I decide to go for a nice morning cruise and talk about my experience owning the Kia Stinger GT2 AWD long term. Build quality, performance, weird issues? I'm trying to go over as much as I can to help anyone looking to buy a used Stinger be confident they're making the right decision.

I got a GT2 and i think its the best balanced car you can get for the price. Especially if you can get a good low milage second hand one. They have 7 years of warranty whereas the german counterparts got 3 years. Made a big difference for me.

Agreed. I got mine towards the end of 2018 with around 7k miles on it for a price I couldn’t pass up. The second hand warranty gave me the peace of mind to take a chance on it, and I’m glad I did.

An engine being powerful does not make it inspiring. A 911 Turbo is faster than a GT3, but if I’m picking one for just pure driving enjoyment, I’m picking the GT3 every time. The sound and characteristics of an engine are just as important, if not more than peak horsepower numbers. Also, build quality is all over the place with Stingers. Mine’s an early model year, but I’m sure they might have improved in later years. I can only speak to my experience.

@@williambiel his point is you contradicted yourself in the video…There will always be a better car out there but for it’s segment and more specifically for its price point, the Stinger GT2 is a beast. The only true direct competitors are the M440i and the S5 SB. The first is definitely a better car but it costs significantly more and the second is slower while costing more as well.

Got a 2018 gt2 rwd with 50k miles, definitely a fun car for your average person who doesn’t need 500+hp to have fun driving. Gets up to 120mph quick and is nimble at high speeds. It gobbles up snack packs, 5.0’s, and camaros all day so definitely more punch than mopar off the line. But its missing the sound from the exhaust for sure, borla is the way to go. Its cheap to mod past 400hp. Main problem isnt the kia badge but the dealerships, they charge up the ass for routine work and buying one from them is horrendous. It gets good mileage for road trips considering the power, i avg 27+mph cruising at around 90. Get plenty of compliments and confused head turns especially since i took all kia badges off! Theyre reliable enough to buy used unlike scatts and cats. The rattle is annoying tho, especially if the car has ice on it, the rattle sounds horrible.

Wow fella! If it bugs you that much, get out of it! This whole thing was a ramble of complaints. The brakes…I changed mine for slotted and drilled rotors and top quality pads…problem fixed. The uninspiring engine note….got a bimodal exhaust on mine and it sounds better. I’ve owned a lot of top shelf cars and I’ve got to say, the Stinger still puts a smile on my dial. Good looking, fast, practical, capable, roomy and loaded with a lot of stuff. What’s not to love? Also rear wheel drive and not that common. I still have people buzzing around the car on the road to gawk at it. Best all rounder I’ve ever owned, and with a hatch to boot! Excellent car..

Someone who owns V8, EV and Stinger. I sold my 2012 Infiniti G37xS for the Stinger. It’s not a perfect car but bang for the bucks. Stinger does feel special and unique because you don’t see too many! I’m surprised how many compliments I get in the road. KIA hit home run hiring engineered by former BMW M Vice President of Engineering Albert Biermann and Ex designer Audi Peter Schreyer. Over time , the car will be more appreciated possible future classic when people get over KIA badge. If this same car had BMW badge or Lexus be asking 70k

I switched out my 2018 BMW 440i M-sport for a 2021 Stinger gt1 and just switched that out for a 2021 BMW M340i. I really liked the Stinger but it was missing things and I overpaid at the time. I got the M-340i for the same price as the Stinger and it only had 4k miles on it. The Stinger had 7k when i got it and never gave any issues throughout the 8k i put on it. I wish i could've kept it as a second car.

@@williambiel I had a GT1 so it didn't have a heads up display, remote start, no 360 camera, low res infotainment screen, not enough ambient lighting and a few other, small, tech items that make driving fun. Other than that it was the gas mileage, road noise and long distance comfort. Unless you are into mods, you basically have the same car as everyone else, due to limited exterior, interior and trim options. I tested eco mode with cruise control on the same trips I would take in the Stinger and the M340 got 40.5mpg. Mixed comfort/sport mode gets me 33mpg. Basically 100 miles more distance per tank full from the faster BMW, that is also more fun to drive... for me. I will admit to slight badge snobbery but only when the Stinger's center console started squeaking a little. It felt like I was in an expensive Kia. It's hard to explain but the BMW just feels more solid and premium for $5k more than the Stinger.
@mrscottmescudi10
@mrscottmescudi10 8 ай бұрын
@@Gerry926 I think the GT2 is the only way to go with the Stinger but I definitely agree the M340i is the king of this segment. Only issue is you lose the hatch, unless you’re trying to spend at least $10k more for the M440i. The Stinger (and G70) is the best RWD biased bang for buck sporty luxury sedan on the market right now. The M340i, CT5-V, Scat Pack, and TLX Type S (FWD biased) either cost more or don’t have all the features the Kia has. If you have the cash and want a more refined vehicle then the Germans will always be better but you’re not going to get a 10yr warranty on them

I have one of these, a 2022 GT2 AWD model. I love it as a Jack of All trades sporty car. It's still one of the fastest sedans in its (new) price range. Only the M340i and Charger Scat Pack are definitively faster. I'm still only about 16K miles on it, so it remains to be seen if it will be plagued with typical Hyundai/Kia problems down the line. I do plan on keeping it long term, so I will be taking advantage of the warranty if needed. My only complaints are: 1) Fuel tank is small (under 16 gallons), which kinda defeats the 'long distance GT cruiser' idea when you need to fill up more frequently than other GTs. 2) Stock exhaust way too quiet. I just got the newest Borla exhaust (made for 2022+ Stingers) and it is so much better. Regarding the rear-biased AWD, the car is apparently in RWD mode under 37mph, if I recall correctly. AWD will kick in if you lose traction before that, though. As for other cars in the class (for potential replacement)--don't forget the Audi S5 sportback!
@williambiel
@williambiel 9 ай бұрын
You have the bit about the AWD backwards. It’s engaged below 60KPH or 37MPH, then disconnects above those speeds because you are much less likely to lose traction at speed. And yeah, I specifically left the A5 Sportback and VW Arteon off the list of replacements because both seem like you’re giving up too much. The A5 Sportback is over 100hp down on a Stinger. Either way, I’d have a hard time moving to a similarly sized car but with a turbo 4 instead of a 6 or 8.
@Maljey
@Maljey 9 ай бұрын
@@williambiel Cool thanks for info on the AWD. For the Audi, I'm actually talking about the S5 sportback, which comes with a turbo V6. If you're shopping new cars, it starts at $57,895 for the base model with no options. New AWD Kia Stinger GT2s start at $55,265. So both vehicles are in the same price range new. You can ignore all of this if you're shopping used though. The Kia is fully loaded with pretty much everything at that price, while the Audi is the stripper model.

Ahh yeah that makes a lot more sense. I think Audis interior design/quality, Quattro, and similar to Stinger horsepower numbers is a winning combination. Now if it can do everything as reliably as the Stingers been for me over the same timeframe and mileage, I’m not sure.

Bias review. I had BMWs, and Audis. The Stinger dear reviewer is the best. Kia service is not. 340 is way more expensive and not reliable. 5 years vs 3 from the german. You can not compare practicality of a hatchback vs regular and not practical trunk.

My guess about the road noise: I suspect that the designers are constrained by certain targets of performance, gas mileage, etc....and these constraints, within a certain target price bracket, require a target weight also. I suspect sound deadening efforts are one of the first things to sacrifice in the effort to meet that weight target. I have eight cars, but I always like to make sure one of them is in this category. A "sporty-ish" daily sedan. My current choice is an Audi RS3, but I think the Stinger gives you a lot of car for its price point, and if I were on a bit tighter budget, it would have been a strong contender.

I have never been so torn about a review video. I agree with a lot of this and found it very informative, but you contradict yourself, even, many times, it seems. I think the whole Stinger ownership experience is kind of a love/hate thing though. The oil dipstick that is nearly impossible to read (due to the colour), the hatch rattle from day one, that that Kia pretends isn't a known issue, and the fact that you can't lift the windshield wiper blade high enough to clean the glass or clear snow (seemingly not an issue for you, as it looks warm there).. Still one of my favourite Singer review videos though, no disrespect meant. Appreciate the brake pad buildup info cuz mine shakes, and I just had them "serviced" to the tune of almost $300, so good to know.. I do love my car though. I can not imagine ever parting with it, in spite of it's short comings. There simply is nothing else like it, for better or worse..

I went from a Forte KOUP R to this car, it's not as sporty as as the KOUP, it's much heavier than the KOUP, the KOUP has much sharper handling. The Stinger is a great car for long trips I drove for 8 hours no problem .It's flashy, its fast , its comfortable, it's a GT car. I'm actually thinking about how I can lower the weight of my Stinger it would be better and to be honest I miss My KOUP R because it was lighter and more agile.

It’s been very hit or miss for me. I can drive my actual racecar for 10 hours and have zero back pain. Same with something like the ND Miata, which you’d think is a small economy sports car and would lack on the comfort side. For whatever reason cars like the Stinger and LC 500 get me right in the lower back.
