You should totally watch Sam Witwer’s breakdown of this duel. Basically Obi started off with Ewan McGregor’s Obi Wan stance because he got angry, that was the stance he used when fighting in a war. Then switched to Alec Guiness’s stance, and finally Qui Gon’s stance. Maul recognized that stance, so he tried to used the same move he used to kill Qui Gon. But Obi changed it.

It fits so well with the dialog too. Maul couldn't grow; he was always obsessed with revenge and power, and his obsession blinded him. But Obi-Wan was able to become more: "Look what I have risen above." Chills. Legit one of my favourite moments in all of Star Wars!

The most interesting part is they weren’t both looking for Obi-Wan. Ezra was looking for “the key to destroying the Sith” and Maul was looking for obi-wan. Ezra assumed they were looking for the same thing, but he was really looking for Luke.

"He will avenge us..." Despite everything that happened between them, in the end Maul recognized that both him and Obi Wan were victims of Palpatine; and that pained look Obi Wan gave in response, made it even sadder. In the end, this fight wasn't about getting revenge on Obi Wan, it was about getting closure. But he was pursuing a fight that was over a long time ago, and ultimately the closure he got was the end of his life; but perhaps that was what he truly wanted...

The way Obi-Wan was calmly talking things down to Maul the whole time until Maul finally revealed that he knew he was protecting the Chosen One, and the dawning look of horror on his face until he ignited his lightsaber, “the blue light of the protector” like Eric from Blind Wave said, and THAT is the moment Obi-Wan finally decided Maul had to go. And the fact that the duel is so quick. Obi-Wan showed in their argument that he had outgrown him, watched Maul’s form changes, and used the least possible amount of energy and power needed to finish the job, showing the true mark of mastery.

It was kinda disheartening, in my opinion. Not to mention, Ezra has already said a few times now that he *_doesn’t_* trust Maul. He hasn’t since what happened on Malachor. And I don’t think it’s really fair to blame him for so much when a lot of the time Maul is forcing or tricking Ezra to help him. And this time was obviously the latter. Maul simply took advantage of Ezra’s desire to do good and help someone.

If you pay attention, Obi-Wan went for his classic Lightsaber form/stance, but then switched it to Qui-Gon Jinn's form, causing Maul to be taken slightly aback. I believe he tricked Maul into attempting to kill him the same way he killed his master, and countered it by slicing the saber staff hilt in half before it could hit him while also landing the finishing blow on Maul. This was a battle of the minds as much as it it was a battle with lightsabers.

What’s brilliant about this fight is that Obiwan defeated Maul by baiting him. He went into Qui Gon’s lightsaber stance so Maul would try to kill him with the same move he used to kill Qui Gon (bash in the face with the hilt, then ran him through). The only difference is that Obi Wan cut vertically. Maul was consumed by hate. He never grew or changed or learned and in the end that inability to do so lead to him dying at the hands of someone who had.

OMG we've reached Twin Sons! The Obi-Wan vs Maul scene (not just the duel but the dialogue before that) is so awesome! I especially like how Obi-Wan says "if you define yourself by your ability to take life, your desire to dominate, to possess, then you have nothing." Like, he sees right through Maul; both of these men have endured great pain and loss but Obi-Wan found new meaning in his life while Maul continued to be obsessed with vengeance and it hindered his strength. Yeah, I know they're also polar opposite sides of the Force but you get the point. And then that duel demonstrates one of Obi-Wan's greatest strengths, learning from one's mistakes. He lured in Maul by using his master Qui-Gon's stance, calculated the moves Maul would utilize and then adapts perfectly to strike the killing blow! There's so much more to go into but better people than me can explain it thoroughly.

Good news, guys. u can watch Bad Batch and Ahsoka concurrently. And oh yes, season 4 has 15 episodes in total. With the last episode being a really long format finale. I have enjoyed these reactions. Like Clone Wars season 7, Rebels season 4 has a lot more "pods." Hopefully, you watch these arcs together even if they are not released like that.

Words cannot describe how truly perfect this episode is. I am absolutely certain that if you showed it to those stubborn as hell fans who say Star Wars stopped being good after the Original Trilogy they would cry their freaking eyes out at this episode.

While it was kinda sweet that Obi chosed to reveal to Maul what he wanted to hear about Luke.... it's funny to think that in truth Obi was also dead wrong about him being "The Chosen One".... cuz as we all know... The Real Chosen of the Force is wearing a Tar-Black Mask and commiting Genocides like it's a normal tuesday xddd.

One of the best fights done by Disney and in Star Wars. The stakes, the ambience, the dialogue, and the choreography. All top tier for me

The duel is perfection. Qui Gon stance to bait him is perfection, Kenboi is truly a Jedi Master at this point. He's let go, while Maul is still hanging on to his hatred and the past. The duel was over before it started.

15:35: He was forcibly raised into that toxic sith mentality though. Even Obi wan acknowledges it in the clone wars. He has never fully been able to let go of his higher purpose and master’s teachings

The fight is really good. Obi first uses the Ewan McGregor stance, then he switches to the Alec Guinness stance, then he switches to the Qui-Gon Jinn stance. Maul tries to win by using the same move he used to kill Qui-Gon (hitting him in the face with the hilt) but Obi predicts it and wins.

My favorite lightsaber battle in all of Star Wars. There's so much history and storytelling in it. Obi-Wan baits Maul by assuming the same stance Qui-Gon used, Maul falls for it and tries the same move, Kenobi then wins. He's grown and Maul hasn't.

“How come we never see any oceans on Tatooine? They don’t got any water?” 😑….🤨 Spidey? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! “I’m not leaving you with Maul” WOW! Ye of little faith! Damn, Rana! “I will mend this old wound.” That’s a reference to Old Wounds, an old what if style comic where robo legs Maul tracks down Obi to kill him. And it was before he was brought back in Clone Wars! His look in the latter was even inspired by the former

This episode was short and sweet, focusing primarily on Ezra's quest to Tattooine to find Obi-Wan Kenobi and recruit him to the Rebellion. As well as stopping Maul who also comes to the planet to have his final confrontation with the Jedi who has so defined his life. Hera and the rest of the crew are against Ezra going off on his own to find Kenobi, very likely a trap by Maul. As well as they need his knowledge in planning their assault on Lothal. Of course Ezra is going to act first and think second, commandeers an A-Wing and takes off for the Twin Suns. Chopper shows up as a stowaway and they make arrival to Tattooine. This goes as well as expected as they set upon by Tusken Raiders and who wind up destroying their ship, leading both Ezra & Chop to flee into the desert. Maul cuts the Tusken's celebration short as well as their lives and continues to follow Ezra knowing that he will lead him to Kenobi. Ezra braves the Dune Sea with Chopper reluctantly following him. They both nearly kark it with Chop's power drained and Ezra's passing out after fighting with his visions of Maul. Ezra wakes at nightfall seeing Chop restored and him at the camp-site of the legendary Jedi himself, Obi-Wan now old and wise. Ezra tries to recruit him to the Rebellion but Kenobi says he already has what he needs to fight the empire and to defeat the Sith. Obi-Wan has a his own path to follow, but Ezra says the Holocron lead him to you. Kenobi tells him it was Maul who led you to me, using your desire to do good as a Beacon to locate him. Maul makes his arrival known as he approaches the camp. Obi-Wan tells Ezra to go, but Ezra wants to make up for his mistake. Obi-Wan says Maul is not his responsibility but his, an old wound that must finally be healed. Both of these men meet again for the first time since the Clone Wars. Both have lost everything they once held dear, one has survived on hope the other on revenge. Obi-Wan says Maul's rage and hatred has left him with nothing, while he counters with what do you have left. Maul still as crafty as ever, deduces that it's not mere survival that drives Kenobi but a desire to protect someone. He will find them after finally killing him. Which leads to a epic showdown between the old Jedi Master and ex-Sith Lord. Obi-Wan shows off his past lightsaber stances before adopting his master Qui-Gon's stance. This long awaited rematch begins and is ended quickly with Maul felled after a few strikes between them. Obi-Wan holds the dying Maul in his arms, Obi-Wan does him kindness by telling him that the chosen one will avenge all who were victims of the Sith. For the first time in a very long time, the Dathomirian Darksider finds peace as he dies in his rival's arms. Ezra returns to Chopper Base aboard Maul's ship and tells the Ghost crew that Maul won't be a problem anymore. He tells them that they are his family and is sorry he didn't see it sooner. He is ready to go home and they set about their mission to Lothal. Back on Tatooine, Obi-Wan Kenobi watches over his charge, the young Luke Skywalker and his potential future. It was a very satisfying episode for the crew, finally Ezra overcoming his uncertainty and fear and knowing where he belongs. A fine conclusion to Maul's story, tragic but poetic. A wonderful performance by Sam Witwer giving depth and nuance to one of the most intriguing characters in Star Wars. Thanks guys for the reaction and I will catch you at the finale, peace
