I just moved back to Portland and was sad to see that the big parade doesn't even go through downtown; the heart of the city.

They changed the routes so that the Starlight parade would be on the west side of the river and the Grand Floral be on the east side. Having back to back parades within a week of each other going through downtown is such a clusterfuck.

It was a downtown tradition for years and years. I won't go see it in person until it returns downtown. The city is making a mistake by not bringing it back the way it was. I would buy food and go shopping afterwards in downtown. everything was more magical.

I can get that, but as someone who matched in the parade this year, I can't even imagine how bad the longer routes must have been to march in, especially with how hot it can be.

I was in the first marching band, and it was definitely an experience, especially being next to the Pro-Palestine protests and playing Stars and Stripes Forever, which made me feel so bad. Didn’t help that there was a guy playing the drums and we were next to the judges. Anyway, it was a fun experience for my first time, and I’m glad I dodged the heat and that my director was the Grand Marshall

I used to watch Richard Ross and Betty White do the Rose festival parade every year down by the Colosseum I miss those times.
