Again, we find ourselves camping in the rain in our tiny VW campervan with our dog. We took our VW California to the Lake District to stay at the Camping and Caravanning club site in Keswick, on the shores of Derwentwater which commands one of the best views in the UK, as you can see a number of Wainwrights surrounding the water with the larger fells in the distance, including Scafell Pike, highest mountain in England.
The rain was fairly consistent so we put on our Goretex jackets and trousers, put Jack in his new Ruffwear waterproof coat and went for a hike around the lake, finished the day off in the pub for good measure.
Our final day was spent in Whinlatter forest. We attempted to cook our dinner bushcraft style but the firewood was soaking so a trusty old gas stove came to the rescue. As you'll see, the views of the snow capped mountains (Blencathra and Skiddaw) were breathtaking!
