An interesting interview Marc Lowrance conducted with the von Erich brothers around Christmas of 1989. This is from the former World Class, a post-merger USWA. It's interesting because storyline-wise, it seems like the two brothers are very much headed in the direction of a match (or even a feud?)*. I know there's stuff on KZfaq with Kerry as a heel, did Kevin ever turn? The vibe is kind of off with the two brothers, so I'm wondering where the booking was headed. Does anyone know what eventually happened?
*Or that could just be me with wrestling brain thinking that if they lean hard in one direction, they're definitely going in the opposite direction.

Everyone I've ever heard and said that Kerry Von Erich was the sweetest dude you could possibly meet. Whenever you hear him talk and interviews you can tell it's hard for him to be mean or aggressive in any way. Such a shame

David was heel in many territories as he travelled in prep of becomming world champ. He was always a good guy in Texas. That was the beauty of the territory days. You go to another territory with a fresh start cause there was no national cable TV to see other territories on. Actually WCCW was the first territory to have national TV expsure. What made David special was he was great on the mic, he could work with anyone big, small, fast, strong, young, old, didn't matter and he could work heel as good as he could face. He wasn't a one trick pony. Thats why he was in line to get the big belt.

WCCW was also the first territory to have serious international exposure I believe. I know they were mega-celebrities in Israel.

dang Kerry and those stone washed jeans and Perfect camera view!!! This was a great interview by the way, the brothers love each other and always had each others' backs, no one could come between them.

I remember during this era...they were setting up a angle with Kerry and Kevin facing each other. I think Kerry was going to turn heel if memory serves correct.

That was original idea and placing him with Benoit late wife. But fritz was so against it .I herd suppose happened after he won nwa title .but fritz was so against it he thought it would divide the fans

If I recall Gary hart wanted do something new n make one von Erich s a heel cause freebird fuel was played out. N he didn't like idea of ice man parsons a blk man in freebirds . Bein freebirds represent the confederate state n flag. Had fritz went along it would brought fans back to see who the better von Eric was. This interview you see Kerry get little arrogant with kevin.

Thats a lie cause Fritz wouldnt allow the brothers to turn heel thats why he and his David Von Erich had fallen out before his death cause David wanted to become a heel.

It seems that way, doesn't it? I guess we'll never know. The post-merger iteration of World Class wasn't long for the world after this, if I remember correctly. I remember it went from "USWA Legends" to Global as my after school wrestling viewing on ESPN when I was younger.

@@ProWrestlingRoots the heel tirn was brought up several occasions Gary hart wanted do heel turn after Kerry won belt then again at 2 ND parade of champions when Kevin faced flair .supposed Ben Kerry costing Kevin a shot at title. But both times fritz was against it. Then twords the end Gary n mantel both wanted do it again honestly it could have saved world class because by then the Freebird feed nobody was interested in anymore they're worse mistake was when they brought Iceman Parsons in

@@diablo666541 “After he won NWA title..” Are you talking about when Kerry beat Flair for NWA title at Texas Stadium right after David died? At the time the NWA title was run by the NWA Board of Directors out of Kansas City. It was a traveling title. The champ went from territory to territory wrestling the best in each territory. Flair was scheduled to drop the belt to David but he died so they dropped it to Kerry. According to Flair podcast Kerry was supposed to keep it for several months or a year or so. However after Flair dropped the title he had a series of matches in Asia. While in Asia NWA called him & said they were adding one more match. Seems Kerry no-showed his very 1st title defense. NWA board was so angry that they flew Kerry to Asia to drop belt back to Flair. NWA also decided that no von Erich would ever win NWA belt again. They can wrestle for it when the champ comes to town but they can never win it. That’s one of the reasons why WCCW pulled out of NWA. Fritz wanted one of his boys to win the World title & NWA wasn’t having it. Several wrestlers have said that Fritz turned a blind eye to his kids’ drug issues. According to Jim Cornette podcast, Flair was supposed to wrestle Kerry one night but as Kerry’s music was about to come on no one could find Kerry. They found him semi-passed out (high) in his car. They got him awake good enough to get into the ring. WCCW told fans Kerry had the flu & a 103 degree fever but didn’t want to disappoint his fans. That’s why he looked and acted so badly.
