We test Kendas which are pricey but last a long time, vs lionhearts which are super cheap to not only see which last longer, but the cost per lap.

i just had a track day with my LS 240sx, makes 365whp. running a 235/40r18 Zestino Gredge 240 treadwear at 30 psi. i got 16 laps that day on them, and i had 2-3 laps on them from a previous day. i was running on a smaller track, the video is the latest one on my channel if you wanted to have a look for comparison. the tires held lots of grip right up to the end where i spun out. I've got a couple sets of the zestino acrova to try as well, which is supposed to last even longer with similar grip. We get these tires in canada for about $120 plus shipping (probably cheaper in the states) The other tire i'm going to test is the Zenna Argus UHB. i ran them on a previous car, same size and was getting upwards of 25 laps no problem (On a different track layout though) I appreciate what your doing with the technical analysis on tires! I've been gathering my own data to finally figure out which tire reigns supreme!

This is really my kind of vid, and really enjoying your channel more and more! I Love all the Z stuff! In my experience, the brand i liked the most (grip/durability) was Lucky Land. I tried loads of them cheap brands already, i feel you in the "delamination" area, the worse ones i had doing this were Aotelli. Please keep up this kind of vids. Super interested in this also! I had 4 triangles that were almost 2 years old and heat cycled from an event. The 4 lasted me the whole day on a hot lap track with 350hp. Didn’t chunk or delaminate either which usually happens with old used tires

I ran a set of Sentury tires 225/40r18 on my Z vs a set of Kenda's on different days. The Kenda's faaaaar out performed the Sentury's. I averaged about 20 laps on the Kenda's on a 80 degree day, vs 12 on a 50 degree day and a patchy wet-dry track. Sentury's can be bought at discount for about $55 a tire, Kenda I can get between 70-80. And like you saw, you can safely run kenda's to the literal end of their life without causing additional damage.

Nankang NS-20's and Achillies ATR Sport-2 and Sports should be the next set you should test. 4 new nankang ns-20 right now on ebay are going for $292.00 for a 265/35/18. For Achillies ATR Sport & Sport 2's going for 302.88 for a set of 4 as well.

I've tried a tonne of different tyres over the past 8 years (from worst to best, all 215/45/17): Austyre pressurised insanely fast and got REAL slick (to the point i thought i had popped them and was on the rim), avoid at all costs. Nankang NS2's & NS20's - both pressurised really fast and were more expensive than other much better tyres. Horace Headway were good for grip, and were ok on the pressurising but chunked at the end. Durun were cheap and lasted the same as the Horace but didnt chunk. Kapsens were the longest wearing tyre i've ever tried (double the life of anything else) but were a touch slippery-er than the Horace and didn't smoke as well (my tyre of choice now, just run a grippier setup to compensate). Tri-ace had awesome grip (probably because they measured an extra 10mm wider than the indicated width) and didn't chunk out, wearing evenly but were pricey. The old Neuton NT5000's were cheap, awesome grip (similar to a Toyo!) and wore evenly. They were a directional but could run them backwards no problem and i use them as steerers on the road. Jinyu's, Blacklion and Evergreen were other notable tyres performing similar to the Durun

when a company gets off their ass and uses all their R&D data to create a compound that doesnt get extremely soft after 10 seconds and basically vanishes thereafter
@Tanner731
@Tanner731 6 жыл бұрын
why would they make tires that lasted longer for drifting? think about it, the more tires you go through the more tires you'll buy from them. also all their R&D in drifting is going to come from FD where they want softer more grippy tires than your average joe doin skids on the weekend. zestino was teasing a "practice" compound for awhile that supposedly lasted pretty long but I havent been able to find anything more about those tires.

I’m in Australia & I’m a tight ass but I use retread tyres cause they cost me $30 each. Good thing when they delam there is no belts to stuff your car up. As long as you run low tyre pressure they old up sweet. They also smoke better than any other tyre I have used. A lot of the guys that compete in burnout comps use them

You should also take into account the cost of getting the tires mounted, like you said the normal person isn’t mounting their own tires. I think you’re right, the Kendas are better because you don’t have to bring as many wheels & the cost to mount the tires would be less for the same number of laps compared to the lionhearts. Great video, definitely try out more tires! You are like Bill Nye the tire guy!!

Great video as always, keep up the good work! There is just one thing I might not understand: You kill 2 tires at once, so when you do, say, 4 laps on Kendas, you spend about 160$. So a lap costs you not around 20$, but more like 40$? Or am I missing something?

Curtis Chornohos for ages I’ve seen other people run directional tires backwards and I’ve done it myself with the federals. But with the better tires like kendas and zestinos I have not. Haven’t had the need when I’m getting 15-20 laps out of a pair. It might be worth a try with the acrovas though.

Hi, I have tried out this myselv, with other brands, and spesifications.. I have found that tire with higher load index holds longer, as in my case, I do most burnouts in my car, for now, and I work at a tire dealer, so I get free used tires, I started with a good threaded 195/65r15, it hold a burnout for 2 minutts before poping, and that was with wheel speed above 100mph att all times.. tried with 195/70r15 wiitch is a tire for bigger vehicles, like delivery truck etc, they lasted for almost 5 minutts on the same skid pad, the same day and aprox the same speed

I would do another test at osw IMO. Only reason i say that is because each run was different with the use of the hand brake. Like when you noticed that you would hold the hand brake to long and flate spot the tire. The test would be alot better if your running the skid pad and see how the tread would wear thru each session. Just my 2 cents.

If you add in time/cost for mounting tires and swapping them, the Kendas prove a little bit better value as you have less labor time/cost into running them. Also if you end up with timed run groups and you are able to just cord a set of kendas over the full session, you would only get 75% of the session before you would have to swap tires or sit out with the lionhearts.

An old school Japanese driver told me that about 15 years ago, they draw air into the channels in the tire. Definitely works a treat. And go the federal 595. Get twice as long as a cheap tyre.

try federal tires, they are pretty cheap and last a decent amount of time, would be a great comparison to kenda's. The 595 rsrr are a great tire for the money so thats where i would start for comparison
