These existential set-pieces are like being interrogated on what the fuck you've been doing with your life by David Bowie in the best possible way.

Instead of shying away from difficult themes like alcoholism, failure, divorce, suicide, drug abuse and mental health issues, Disco Elysium tackles these head on. That’s what makes it one of the most important games ever made.

The whole point of the game is to explore those issues. It is more about HOW they did it that makes it a great Game taking the best the medium can offer (music, gameplay, story, art)

@@juansotomayor9076 Yes and also that these are its themes. At most, we'll see other games/movies/albums, etc. that feature a divorce or something as a plot-mechanic to move it forward, or use alcoholism as a character trait (maybe even helps people understand what that means). This bunches a load of these uncomfortable things together, uses them as actual themes and treats them as the subject matter itself, and shows that it can understand all of these things by seeing them interact with one another. Products of trauma don't exist in a vacuum after all, they're more of a web. It also has the privilege video-games have so it isn't as restrained in length/content as most other forms of media are, and is able to delve deep into them.

I really didn’t like how it did it. It glorified drug abuse, it’s even the optimal gameplay strat to become a druggie

Whatever the ex-something took from you, there is still the other half of your soul's journey remaining. The odyssey of self-discovery is never limited to the afflictions of the apricot shadow. Sad though it may be upon the hearing of it, life and love go on beyond the termination of the ex-something.

please, just for god's sake, continue these "lost in reverie" extracts. Oh, these perfectly narrated texts of existential dread. They make my being in this world more tolerable for me. Lol. Thank you.

How is it that in their dread they are strangely comforting? Listening to the extracts of ancient reptilian brain I feel at peace and estranged from everyday reality, but also I do feel like my soul, the consciousness manifested by the biochemical mass is rising in favour against it. To tell the subconscious it is wrong and it shall be proven through heroic deed. Overcoming human limitations and ailments the brain ridicules. The boisterousness, Harry's emotional eruptions in past life... No matter. Thank you, brain, thank you the author, narrator you have set the path of me finding my meaning straight.

Just rewatching this video over and over, thinking of a friend who had the bad day. Same way, even. Somehow this is what it takes to feel real, lets me feel closer to where his mind might have been. Rip, Kef. We heard about it on the phone.

This scene seems very important to the game. You can see the 'Disco' and the narration is talking about 'Elysium'. I guess this is where Harry's idea for the name of the club game from, consciously or not.

This scene especially, hit me so hard, it Bitch smacked me back into the past. I had to turn the game off and recoup. I hope we all can face our fury’s and not ignore them as an illusion just because we can’t see it. This game will “Ted talk” you into salvation if you can face it.

I listen to the lost in reverie playlist as if it’s ASMR. The narrator’s voice is fantastic and the depressing dialogue is exactly the thing I wanted to hear when I want to relax or go to bed.

Back in the day I wasn't sure about one fact, but now I am convinced that there are two different voice actings to this scene. When I played Disco Elysium for the first time I heard this one: Ancient Reptilian Brain is noticeably aggressive and Limbic System is a bit fast. But for my second playthrough and then both of them sound different: Reptilian Brain is very calm and Limbic System is much more emotional. I have no idea how it changes if it can be changed at all.

Anyone kind of prefer this performance to the Final Cut version? This one sounds more angry, more in your face. The Final Cut bloated corpse is a lot more reserved and quiet.

I liked the final cut VO, but the redo of this sequence in particular I thought was a downgrade. This original has so many standout moments, and the pacing is perfect.
