I was really shy about it when I was little and I remember I met a girl who leaned in and whispered "I have that on my arms too" as if she found an ally, and I was so embarrassed for having it acknowledged in public (even if ever so quietly) that I turned beet red and walked away. I hope she didn't take it too personally.

Since I watched this video I started using the ingredients they recommended and after a few weeks I've started to really see some improvement. I shower and use an exfoliating scrub and scrubber, then I use the same face wash (clean and clear blackhead wash which has salicylic acid) on my arms and legs. I wash off and after the shower I put a low strength retinol all over my arms and legs, then I use Gold Bond foot cream (because the second ingredient is Urea and I think it works really well) on my arms. It's a bit more expensive, so I only use it on my arms because I don't really show my legs. So on my legs I just use whatever lotion I want. I've been doing this for a couple months and it's been getting better. But you have to be consistent.

Just fyi: People with brown or black skin can have keratosis pilaris as well and it does not appear as red bumps. On dark skin, the bumps can be a darker shade of brown than the overall skin tone OR on very dark skin, the bumps can be the same color as the skin. It's important to show photos representative of different skin tones so people can have a better idea of what these conditions look like and know how to describe the issues to their doctors.

I’ve had keratosis palaris my whole life and I’ve just learned to accept that I have bumpy skin. I remember asking my mom when I was very young why my skin was bumpy and she said the doctor told her it was just clogged hair pores and there was nothing we could do about it. I’m not sure I’ve ever met someone with it before but this video is so reassuring. This channel taught me what the condition is actually called and the fact that it’s genetic and incurable. I may give some of these products a try but honestly I feel like a weight has been lifted, knowing that it’s not my fault. Knowing that it’s not a lack of hygiene or something I’m doing to cause it. Thank you so much for that.

Yeah, actually I'm grateful for having this and blackheads, i had a ton of blackheads and a lot of people were telling me i lacked hygiene they advised me to clean my skin and squeeze them which only led to scars, darkening of the area, that made me feel disgusting and sad, even my siblings took a part in this. But now I'm very informed, it's just genetics so i can now INFORM others helping them not spread misinformation

I've been growing up with KP without knowing what it was. It really developed on my legs when I hit puberty and started to appear on my arms in my early 20s, too, and as a girl, it really affected my self-esteem since I felt and honesty still feel like I can't wear anything short because of all these red bumps. I'm 26 now. I'm a rather pale person, too, so they really stick out... In the last 10 years I've been to several dermatologists and none could help me, telling me it's hormonal, it's my skin being irritated by jeans, it's me being overweight (even though, I only got like 10kg extra since I have an underactive thyroid), etc. So, your video getting randomly recommended to me, was and is a real life saver for me. Finally, I know and understand what causes my skin to look like this. And I just wanted to say you thank you so so so so SO much!!

I just had to reach out and say I struggle too! I’m 27 and I always heard it was supposed to suppress in our adult years. My arms are okay. My legs are BAD! My aunt had the same thing (queue the genetics) and she got laser and it went away completely. And hers were so bad that they weren’t red, they were BLACK! Her hairs were just so dark. These Drs are correct, but it’s so exhausting having to use so many products to keep a continuous result. They work. But I’m lazy and I can’t seem to keep up. That’s my main problem with KP. It’s incurable so it’s a lifelong stress of being consistent. Anyway, I only said anything to make another sufferer of KP to feel like they aren’t alone ❤️

Im here to share with u guys how i deal with kp. After seeing this video i asked my dermatologist and now its been 1 week since i started this routine. But i really saw a difference within this week. My skin is smoother and rhe kp is reducing lil by little. My routine for the night : -shower with cerave oil foaming cleanser ( my dermatologist said no frgrance or harsh chemicals or soap on skin) -i apply Centaurea urea30 ( dermatologist said that i have to go with 30 and not less to improve my condition ) - i apply a really thic moisturizer called Newderm ( after checking the ingredients its similar to Cerave moisturizer cream but even better it had shea butter and niacinamide - for my legs i apply a Cerave Sa cream Morning routine : -i apply Cerave sa cream all over my body then apply a body sunscreen. My skin type is dry. If u have oily skin its better to have Cerave lotion instead of cream

A massive THANK YOU to Dr. Maxfield and Dr. Shah! I have tried tons of different remedies and ingredients for my stubborn, persistent KP (including most of the treatments mentioned in this video) and nothing has done much more than temporarily soften my skin. I added the CeraVe Psoriasis Moisturizing Cream into my routine about a month ago and I have seen incredible improvements in the hyperpigmentation and texture of my skin. Seriously a game changer for hard to treat cases of KP. Again, thanks for that exclusive!

I’ve had severe KP since I hit puberty (7 years old)… Honestly throughout most of my life, I’ve been so self conscious and tried many treatments to reduce my KP; however, the outcomes were always unsuccessful! Tbh, I’ve always been scared to be in relationships because of my skin condition due to fear of rejection.. Fast forward to 2017, I finally committed to be in a relationship but I still didn’t reveal to my bf that I had KP until 1 year into our relo.. Once I told him he actually started laughing because he thought it was ridiculous of me to be scared of revealing my skin condition to him.. He told me that my KP didn’t make me any different and that it was my unique feature. That statement right there is what boosted my self confidence. Now-a-days I’ve learnt to live with my KP without giving a damn what other people think lol.. I’m so glad to have my bf in my life who appreciates me for who I am all throughout! 😊..

I’m pretty thankful to my mom for taking care of my extremely bad KP for as long as I remember. It was definitely a lot of effort as she would have to scrub and try new creams on me to see what would work. And it was definitely difficult cause i was an rambunctious toddler. Now I have a routine of my own, I use the first aid beauty bump eraser scrub twice a week and in between I’d use a Korean exfoliating glove. Works great since I’m not letting the build get really bad often.

Fellow MD here (pediatrician), love your style and ease in explaining medical concepts. I also spend a lot of time addressing KP in my patients (hard for parents to often see in little ones expected to have flawless baby skin, they always assume it’s “allergic” and expect a work up.). I find addressing “why” is the key to understanding the “what” we do next. You guys are great! Keep up the great work ☺️

I remember when it all started for me... I was in 10th grade and wearing shorts, a classmate said oh you have goosebumps and I looked at my thighs and was like no that's just how my skin is. It was awkward. Nothing came of it bc it didn't cause any medical harm. I eventually learned it was something about the hair follicle and just they way my skin is. I had a best friend who was into tanning/ cared about having "nice skin" and I was so pale with red bumpy skin 🙁 I never struggled with acne but always wished I had 'clear' skin on my legs. 🤷🏻‍♀️ and my sister has psoriasis. I would get a random single red spot of it every few years but never broke out. Neither of us have eczema. My dad had KP. And for what's it worth. I appreciate the info you two share!! I'm all about the why and how. 👍

Sooo many times I've heard the "you've got goosebumps!" (Backs of upper arms) and I eventually just started saying "yeah I know" rather than try to explain. I'm well past grown now, and yes, it has "gone away" entirely. But I've passed it on to my children, 2 of which have also "outgrown" it as adults, but my 14 yo son is at the peak of it now. He's very patient in going through the motions of exfoliate, moisturize, rinse, repeat, etc. (at his inquiry and request) Side note; I developed psoriasis about 2 years ago, never thought about the two being related, but thinking it has to be, with the skin buildup etc. Suggestions are welcome, I want to scratch my foot off with a wire grill brush somedays 😬

i grew up with this being a HUGE issue during teen years and as a younger adult. these days at 27 some of the bumps remain, but the redness isn't really there anymore thankfully. idk if it's because my diet has changed over time, or if it's just something i was able to grow out of. either way i am greatful for this to be far less noticeable in my current life

I have been plagued with this my entire 53 years. I've tried the scrubs creams(including cera-ve, etc etc. Coconut oil was the only topical that ever helped at all, but still didn't get rid of it. When covid hit I began taking the recommended zinc supplement, daily. My KP cleared up completely, for the first time ever. I didn't realize, at first, why my skin was so smooth and clear. It wasn't until I ran out of zinc for a couple weeks, and the bumps began to reappear, that I wondered if that was what had been making the difference in my skin. I got back on the zinc and it cleared right back up. I will take zinc for the rest of my life!

I started out just having constant eczema everywhere on my body when I was little and as I grew older my rashes kept changing and becoming more severe. My rashes went from eczema, psoriasis, staph infection, and something that my dermatologist and other skin cancer facilities couldn’t pinpoint what it was but my face was swollen, oozing, infected and the top layer of my skin just cracked off and I had to undergo several antibiotics for 2 months and then cream for a year just to get it to go away. Since I was ten I have felt with kp and the only thing that helps with redness and roughness is black African soap scrub, retinol cream, and then a sensitive skin moisturizer once the retinol dries. Sensitive skin is rough and people will make fun and stare but you will get through it and learn to love yourself! Stay positive and stay strong.

I live in Florida and have KP. The weather has never made any difference on it. To treat my KP, I like to use an inexpensive exfoliating body wash, such as Amazon Basics Clarifying Pink Grape Fruit Body Wash, as it contains 2% salycilic acid (a beta hydroxy acid that functions as a keratolytic agent and helps keep pores clear), with an exfoliating cloth/mitt to buff the skin (this action is known as mechanical exfoliation) and also the regular use of Alpha Skin Care Renewal Body Lotion, as it contains 12% glycolic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid that promotes cell turnover), to soften the bumps. Applying the lotion immediately after showering at night is best. ⚠️ But one con of using an exfoliating lotion is that it makes the skin more vurnerable to the sun and one must use sunblock and avoid the sun like the plague.

Fun fact: I live in the UK and our CeraVe SA has 10% urea rather than glycerin as the second ingredient. It is amazing against KP (I suffer from it on my upper arms). Such a shame that it is not sold in the same format elsewhere because it contains lactic and salicylic acid, urea and ceremides.

I started using it about a year ago after my KP migrated from just my upper arms to all over my arms. My Mum being a typical Mum waited until we were all out in public to ask why I had a bad rash, I had tried the soap and glory moisturiser and the Pixi wash and moisturiser so when I saw Cerave recommended I bought it and it has made a huge difference. I put the wash on and leave it for a couple of minutes before using a scrub cloth over it. It got a bit worse this winter but Cerave is a game changer. I used to get such itchy skin as well especially in summer and didn't last summer. I wonder why the US one isn't the same?

I've contacted Cerave to see why they don't sell higher strengths like the Psoriasis specific one they mentioned in the UK! :( It's such a shame we don't get much of a choice here. Same with retinols and lash serums. They won't approve them because of risk of reactions and the % of ingredients here. But they work better in higher doses as long as it's monitored and used with the right SPF.

You know ive had KP over my entire body (except oddly my face) my entire life and I just started researching how to treat it. I started using the Cerave psoriasis cleanser and the Cerave psoriasis moisturizer along with an "ingrown hair/KP" brush and in just two weeks my skin feels absolutely amazing, ive never been able to run my hands on my skin and not "catch" on the bumps. Now my skin feels like butter! And the spots have visibly improved! Still a long way to go but im planning on adding amlactin to my routine!

This was incredibly informative and helpful! I have KP and I've been using Amlactin for a year and have noticed a HUGE difference in my skin. My skin has never been so soft in my life! Yes, the smell is off putting, but after it sets in your skin you can't smell it anymore. It's 100% worth it! I ordered the KP duty scrub I can't wait to add it to my routine. 😊😊

Hi I’m in 1 week using Amlactin 12% lactic. I apply it once everyday. First few applications, I didn’t have any reaction but then Ive started to get red, irritated and itchy bumps here and there whenever I lather it on. Idk if I’m getting allergy or just over exfoliating symptoms. If anyone have the same problem please help me out 😢

Thank you for this video. I recently figured out this is what I have all over. I thought it was an allergy to something, this it isn’t. My youngest son has it too. He hates the way lotions feel so it’s hard to get him to use anything. I know this video is over a year but it’s still very helpful. I’m glad I found your channel 💚💚
