Super great compilation from '53! Even before great Rock n'Roll music hit the scene in about '56, great Rhythm and Blues tunes were the real king of music.

"Golden Teardrops" and "My Saddest Hour" were just 2 of many reasons 1953 was my favourite year of music. I bought my first records that year.

My mother and father moved from a mountain in puerto rico when i was three yesrs old. We moved to a fourth floor apartment in harlem nyc. Our upstairs neighbors were black brother hugo and his sister omara. To me they were the kindest and most hospitable persons i ever met in my whole life. God bless them both. One day while i was visiting them i heard a record that sounded great to me. It was “mercy mercy baby” by clyde and billy and the boys. To me that will always be a great memory. I am now in my late seventies. Rene now from jersey.

Blues, Gospel, and Rhythm & Blues became known as DOO WOP much later than 1953.. The Moonglows were early leaders of the "SOUND" and many of their nuances went on to be used over and over for years...

In this way happen too with " Rock and Roll " term, before Alan Freed called of this way to much songs, the people called them " jumpin' blues ", " Race records", " country boogie " or " Hillbilly songs" (for example) although over the 2nd middle of the 40's ( some years before inclusive ) the musical structure already was determined, very close of the rhythm called R & R, even more, that many songs of this time included the words 'Rock and Roll ' in they lyrics,But Was till that Alan Freed called " Rock and Roll "in the sense that we know today and only till then, the " Rock and Roll " term appears as it's... well I say so...

Doowop was an invention made for rock & roll revival shows. In the 50's the music you are listing to was either rock & roll or rhythm & blues. No such a thing as doowop an invention of the late 70's early 80's record companies.

I had no idea that "A Thousand Stars" by Cathy Young was a cover..
@robbk15 жыл бұрын
It WASN'T a "cover". It was a remake. A "cover" was a record that another company released to piggyback on a record that had already been released and was selling well, that the second company could gain sales from the public's recognition of that same song. When so-called "Rock & Roll" started, that was a way that record companies could have their Caucasian "Pop" artists record an R&B song, and the song could reach a much, much larger audience than just The African American community, and the handful of Caucasians and other non-African-Americans who knew of that music and were actually "allowed" to buy it. Pat Boone singing Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti" was a cover. Bill Haley and His Comets singing The Cues' "Burn That Candle" was a cover. The Diamonds singing The Gladiolas' "Little Darlin' " was a cover. The Crew Cuts singing The Chords' "Sh-Boom" was a cover. Covers came out at the same time a record was having its run, and the sales of the 2nd record were many, many times greater than the original, covering it like a blanket. During the 1940s, and 1950s, there were also genre covers. C&W producers would produce C&W versions of R&B hit songs, and vise versa. When a new record comes out using the same song as someone else recorded one year or more before, it is a "remake".

Doo wop was a term that never existed until the late 60 s. In the good old days it was just rock n roll or rhythm n blues

BTW, Doowop was over at the British Invasion, 1962, Beatles. You are sooo Wrong.
@hillcresthiker6 жыл бұрын
The Doo Wop you are referring to in the Turbans record is simply a nonsense phrase that was sung as backup. The Doo Wop Mr B was referring to, is a musical style- which as he said, did not come into usage until the late 60s and early 70s.
