It sounds like there wasnt going to be a competition. A report just released moments ago that they didn’t even think they were going to land Wilson. Then they did but assured his camp that he’d be the starter if he signed (that was confirmed by Schefter) Kenny found out via Tomlin that Russ was the number 1 barring any major changes. He wants to leave. It’s really that simple. They gave up on Pickett when they scored Wilson.

He didn’t seem to comprehend that the Steelers have put up with BS from guys in the past but those guys were top of the league at their positions to be worth the headache. Not hard to replace a 13 TD 13 INT guys production and if you have two options to do that for low cost it makes it a pretty easy call to just move on.

I really think the Steelers did intend to give Pickett a fair shot, but the minute he refused to compete with Russell Wilson, it killed his future. If he won't compete with Wilson, he won't compete with Rudolph. The Steelers are as loyal as any team in the NFL. If they were so willing to move on from Pickett so quickly, there's a reason. They assessed what they saw in him and what they saw was a mediocre QB who didn't have the leadership qualities or maturity to make it worth giving him more time to develop. It's also sort of wild that there's this idea the beat reporters were "lied" to. My guy, things change. Stuff happens fast in free agency.

Picket should be applauded. The steelers are a joke. Rudolph knew it too and ran for the door. Picket had a winning record with one full year. You do not dump a first round guy like this ever. They jerked him around and then the insane fans blamed him for doing what he was told and having to deal with a bad line, bad OC and joke receivers all year. You do not draft a qb and then act like he is some instant savior with no support. They deserve to lose every game next year.

@@bobross1829Pickett is a complete bum. Yeah he has a winning record because the team won in spite of him. He has 13 freakin touchdowns in 24 games. That's laughable. Damien Woody said today: "Kenny Pickett ran from competition. I think that says a lot about his character." F*cking facts! Pickett thought he was gonna get that job locked in like Big Ben got, but without the Big Ben rookie season. He was praised locally and thought privilege came with it. Nope 😂😂😂

Yes, we all rooted for Kenny, but he let the Steelers down. He deserves no sympathy. Tomlin realized the team's temperature was going in the wrong direction. Once the Reindeer exposed Kenny as the true problem, the handwriting was on the wall. The playoff loss would have been closer had TJ Watt played in the Bills game. The team hung in there after multiple mistakes and still had a chance. People forget how many injuries the team overcame and still practically swept the North. It's time to reclaim the throne.

@@Steelfan-oe7ok Come on now. I think most of us had thoughts that Pickett could have been a franchise QB. I don’t know of anyone who thought he would be the next Dan Marino or Big Ben. The organization finally realized they have to face Lamar Jackson (who they’ve handled pretty well so far) and Joe Borrow who is unquestionably the real deal. And Kenny Pickett wasn’t gonna cut it no matter how good the defense is. Let alone competing with Mahomes and KC for the AFC Championship. They saw Josh Allen in Buffalo put the game on his shoulders and steamroll the Steelers in the playoffs. It would have taken many years for Pickett to develop to that level if he ever could. They’re tired of hearing about and witnessing 1st round blowout playoff exits. They had to do something.

@@mikee2923 I never thought that he was a future franchise QB. When they picked him I ended up down a TV remote. There were plenty of local fans who felt he was definitely the next Ben. I only mentioned Marino because I think Colbert was afraid to not take Pickett because of them not taking Marino
@mikee2923
@mikee2923 Ай бұрын
@@Steelfan-oe7ok I heard that Marino story somewhere. I thought that Pickett had a chance to be a franchise QB just because you never know until he was given a shot. Look at Brock Purdy or even Brady for that matter. I really wanted him to succeed for the Steeler’s sake. At first he seemed lost. First start vs Josh Allen and Buffalo not really ideal. Understandable. He seemed to slowly improve in his first year. Still thought there was a chance but less of one. The passed preseason had me believing a little more. The ass whooping in week 1 by the 49ers started to bring me back to reality and by about week 3 I knew it was hopeless. He did actually start to move the ball against Cincy in his final start after the Canada firing but didn’t produce points. After he got hurt I thought Mitch might show something. Boy was I ever wrong. Then Rudolph came in and lit it up. All doubt was erased at that point. Especially when he pouted when asked if he learned anything by watching Rudolph and he smugly said no. Hard to say what the coming season will bring. But as far as the offense is concerned I can’t see how it could be any worse.

I watched Pickett last season and he was always the biggest issue in the games. Matt Canada was bad, but Kenny was terrible. Go watch film of the Texans game or the Jags game. Pickett wouldn't read the field and guys would come open as he bailed from the pocket (some clean and some not). It got so bad that Pickens and Johnson started acting out because they didn't get the ball when they called for it. QB school and a couple of other channels called it out in multiple games. Pickett is not an NFL QB. He can't anticipate, nor does he have the patience to go through reads properly. Good riddance.

At the end of the season, Tomlin made it clear there would be competition for these starting positions before next season starts. No way Pickett should have thought the starting job was his, regardless of who the other QB's in the room are. Pickett showed who he is, and I'm glad he's gone. Good for Khan and Rooney for saying, "NO MORE"! Time for massive change.

I hope Pickett does well in Philadelphia. He didn't do much in Pittsburgh stat wise. But he did win in close games. The biggest mistake the Steelers made was keeping Canada around. He is not a bad guy. But he sure have been gone after the 2022-23 season. All that said, looking forward to seeing Wilson play for Tomlin. I think Fields can grow backing up Wilson for a season or two. Queen is going to really take this defense to another level. So if the Offense can stay on the field, we should have a top five defense. This draft, we need a Center, a CB, a WR, and a Tackle. This should be a really good team in the toughest division in the league. Here we go Steelers.

He is quick to give up on plays and panic. Im so glad we dont have KP8 in the lockeroom next year. Mason was ready to move on for an opportunity elsewhere Mitch Trubisky was garbage. Freah start in the QB room was the best for this team. Big upgrades imho.

Just spat out the former Steelers QB/WR Mike Malone and his former record of the longest reception/reception TD for 90yds. I bet you that most Steelers fans, as in 99% of them, wouldn't have known that record, and probably 90% of them wouldn't have known of Mike Malone! This is the second group of talking heads today trying to make a segment about the Steelers' "dishonesty" towards Pickett. Why is it so hard to accept that they still thought that Pickett was their long-term future but needed to show significant improvement before being handed the keys to the car again? And that if he didn't, they needed a Plan B while they still had a Cam Heyward, TJ Watt, and Minkah Fitzpatrick. Is it THAT crazy?

Talent-wise, Kenny Pickett is the 21st-century version of Bubby Brister. The biggest difference: Bubby knew he was mid. Bubby stayed in his lane and didn't rock the boat, because ke knew, at any minute, if he gave the team a reason, he'd be on the streets. Not dressing in Week 17 to back up Mason and canceling the WR workout after finding out about the Wilson trade...enough was enough. Good riddance to bad rubbish...

I think it all came down to the fact that Pittsburgh had a chance to sign a QB with a SB ring for veteran minimum. He was much cheaper than resigning Rudolph. Pickett was told he was QB1 initially because Rudolph was an unrestricted free agent and they had to bench Trubisky because he was awful and was going to be cut. I guess at that point he was going to be handed the job because he was a first rounder. Then Wilson came along and he knew it was going to be an uphill battle at minimum especially with the defensive veterans trying to recruit Wilson. Apparently the whole team wasn’t behind Pickett. Knowing all this he wanted out. It was the best move for all parties involved.

First of all, Nick Wright, and all of the folks who said Russ would have no market, were idiots! The Steelers knew the whole time they were going after Russ, and they knew the other teams would either target him or use him as leverage (e.g., Tampa). They were shadowing the Broncos’ moves, and the Broncos were dumb enough to not only release Russ but allow him to talk to teams before free agency began. The Steelers knew other teams were too. Russ was the top free agent in this class, no question. The media and fans (especially in Denver and Seattle) can pretend otherwise, but Russ was the prize! The Steelers got the prize. Good luck to Kirk Cousins in Atlanta, but the Steelers know the Falcons were going to target Russ, and if Russ hadn’t been available, Baker would have signed with Tampa for $50M more. He couldn’t drive as hard a bargain because of Russ. His availability depressed the market. After Russ signed with Pitts, the Vikings were too slow to lock down Cousins and he left.

I would like to have seen how productive K.P. could have been under the leadership & guidance of Arthur Smith. But in no way should any player be entitled to anything. And for the record, it wasn't all Matt Canada's fault. The Steelers have fired their OC, elected to not bring back Randy Fichtner as the OC, and traded Kenny Pickett. At what point does the HC become accountable for the Steelers Offensve failures?
