue and results will be felt after 30 days in most cases. I try to stress to women to help manage their pelvic floor muscles, like brushing their teeth. Little and often. Whether you do manual or a machine or device to help you exercise, please just do them. I hope this is of help. Can I also add that clinical evidence shows that many women with a weak pelvic floor have low levels of Vitamin D3, I cant dispense medical advice but if you have a nutritionist or healthcare provider and you can have a Vitamin D test to see if you are deficient its a really good idea.
