Kia and Hyundai are pure crap. The Koreans build cars just like they build home appliances - price them cheap and make them look expensive and consumers will unknowingly flock to them. Ask any independent mechanic and they will confirm.

Took my Honda in for service and asked them to look for a slow leak in the rear driver side tire. They informed me that the tire was unfix able and a new tire at $250+installation, balancing, tax, and tire disposal fee. I declined to be robbed and took it to my local garage, the tech found the nail in about 2 minutes, plugged the tire and charged me $6. I gave him $10 and refused change. They were honest, competent and have enjoyed my business to this day.

I'm with Scotty re: Kia...they are garbage and always having issues with fires. People who buy them always say that they've had no problems with theirs blah blah blah...but with all the recalls from Theta II engines to faulty ABS modules and all the issues that cause fires you'd have to be crazy to trust them with the safety of your family. Recently a Hyundai Tuscon (made in the same factory) broke down on the side of the highway by my home and burst into flames. There were 2 children in car seats in the back...if a good samaritan hadn't stopped to help the lady get the children out of their car seats, one of those children would have died. So why would anyone trust these vehicles?

The old Kia Souls with the conventional automatics were more reliable than the 3rd generation that came out for 2020 I think it was. My wife has a 2023 Kia Soul, the driver's window works but the other three windows most of the time they go down but not up. I already changed the master window switch once with a $100 genuine OEM part and it worked for two months and then it crapped out as well. Currently at 15k miles and the windows still don't work, last Kia dealer I took it to (Kia of Bridgewater) they scratched the heck out of the driver's door and I never went back. Now I'm in contact with a service manager at another Kia dealership that says it's probably sensing resistance as it goes up so as a safety it's cutting out the current flow to the motor. I already cleaned the tracks really well and still does it. Also the horn won't blow if it's too cold outside, if the temperature drops to freezing you got no horn.

I wouldn't buy anything made in the USA, seems build quality and reliability is junk. Though I would be interested in a Silverado. Daily viewing of Scotty's videos helped me and my wife break with Hyundai for a new Honda Accord Hybrid ELX for less than the cost of the new Sonata limited Hybrid. This is a change for us since our 2007 Sonata Limited is still going over 200K Miles...though we did scammed for tires for life.

I've been happy with my Hyundai Kona, so far. However, when it comes to getting it serviced (other than warranty work) I'll be taking it to a local shop that I trust. Don't get suckered by the "free maintenance" offers. The service department is where they make the most money and the service writers are on commission.

I had an early sportage(the ones people said were the worst years) and that thing ran like a champ for years. No issues. Drove it cross country also. Only problem is the front tire exploded and took out the fender and all that wiring and it was toast after that. But till then no issues, no oil burning or anything else.

Just buy a GOOD USED vehicle... I just bought a really nice 2009 Honda Accord with 300kms on it for 4 grand. Look, the worst repair is going to be an engine or transmission which is going to be 4 grand or so.. How many transmissions and engines can you replace for 50 grand? These new vehicles are junk as we all know!

I have a 2012 limited and was told that the computer has gone bad 1700. I have looked for an after market and seems none are made. Do you have any advice? You’re correct about it being a god vehicle, this is my 2nd Rav 4, and really it’s been a great car. I’m keeping it so must repair this one. Thank you in advance.

People take product engineering for granted, but it is challenging. Some companies like Toyota spend years making minor refinements trying to get things right. While other companies like Samsung send children to build things out of plastic, leading to house flooding washers and worthless refrigerators. One important engineering concept is you have to be especially careful when adding unnecessary features that when they fail bring down all the critical components with it (seat controls in this case). Some years back they decided to update older jetliners with screens on the back of the headrests. Unfortunately on one of the planes the wiring caught fire and it crashed in the Atlantic off of Canada.

My husband had an i dependant shop for 27 years, specualizing in Honda/Acura. Honda's started losing their #1 position about 8 to 10 years ago. If you're going to buy a Honda, get an older one. We have 2002 Accord that hubs uses for work and also for us to drive around town instead of putting miles on our classics. The Accord has 350,000 miles on it, and aside from little repairs here and there, it's still running great and gets great gas mileage.

At 1:00-1:15, where he mentions that a year with an identical issue isnt part of the recall has happened before. It was on Forensic Files; a woman had a Mercury Cougar that caught fire because of a faulty ignition switch. Ford had recalled cars for the ignition switch, but her car was not an affected year. But the switch from her car was the exact same part number as one the recalled switches!!

3:17 “vertical integration makes sense” which is one of the reasons Tesla makes constant improvements to quality and cost of its cars. Tesla is one of the most vertically integrated companies on the planet. Still, it doesn’t make everything it builds into a car, the windshield wiper motor being used for the cyber truck, for instance, has recently been at the center of a big recall. I heard that motor was made in Mexico, and not by Tesla. The problem may not have been with the motor, but with how it was being used by Tesla, don’t know, but this illustrates how overall quality can be compromised when the companies products, rather than built from the ground up are composed of parts supplied by independent vendors.

Mazda makes great cars. My sister has had the same Mazda 3 since 2007. She has not had anything of any kind go wrong with it. It still drives just like it did the day that she bought it. I had and 02 Mazda 2. I had a heater core fail due to a previous mechanic putting the wrong coolant in it. Ultimately I gave that car to one of my son's friend. He just replaced the radiator, probably due to the same error by the mechanic. Just the same, the car is 22 years old and that's all that's gone wrong with it. Mazda make really good cars.
