Oh man, one of the best moments in my life. I loved the way Raja Sir praised him! You can see that he was genuinely proud and shared the moment with AR. It was as if everyone in India won an Oscar too. We all felt that way only because of AR's humbleness.

many fools took this speech as ilaiyaraja's jealousy but he cleverly say ARR did so much awesome work (much better than slumdog millionaire) but the flower who went to oscar is that slumdog millionaire score, even ARR himself said later that I received oscar and grammy for Slumdog Millionaire but he didn't feel like Slumdog Millionaire was his best work

ARR is just a composer that's all. Ilayaraja legend. Composes just in minutes. No failure in his music and songs. quality, 100 percent manual, reality. ARR cannot be compared with ilayaraja. ARR takes year to finish one project. World's wonder is ilayaraja. People who do not know music in depth should not pass comments about ilayaraja.

Rahman is India's pride. He's incomparable as a musician and also as a human being. 2 Oscars,bafta ,Golden globe is not a easy thing. Ppl here talk about touching heart bla bla. Jeicha katradhu dhan matter. Rahman jeichitar. Here I didn't degrade any music director. Coz Rahman told us not to talk badly about other music directors. Ella pugazhum iraivanukey. Gavaskar sachin and kohli batting cannot be compared as all the 3 are from different generations likewise msv sir raja sir and Rahman sir cannot be compared, father's music taste will be entirely different from a son's music taste, different generations different times different mindsets, no comparisons required between rahman sir fans and raja sir fans.

Beyond the tensions astray comparing the music creators, I guess it is the receptacle that is playing a primary part. The personality which hears the music and receives it is the most important thing. That way, the binary that IR x ARR is not due to the music:s relevance or quality or creativity or innovation. It is predominantly decided based on the PERSON who hears the music. With that premise, I would say Appollonysiun vs Dionysian dichotomy theory is in play here. Vijay Baskar, Ilayaraja kooda thaan 5 National Awards vaaginaaru! 3 of Ilayaraja's National Awards came in the 80's when there was NO separate category for Background Score and Best Songs. So, the first 3 awards includes awards for BOTH songs & Background Scores. Don't steal Ilayaraja's titles like God, Maestro etc. MAESTRO was EARNED by Ilayaraja for scoring NON-film albums - How to Name it and Nothing but Wind. It is NOT a mokkai title like thalai, thalapathi, thalaivar etc.!

Vijay Baskar, ILAYARAJA is the ONLY MAESTRO because he is the ONLY COMPOSER in INDIA who CONDUCTS & WRITES musical NOTATIONS (hand-written notes) for every instrument and every MILLIBAR of each instrument (that's what makes his songs EMOTE even when played on instrument!). Adhellaam ippo irukkira "electronic" system la vara disposable crap songs ketkira vargathukku puriyaadhu! FIRST ASIAN to compose SYMPHONY 5 times, since 1993 for Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of LONDON.

ven kat, YES, thanks to you all! I NEVER said he was not talented as a composer. I just said there have been MANY composers before him who DESERVED more and many a recognition but did not get anything including Ilayaraja. For example, MSV or RDB never even got a National Award. Does it mean they composed crap? Hell, no. It is just like the stupid vijay fans now going gaga over some "international award" and calling him "international actor"! :-P No, I'm not equating that actor with arr. Just saying, popularity is NOT to be equated with genius.

Tamil music has more western influence now & losing its identity....music composers have changed the people's taste....and so present generation could not appreciate heart touching melodious songs & expect songs with more western touch...music is not listened with the heart now but only with the head....So people will become insensitive to feelings in future!

sundarmudhra, nowadays music is listened to with NOT EVEN heads (just headphones and hearing ability). That's all. So, the songs disappear from the SAME people's hearts like petrol evaporates! Everything is DISPOSABLE now including music. They listen to music for a few days or weeks. And boom, another crap comes in, the old ones are forgotten. I really wonder how this ARR accepted slumdog millionaire offer . No Indian music director would have accepted it . What is great in getting an Oscar for a movie which brings down India's Pride . For lumpsum salary and fame this ARR put India's Pride down .If ARR got an Oscar for an Indian movie or atleast a foreign movie which makes Indians proud there is a point in celebrating .

A.r Rahman cannot compose like ilayaraja....ilayaraja cannot compose like ARR....both have unique styles....artists who receive prestigious awards need to be appreciated but every person has his own favourite musician who touches his heart...For example U1 has not received any award...but he touches the heart of many by his music...so have Ur own favourite music composer but do not argue that he is the best because everyone's taste is different!

What Ilayaraja has is PRIDE, often mistaken as arrogance by FAKE humility lovers like you and your co. Ilayaraja ALWAYS has a HUGE RESPECT for his art, MUSIC and its predecessors. Paradox, Ego is lame people's word. What Ilayaraja has is PRIDE. Pride is OFTEN mistaken by people who love to hear sweet sugar-coated words, manipulated speeches, for-the-sake-of-stage humility, flattery etc. Basic INDIAN mentality. You will not find these words like ego, humble etc. in the WEST! Yaaru fan boy? arr has fan boys. MSV was considered rude during his peak in the 60's. Everyone, basically, who speaks their mind out and are PROUD of their work are considered egoistic or arrogant by such lame crowd.

Then, "Oorvasi", "Rukkumani", "Kuchi kuchi", "Chandralekha", "Kokku saiva kokku", "Thee thee", "Gopala", "Mayya", songs of Rangeela, New, Romeo etc.... are DIVINE Senthamizh songs that could be sung in MOSQUES, Temples & Churches??!
