Interested in knowing what the cities on Crete are like? In this vlog we're exploring the three biggest cities on the island of Crete in Greece: Chania, Rethymno and Heraklion. We walk through the old towns, hangout at the beaches and take in what each city has to offer. Find out which was our favourite and what we recommend. Crete has too much to offer and this has been one of our favourite destinations so far.

We met at LaSalle Secondary School in Kingston Ontario and we’ve been together for 9 years now. Keith comes from a bilingual military family and Devon from a family of teachers. We made it through Queen’s University together where Keith studied Mechanical Engineering and Devon, Concurrent Education and Global Development. Heraklion museum likely is the best archeological museum in Greece

Where did y’all learn about the different empires taking over? At a museum there or researching online? Also, how much did it cost to ride the bus to the next town? And who did y’all book through?

Through research online, there is a museum in Heraklion but I do not think there is one in Chania. The bus was a very reasonable price, I do not remember the exact amount but less then 10 euros per person for sure. We also booked the bus the day of at the bus station, they have multiple buses daily.

I like: Rethymno for folk festival dancing in their large open air plaza ; Chania for international military Patriot Express flights & lodging & car rental on air base, local museums, skin diving, Venetian historical sites, & restaurants; Heraklion for the excellent Greek museum and nearby Knossos where there is the oldest throne in Europe; and the wonderful beach at Sougia (south of Chania) where wearing only a smile with no tan lines , enjoy a full suntan mingling with congenial fit svelte beauty.

A folk dance festival! That sounds great! What time of year is it held? Thank you for this great comment, it is true each of the cities has a different reason for visiting it :) Thanks for watching!

I couldn’t find the cultural dance festival for this year. About ten years ago, I was by chance (synchronicity) lucky to see a dance festival that lasted several hours with many dance groups from multiple Crete regions , different costumes, and a mix of different dance traditional styles . Here is a list of some style groups I found today on the internet: The most popular traditional folk Cretan dances are Syrtos (or Chaniotis), Pentozalis, Maleviziotis, Siganos and Sousta. All these are currently widely performed throughout Crete in local festivals and “panigiria”.
