This is a set of four 30-second spots promoting KFSN-TV's (Fresno, Ca.) switch from CBS to ABC in September 1985. These promos were originally on TV-Ark.
The first three spots feature KFSN anchors John Wallace, Dan Taylor (sports), and Nancy Osborne, while the fourth promotes a "premiere party" featuring the airing of the "Dynasty" pilot movie, and a locally-produced special. It's probably safe to say KFSN's final CBS broadcast was the Sept. 8, 1985 airing of "60 Minutes".
The switch was necessitated when KFSN's parent, Capital Cities Communications, purchased ABC. Fresno's previous ABC affiliate, KJEO-TV (now KGPE) picked up CBS. John Wallace now works at KGPE, while Dan Taylor and Nancy Osborne are still at KFSN.

I think KFSN's saving grace for these promos was Frank Gari's "Stand Up & Tell 'Em Fresno's Great!"

It's been so long since that happened I almost forgot about it. I totally forgot that John Wallace used to be on channel 30 after seeing him on 47 for so long.

It was from a syndicated version of "The Price is Right" that aired for one season in 1985-86. And notice that it isn't Bob Barker holding the michrophone -- it's Tom Kennedy who hosted this version.

The first syndicated version was hosted by Dennis James in the 1970s and the last syndicated version was hosted by Doug Davidson in the 1990s. There hasn't been a syndicated version since. It's only CBS network Weekday morning airings with Drew Carey.

Good times. Ironically, my woodshop teacher's daughter was Ann Notarangelo who was with the station for some time before coming to KPIX in San Francisco. Irrelevant info, but that's how I remember KFSN

And Wheel started to air on 30 that year, too, correct? I thought I heard that 47 carried the show for the first two years... EDIT: Correction-- both Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune have been on 30 from the beginning. (47 only carried daytime Wheel during Bob Goen's run.)

You're right, it wasn't Bob Barker, now that I looked more closely. I thought that since KFSN was still a CBS affiliate at the time, they mistakenly put that clip in the promo.

KFSN-TV is owned and operated by the ABC owned television stations.

Now I'm curious if channel 47 did some "affiliation switch" promos as well-- when going from ABC to CBS.

Nice, KFSN got rid of CBS, RIGHT before the network started to nose dive

The timing was coincidental. Capital Cities owned KFSN but in 1985 they purchased the ABC television network, obviously they’re going to put their programming on their owners station.

I have an inkling that the last cbs program on KFSN could have been 60 minutes but possibly may have been The CBS Sunday Night News at 11:30pm

WRAL went from ABC to CBS as part of this deal, causing ABC to affiliate with WTVD. Less than 31 years later WRAL became an NBC affiliate.

These changes were due to Capital Cities Communications, which owned WTVD and KSFN, buying ABC. The stations became ABC O&Os (and still are today).

Notice how the ABC promo included a snippet from The Price Is Right. Oops.

Wasn't there a syndicated version of "Price Is Right" in the mid 1980's? If so, maybe KFSN carried the syndicated version. Or, the CBS affiliate there decided not to air the show (but I wonder why, given that "Price" has long been one of daytime TV's most popular shows_.

@@altfactor Yes, there was. And that was Tom Kennedy in the clip, so I imagine 30 did carry syndie TPIR in 1985.

When CBS ran The Price is Right in the 9:30-10:30 timeslot, KFSN indeed did not air the show in Fresno. They aired Phil Donahue 9-10 and the CBS 9am show at 10. Strangely KJTV/KPWR Bakersfield aired The PTL Club at 9-10, the CBS 9am show at 10, and actually aired The Price is Right at 4:30-5:30 pm! KPIX San Francisco also did not air TPIR. They aired a local talk show instead and independent station KTZO ran TPIR.

When you're switching FROM CBS to another network...and still using CBS-produced animation (We've Got the Touch - the "channel 30" follows the trend)...hmm. And is that Ed O'Brien's voiceover on the final promo?

KGET Bakersfield, although they knew they were switching to NBC on 3-4-84, continued to use We've Got the Touch You and 17 until the last week of February.

KFSN 30 is an ABC owned and operated station. "Owned by O&O" doesn't make sense.
