In his first speech as prime minister in the House of Commons, Keir Starmer welcomed the 'most diverse parliament by race and gender' and 'the largest cohort of LGBT+ MPs of any parliament in the world'. He also praised Diane Abbott - now the mother of the house and the longest continuous serving female MP

The Commons was diverse a week before the election was called and ten years or more before that. Is he trying to take credit for it? What he certainly can't take credit for is being Prime Minister and being at the helm of a Labour Party actually in power: that is entirely down to how poorly the Tories ended up governing and how Reform UK took a lot of the Conservative vote at the election.
