Leaving Whanganui I headed up the west coast and arrived in Taranaki just in time for the coast to go flat. I had fished in the 'naki before but never really dived it so after a bit of an explore I headed to a spot that I knew had some reef and got the kayak ready to go...
Once on the water I tried a couple of different spots before I came across a nice nest of crayfish! and after a breath up I dropped down onto them and managed to grab four crayfish on one breath! After another couple of dives I had my limit of crayfish so pulled the spear gun out and a Jonh Dory was added to the catch.
The next morning found me a bit further north at another beach and this time it was a shore dive mission, off the beach I found a reef that had an old shipwreck on it and sure enough there were crayfish there as well, I had given away some of my crayfish from the day before so I took the chance and grabbed a few more.
Later I make it to Auckland and head to my sister's place to cook up the John Dory and a crayfish for a shared meal...
