Btw "The perks of being a wallflower" is one of the only movies that I saw that treat men's sexual abuse SERIOUSLY and you can see how the protagonist is deeply hurt byu what happend to him- they don't use that experience as something that made him "edgy and cool XD" but something that traumatized him, something that activelly made his life and his interactions with other people worse.

Okay so Christian getting into a submissive pose when Anna threatens to leave is a big problem to me. They are framing it as "oh it's romantic, he loves her so much that he is willing to submit to her and acknowledge her power as a woman", but to me it instead suggests that he feels like he is being punished and it's causing him to panic, so subconsciously he is reverting to behaviors that may have appeased his abuser in the past.

Damn wait till you hear about killing stalking it’s basically the anime version of this but way more bloody and probably way more gross and triggering- (TW before looking it up if you’re interested in seeing what it is, it contains s**ual assault, gaslighting, gore, child abuse, inc*st, and murder- its honestly the worst and the fact the main creep is being simped over so hard by these teen girls who are literally saying “SaNgWoO cOuLd bReAk mY aNkLeS anY tImE ” which is an inside joke in the comic’s fandom to when the main creep breaks the ankles of the boy he kidnapped so he can’t run away makes me ✨sick✨)

The way movies slide past men’s sexual assault is so upsetting bc it not only puts in women’s mind that it’s not that serious and men just need pussy to heal from it but it puts in men’s mind that it’s not something that will be taken seriously and perpetuates the stigma around men getting help and speaking about their situations. The casual sexual assaults in movies and the lack of healing from it is so damaging for all of us and I don’t think many ppl see that

Yes! I mean, there's nothing wrong with liking vanilla men or things in general. You know. There are people who like chocolate or caramel ice cream (intense flavour), some people like vanilla ice cream (more simple and low key flavour), and then there are the desperate people: The folks who right down chew on ice. I mean... Why would you go for a flavourless man that can't even satisfy any of your needs? Christian, the dude from after, Massimo etc.. can't even look after themselves. They just stand there trying to look edgy and sexy. And they fail every single time. It's getting sad

Eh, the "predatory older woman abusing teenage boy" plotline is in the books basically the same way--they drop the word 'p*dophile' to point out that the author knows what's going on, but then the story continues treating her as just an ex who has some jealously about a younger woman dating the man she used to have. It's revealing about the author in a way that the other skeazy stuff in the story doesn't...especially when the exact same thing happens in the author's other book

All jokes aside it's incredibly infuriating that movies and society continue to push this narrative of women being able to fix men's trauma with sex. Also, that trauma is something that can be sexualized, like we do not equate to therapy, and it is disgusting to sexualize trauma. Like it is not women's job to fix a broken man. It's not anyone's job to FIX anyone, why don't we perpetuate therapy. It's extremely exhausting as a woman in society to constantly having to battle people with this ideal in their head.

I agree. Everytime I watch a movie like this, I'm just screaming, "Therapy! He needs THERAPY." I'm so sick of the "only she can fix him" trope. Trauma is not an aphrodisiac and it's not something that can be fixed by another person. It's YOUR responsibility to work on it. I'm just tired of seeing this trope that only exists to further push that they ARE "in love"and he does "LOVE" her and this is how we know.
@elleofhearts8471
@elleofhearts8471 Жыл бұрын
its such a boring trope too. having women be everything to everybody is such a dead horse that is never entertaining or pleasant. Esspecially when its being everything to men. "you're my everything" gets taken literally way too often in fiction and it bleeds into real life. Theres a theory as to why men tend to die soon after their wife dies (in old age). the theory goes that when the wife dies, much of his emotional connections outside of himself goes with her. Old men have such limited intimate relationships at the end of life with others than old women do, that the disruption of his intimate connection causes his quality of life/health to decline. I wouldn't be surprised if women die before men because their life-force can no longer sustain the strain of being everything to their male partners for decades.

Ok, I can't believe I'm about to write this, but you know where I found a relationship like that? In RIVERDALE, between Betty and Jughead.💀 Crazy, huh? But just focusing on those two, they have pretty healthy dynamics. They both have a lot of issues with their families, they come from different economic backgrounds, Betty struggles with mental health... so their lives are far from perfect, but they always support each other. From the end of season 1 onwards, almost all the drama comes from outside and they fight it together. There is no codependency in their relationship, they both can accomplish things on their own and are not afraid to call each other out if they disagree, but they also know that they can always rely on each other. Their relationship doesn't make them "whole" - because they already are their own person - but it does make them stronger.

Looking at people fawning over the scene when Christian bows down to Anna and lets her touch him is befuddling because like, Are we really not gonna talk about what that means with respect to his past relationships? Christian had gone back to treating Anna the way he found well and comfortable disregarding her promise simply because he had been not expecting consequences for it the way Ana always had not given him, and when he sees her about to leave and done with his sh*t he panics quickly and is emotionally trying to manipulate her into staying the only way he knew how, the way it worked with Elena Lincoln,( the woman he was molested by) , by bowing down into a submissive position and surrendering himself the way a submissive would, no doubt the way he had to as a child in front of Lincoln. I had to pause the movie and close my eyes for a while five minutes after the scene realizing how fucked up it was.

@@FuzzyBunny28 Before I thought they wouldn’t actually release an actually good bdsm movie, because like that just a lot y’know, based off of what I had seen and read, but just something that’s in the sex field. But I guess not cause they released this, and they are not afraid to Put sex scenes in movies.

50 shades, if written well, could’ve been a great story exploring the cycle of sexual trauma and abuse and how it can contribute to predators using BDSM to wrongfully supply their need for control and sexual dominance. But no. It was a toxic romance story with vanilla sex made for wine moms.

honestly i only truly like those "possessive"/"obsessive" character types in dark stories (ex: yandere stories) because it acknowledges that it's very unhealthy and inherently wrong, but the character is so fucked up and/or delusional at that point that they don't care, even if the object of their affections is fucking terrified, so it's a bad end all around. but portrayed like *_this_* in films, like it's a healthy and something you should look for in a relationship?? that's not okay. like. at all. least the dark stories/genre actively acknowledge and remind that these things aren't healthy. normalizing this is not. okay. at all.

Honestly if Twilight was in the horror genre, 50 Shades of Grey was a cautionary tale, After be more like a coming of age story with the love interest framed as he is (a dick), and 365 Days be in a horror/thriller genre then they wouldn’t be so problematic.
