Actual story: Keltec CEO: Alright, we just released the KSG. The Americans are buying them like crazy, but not a single order from Western Europe. Why? Customer support employee: We had a bunch of requests for custom orders. Basically all of them want the guns longer because of some obscure legal minium length. Keltec CEO: "Legal minimum length"?!? Legal department, is that true and why didn't you say anything about it earlier? Employee of the legal department after consulting the internet for five minutes: It seems like the Germans introduced a minimum length of 95cm for pump action shotguns for no reason in 2008 and most of Europe adopted it. If I read the law correctly, just making the gun longer should solve the issue. Keltec CEO: Alright we will listen to the customers. Everyone: Make the KSG over 95cm! Let's see how much ammo that will baby will fit.

Now this thing is a game changer i would say- Shorter than the established 870 and 590, more capacity than a Saiga with a drum, and you can alternate between ammo at will, AND it works with minishells...

@@buckshots2dabrain859 Basically reduced-load shotgun shells that are shorter than regular shells. Used for hunting vermin or just for plinking to have a bit more capacity in the mag tube.

The irony of the story is that the KSG-25 only exists because of nonsensical bans. Namely the German Weapons Law attachment 2 section 1 point 1.2.1.2: "Der Umgang, mit Ausnahme der Unbrauchbarmachung, mit folgenden Waffen und Munition ist verboten: (...) Vorderschaftrepetierflinten, bei denen anstelle des Hinterschaftes ein Kurzwaffengriff vorhanden ist oder die Waffengesamtlänge in der kürzest möglichen Verwendungsform weniger als 95 cm oder die Lauflänge weniger als 45 cm beträgt, sind;" (Pistol grip pump action shotguns are banned, pump action shotguns with a barrel length of less than 45cm are banned, and pump action shotguns with an overall length of less than 95cm are banned.) This was introduced in 2008 after a politicised school shooting which did not involve any of the aforementioned guns. Several other European countries copied the law. When Keltec introduced the KSG, most Europeans couldn't legally buy it. So they asked for an extended version. The KSG-25 is 96.5cm, so just barely legal.

Hey hickok. Just wanted to say thanks for your vids. Just picked up my first ar 15 (first firearm too). I’m a college instructor so I hear a lot of irrational nonsense when it comes to guns. Thank you for demonstrating what responsible gun ownership looks like.

The bad thing with using slugs in one tube and buckshot in the other is you CAN'T forget about what is currently in the chamber. Just because you switch the selector over, you're still loaded with shell of the previous ammo in the chamber.

As far as availability goes, a local small gun shop I frequent quite often ordered and sold I think 3 of these in about 2 weeks. Not high a high volume store but seemed to be able to get them ordered for customers that wanted them in a timely manner. This gun, in my opinion, is the answer to the problem that doesn’t exist. But, who says guns have to have a purpose? To each their own. I’m going to stick with my trusty Mossberg 500 and 590a1. What a wonderful time to be a firearms enthusiast. So many interesting, new things coming out all the time. Life is really really good. Great video Hickok.

Patrick Purdy Not sure if it's true or not, but I heard this came around due to firearm laws in other countries regarding barrel length on shotguns, so Kel Tec figured that if the gun is longer anyway, why not lengthen the mag tubes as well.

Been working on some "short 2 3/4" rounds lately. Overall length is between 1 7/8" and 2". It doesn't seem like much, but if you compare it to something like the Rio 00 buck load at 2.5", cutting off .5" on 12 rounds means you can run 3 more, so a total of 15. They can be ran more reliably that the super short mini shells. Oh and they are pretty much full power too, not the watered down stuff.

With a bit more familiarity, and with the moving parts fully worn or run in, I imagine this would be one hell of a defensive weapon. I carried an issue Remington 870 for over a decade and had one personally for longer. Every pump action I ever used was stiff and a bit sticky in action when brand new, no matter what lube you used. That's the beauty of a pump, the older they get, the better they are !

Between Tenda and Kel-Tec, the ability to have switchable loadouts as paramount, that is so awesome... When you are vacationing and Bear country, and you know the salmon runs have been good - you need to be able to convince Mama Bear real quick trying to fatten up for her Cubs that today is not going to happen. In my mind, being able to toggle between .30-03 buck and 12 slug... Keeps me in the advantage, against a greasy ass bear 🐻

Hi Bill- love your vid's- great stuff, very informative, and love your expertise. Did want to comment on your observation of short shucking a KSG or the KSG-25. I have three KSG's and they all work fantastic for me. For some reason, I've seen people shoot them and more than any other pump type shotgun, people tend to get a bit lazy and short shuck it. You have to be pretty intentional on cycling this gun- if you get lazy and don't cycle it with authority, it can fail to load or jam. In my view (and this is where we differ a bit), short shucking is an operator error, not necessarily the guns fault. Keep the great vid's coming, and thank you for all you do.

I would hope you wouldn't need 24 rounds for home defense, unless you live in a really bad neighborhood. In that case I think I would check into moving somewhere else.

short stroking it was an initial issue with many training with the KSG, but you just need to train yourself to rip the charge handle back and rip it forward to fire. we however trained on the standard version with an angled foregrip, and a aimpoint red dot. excellent platform just a few drawbacks.
