Sounds like the lovechild of a hurdy gurdy and a taishokoto

making the number and position of picks changeable to create different rhythmic pulses would be a cool upgrade

Yes, wood has a softer sound, but I like to push the boundaries sometimes😉I'm pleased that you like it anyway🙂

Very interesting and cool, but wouldn't the mechanism for striking the string make it a fundamentally different category of instrument than a hurdy gurdy?

You're absolutely right, but I haven't found this new and more appropriate category yet. Maybe you can help me?

I would say it is keyed mechanical balalaika/dombra. Good idea! I would recommend to find different resonator to make sound more pleasure. I love it

I have already tried to achieve a softer sound with a ukulele as a sound box (watch kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j5eJmKyD0avVgaM.html ). Anyway, great that you like it 👍 and I'll keep working on it 🙂

Not really a hurdy gurdy because the string seems to be plucked rather than bowed by the wheel. Nonetheless, this is pretty cool!

No, not really a Hurdy Gurdy, but rather a "scratch Gurdy" 😉 Anyway, great you like it!

It's a classical Rondo by Muzio Clementi. The melody also became popular with the song "A Groovy Kind of Love".

Small spikes of nylon cord are attached to the wheel, which touch and pick the strings when the wheel is turned.
